I can add my W2K machines to the Samba 3.0.5pre1 with no problems, but I

share write access
Hi,
I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition:
## Section - [shareA]
[shareA]
path = /tmp/shareA
writelist = user1
and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when
connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for
everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version
is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

Samba/Cups and printers
Hi All,
I'm trying to get samba to work with a CUPS printer setup.
Unfortuantely I'm falling over at the first hurdle. I've installed
samba 3.0.12 from sources and I've a redhat 9.0 box running CUPS 1.1.71.
I've installed the following smb.conf file:-
[global]
load printers=yes
printings=cups
printcap name=cups
passdb backend = tdsam
[printers]
comment = All Printers

difficulty setting up Samba PDC.. please help... out of ideas
I am trying to test a Samba PDC on our network that currently shares
files as a workgroup (with a different name, of course). Microsoft
states that this can be done, with no issues (so long as the workgroup
and the domain have different names). The permanent home for the shares
is on //receptionist. ( The temporary home for the Samba PDC is on
//haze. ) Once the PDC has been set up

Why do un-groupmap'ed Unix groups show up in Windows?
Typical Linux Distros add all sorts of Unix groups to users when it creates them, like cdrom, floppy, dialout, audio, etc...
Logging in to the domain from Windows with an account that has such membership over on Linux... "ifmember.exe /list" shows all of those memberships. Why exactly? I would expect only the groups I did a
"net groupmap" on would be considered by Samba.

Domain Admin with tdbsam on 3.0.2a
Firstly I apologise for the length of this query but I am hoping that if I
document everything I did someone might respond / be able to help.
My Configuration is Samba 3.0.2a as a PDC on Redhat 8. I cannot for the
life of me get the "Domain Admins" functionality to work
I am hoping that another set of eyes can shed some light on this problem
as I have now spent 41 hrs googling /

How to make "Add permission" for folder in system withntacl support?
Hi!
Let's go back to this topic please! I have to replace the Windows NT 4.0
server with Samba but I still don't know how to do this. I need to allow to
someone (some user group) the right to add files into the folder. They use
this "feature" on current NT server ver often and to this in the following
ways:
1. Rightclick on file you want to add, Copy, then go to server, for

Folder Redirection, Roaming Profiles and Working Offline
Hi,
I have been trying to use samba for a while as a way to have an
identical desktop/startmenu/profile/favourites/etc on multiple PCs.
Samba is setup as the PDC and I can join the domain and login.
The problems started firstly when I wanted to have some sort of caching
and also logon concurrently to different pcs with the same user. The
main problem being that whichever computer I log off

PDC: Strange username translations...
Hi,
i'm running a samba PDC on samba 3.0 and just had to reinstall the server
because of a dead cpu causing corruption.
luckily i had complete backups of the samba-files, so i copied them back to
/etc/samba, /var/lib/samba and /var/cache samba. (tdb-files)
i had one workstation (xp) removed from the domain and wanted to add it
again, but then the station always gives me an error that i

Samba 3.0.0, CUPS support - "Unable to open printcap file cups for read!"
Hello,
I've compiled Samba 3.0.0 with CUPS support. I verified this:
# ldd /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd
*snip*
libcups.so.2 => /usr/lib/libcups.so.2 (0x400dc000)
*snip*
My smb.conf was copied from the HOWTO and the relevant sections look
like:
[global]
*snip*
# print support
load printers = yes
printing = cups
printcap name = cups

Samba, CUPS, or ?
I've been going over a problem and haven't been able to resolve it.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to Samba, but I could use some advice
on this. ?
A few weeks ago I installed a print and fax server for a client. ?I used an
old PII system with 64 MB RAM, SUSE Pro 9.1, configured to use Samba and
HylaFAX. ?There are 8 client workstations running Window 98 SE (most of the

Q about net groupmap examples on samba.org
Considering the following page...
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/guide/small.html
First of, my compliments to John for some great examples to study.
In my mind I see three levels of security:
1) Linux - such as SSH'ing into the Linux server, Linux accounts and groups come into play here
2) Samba PDC - "Domain Admins" "Domain Users" come into play here. Examples

mapping well known groups problem (net groupmap)
Hi
I have samba 3.0.14a (debian/stable) and wonder where the problem is
that running this command:
# net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=512
type=d
gives:
adding entry for group Domain Admins failed!
but (note changed rid)
# net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=1000
type=d
works fine.
Hm, winbind is not working, but I

groupmap trouble
hi,
i'm moving from nt4 to samba ( 3.0.7 on suse 9.2).
I'm able to join the domain, and roaming profiles work.
I used net groupmap to map unix to nt group, this way:
System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1
Domain Guests (S-1-5-21-2839205766-3667556824-2828225164-514) -> nobody
Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1
Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> ntguests
Power Users (S-1-5-32-547)

Problem uploading printer driver in Samba 3.0.14a
Hi,
I recently upgraded my Samba server from 3.0.2a to 3.0.14a running on
Solaris 8.
I made the assumption that all my printer definitions would be retained
including driver information/files as long as the share containing all the
files was still there. Although I still see the actual printers in the
list of printers, it seems that they no longer know what drivers they use.
When I attempt to

Samba not honouring write/admin lists on shares
I'm running debian testing, so samba 3.05 atm. As of a few upgrades ago,
which i think coincided with a library restructure or somewhat samba is no
longer honouring read/write/admin lists on share definitions. Using the
below share as an example, previously all users could access the share with
read access, and those in the ntadmins group had write access. Since the
upgrade users can only

Samba 2.2.7 as PDC causing BSOD on 2K domain logon
Hello,
Have wrestled this one for about a week, now, getting frustrated ;-)
Running samba as PDC for my domain (cf. smb.conf further down)
When logging in on my 2K Pro machine, I first get a "can't find roaming
profile, attempting local profile"-error, but logon using my user's smb
account accepts only the correct password and so the identification part
works well.

On the fly Machine accounts
I have been trying for 2 months to get my samba server to add machine
accounts 'on the fly"
I have added both of these to my smb.conf
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u
add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 102 -s /bin/false
Neither of these seems to do anything.
I have around 250 computers to add, so adding the machine
