Hi, I?ve installed fedora core 2 with samba 3.0.X. The pc is a PDC and I?ve configured samba like I could see in this easy manual: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=6684 (before this, I write for each pc : adduser -g "group" -d /dev/null -s /dev/null netbiosname$ > smbpasswd -a -m netbiosname ) My domain admin group is called smbadmins. I only have two kind of

Samba 3 - domain admins (not root)?
I'm trying to work out how I can create domain administrators with Samba 3. I currently have the following in smb.conf domain admin group = @smbadmins domain admin users = root jbb User "root" can do administrator stuff on the domain and any local machines it logs in on. Now I want to make a user a member of the administrators group for the domain, so I've added them

HOWTO for setting up Samba as a PDC
Hello fellow list members, does anyone knows of a good HOWTO (or a book) for setting up Samba as a PDC? I have been dealing around with the Samba HOWTO collection, but to be honest, this is a hard job. There are some errors in it and descriptions are not this good. I even don't know what all the tools are for. I'm really experienced in Linux server stuff, but this one drives me mad.

SAMBA PDC permissions quandry
Hello all: I have a Samba PDC (Samba 2.2.3) on RedHat 7.3 currently serving about 40 to 50 clients with the intent of adding another 60 to 70 in the coming weeks. Everything is working decently well. I do have one problem that I am concerned about though. I have had to make many users Admin users so that a certain application can run. This does not concern me so much except for where data

Samba Guest Account
Wow I'm sending my second cry for help before the first even gets a reply, I'm starting to feel like a moron because I have no idea how I caused this current hitch. Here's the story: I was trying to add an acct called "administrator" to samba which has an enabled, good linux acct. I never did get that acct working for some unknown reason, but what happened as a result of my

Upgrading from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7a concerns
All: Before I actually go and take the plunge on performing this upgrade I would like to find out if there are any caveats I should be aware of. I am using RedHat 7.3 and have been using the pre-installed Samba since I began upgrading our network to Samba about 4 months ago. I plan on using the 2.2.7a rpm from Samba.org and would like to know if any of you have done this and whether or not

smbldap and samba as a PDC
Hi people, I have a problem with samba, openldap and the creation of machine accounts. I don't know if here is a good place to ask but I don't receive help in other places.. I read many guides, howto's, etc. but I can't get around with the solution... I have seen an older message to another list (mail.gna.org) asking for the same problem that I have, it was: -

Moving dovecot/maildir to new host, dovecot.* files
Hello, I've done a fair amount of searching, and couldn't find a definitive answer. I am moving my dovecot/postfix servers and mail in Maildir formats to a new host. When I move the Maildir directories, what should I do with the dovecot.index/cache/log/etc. files? I know I can filter them out, and dovecot will recreate them, but is that the best approach? I am thinking of the following:

Issues with print command group membership
Hi, I have a Samba print share set up, with a "print command" specified that just cats the file to /dev/ulpt0. This share is accessed by the guest Samba account, which I have set to be the 'smbguest' username. I can manually run the print command as root, and the file prints. I can manually run the print command as 'smbguest' (through sudo) and the file prints.

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I am new to Samba, but not to Linux. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I have installed Samba and it appears to be working, at least as far as I have tested it. However, I have hit a snag in my testing. I have searched Google for several hours but I have not found a solution. On a Linux machine (named "annwn") running Fedora Core 6, I have set up a share, using

Do I need Winbind?
With a recent upgrade to Centos 4.6 my system's Samba was also upgraded to 3.0.25b. But now I get a series of auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_administrators(792) and auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_users(758) errors every day. As I understand it winbind allows users to be logged in as Linux users when they log in as Windows users. But since I don't want them to have access to the

Does automatic printer driver download from Win 2k client work?
Hi, I am playing around with automatic printer driver download to Windows 2000 clients from Samba 2.2.8a-1 which doesn't seem to work. Whenever I right-click on the printer and say "connect", it displays: The server on which the printer resides does not have the correct printer driver installed..... Here is my smb.conf file: [Global] workgroup = DEBIAN_FANS load printers = yes

Problems with force (user|group) and XP Professional?
Hi all, In continuing of previous problems, I've noticed some potential problems with force user / force group and Windows XP Professional. I'm not exactly sure why or how, but it appears that XP picks up the fact that it's being connected as the forced user (smbguest), and continues trying to authenticate to other services/shares as that user (smbugest). I'm not sure if this

Windows access problems
Hello, I had the pleasure of installing a new Linux(RH8.0)/Samba(2.2.7a) server (as a PDC) at one of our locations this week. They previously were accessing a shared drive from a Win2k Pro. machine. The migration did not go very smooth. Most things have been resolved, but we have some strange issues that are still causing problems, which I was hoping someone out there would have some insight

How Is Administrator Treated?
I have a couple of Samba 2.2 servers, in different locations, configured as NT Domain Controllers, but I'm experiencing some problems with logging on to the domains as Administrator in order to perform some administration tasks, such as configuring antivirus software on workstations. I won't go into the details here; I think the basic problem is my lack of understanding of how the
