wbinfo --ping can't find winbind?
I have compiled 3.5.12 from source on CentOS 5.7. I am using krb5.conf,
smb.conf files that have worked with other 3.5.x installs of Samba (at
least in terms of wbinfo working) but now I am not able to get any data
from winbind. The server is running and the logs don't report any
errors. I had done several 'make uninstall' while compiling/recompiling
with different options. Could

getent showing wrong gids af
The only thing I know is that tdb files are Trivial DataBase files. So it's a database used by samba to persistently store stuff. The file I was refering to accidentally had "winbind" and "id" in its name, so I just deleted it to see what it gives. Seems I made the right choice.
I have no idea how to view these files though. Maybe someone on the list knows?

hi ke,
****************************************************
Since you've compiled with default options, your smb.conf is located in
/usr/local/lib/smb.conf . You should copy your working smb.conf for version
2.2.7 (/etc/samba/smb.conf) to /usr/local/lib.
You should run ./testparm as well.

That's just what i did and the Result is the same!

wbinfo -u is returning 0xc0000022
Hi all,
I have a samba 2.2.8a install runing on a debian woody. The samba is working fine and I am able to map shared drives. I want to use a Primary Domain Controller to authenticate users. I have included the necessary options in smb.conf,
# separate domain and username with '+', like DOMAIN+username
winbind separator = +
# use uids from 10000 to 20000 for domain users
winbind uid

NIC recongized but cant ping
Hello, I am having a weird networking issue. Now I know this is a centos mailinglist, and the system I am having issues with is proxmox ve 3.3 (debian based) but I am sure one of you guys faced this issue. So I am having an issue of no connectivity with my NICs. I have manually configured and I have tried dhcp. The OS sees the NICs loads the drivers, but I cannout ping anything on the lan.

smbcontrol smbd ping also answered by nmbd and winbindd
Hello,
with samba-3.0.x an "smbcontrol smbd ping" was answered by all running
smbd processes. With samba-3.2.x it is now *also* answered by nmbd and
winbindd:

[root@cs00 ~]# for i in `smbcontrol -t 1 winbindd ping | grep PONG | awk
'{ print $4}'` ; do pstree -p | grep $i ; done

Ping to winbindd failed
Hi,
After upgrading to Samba 3.3.10 (Mandriva 2009.0), I'm unable to use wbinfo to

a new Windows 2008 R2 server (previously Windows 2000).

I have no winbind pipe!
I configured samba to run as a file server in an NT domain by hand, and all
was going well except there were some permission problems. I decided to
install and use SWAT to configure samba, but now I cant even ping winbind. I
found that someone else had this problem and solved it by deleting the pipe
at /tmp/.winbindd/pipe , but when I ran an ls ?A command in /tmp I found

AW: Re: AW: samba installation
you'll need to type './smbd -D' instead of 'smbd -D' if you're in the /usr/local/samba directory (same for nmbd -D and smbstatus).
BTW, you need to type 'ps fax | grep smbd' and then 'kill -9 <process ID>', where <process ID> is listed in the 'ps fax | grep smbd' command. Same for nmbd.
Also, make sure the smbd and nmbd daemons are not

winbindd is not responding to a ping

Workaround for users who wish to play the winbind game on squeeze:
# cd /var/run/samba
# ls *pid

There is no winbindd.pid :-( , but a

Ubuntu, ping host by its NetBios name (Samba from sources) !
I have built from sources Samba4 4.4.4 version operation at Ubuntu 14.04
x64.
There are three daemons are started: nmbd, smbd, winbindd.
I excluded 'dns' from /etc/nsswitch.conf, 'host' line and added 'wins' .
When I try ping some of Lan host by NetBios, I get ping: unknown host
xxxxxx.
So, how is to make possible to ping host at Ubuntu 14.04 by NetBios name
which can be
