wins support = yes time server = yes
When I set:
wins support = yes
time server = yes
my wins service stops working and no computers show up in the network
neighborhood..as soon as I change time server = no, they start to
re-populate.
I have looked around and havent found a definitive answer (apologies if I
overlooked it)...
but if someone could tell me if this is a documented issue, or just me that
woudl be great
Thanks

Thanks Mikko - pieced the 3 links you sent and got new configs...
Well..I have successfully got the PAM files so NT users can login from the
terminal as well as through the samba shares (no local users required),
including using the NT groups to provide share level permissions.
Now here is the next battle:

AW: recycle under samba-3.0.0beta2-1 - supplement
Denis,
I have checked this and verify that this is a bug. You can track the
progress towards fixing this from https://bugzilla.samba.org as bug #210.
Thanks for the feedback.

AW: authentication from win2k DC
I've added it in the way as described in 2.
smbpasswd -r XXX -j TELIT -U mydomainuser
and I got the message successfully joined domain telit (or something similar)
XXX - here this is the same server, which I use with security = server and this is the PDC of the win2k domain
I don't know what kind of account has the machine in the win2k domain - as I said I don't have any direct

IP to NetBIOS resolution
Hello,
Is there *any* way to reliablily determine the NetBIOS name of a computer
when you only know their IP address? I know it is very easy to find the IP
address from the NetBIOS name, but I can't seem to find any way of getting a
NetBIOS name from an IP..

RH9 compile problems AND WinXP netlogon script
Because of the original issue below, it dawned on me to re-compile Samba
after the RH9 upgrade from RH7.1. The make fails, and I was hoping someone
could shed some light on either/both issues. I'm compiling Samba 2.2.8a
with:
./configure --with-smbwrapper --with-pam --with-syslog --with-netatalk
--prefix=/var/samba --with-quotas --with-smbmount --with-shadow
No errors there, but make fails

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part
is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the
BDC.
The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and
the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it
would return a value ACCESS DENIED
I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to
