ANNOUNCEMENT: New Project- Baltra (AFP/SMB services compatibility)
(This is a brief announcement of a focused development/refinement of the Netatalk project.) The primary goal of Baltra is to provide a Mac OS X compatible AFP file sharing service with Samba 3.0 compatibility. We are hoping to have an AFP file sharing daemon which can run in parallel with Samba 3.0 to provide seemless file sharing amoungst SMB-based clients (Windows and MacOS-X) as well as

samba + MacOS X
Hi, I have got problem with samba 2.2.5a and Mac OS X 10.2.6. I my network the samba is working great, but when I connected the Mac system, I can see on it every file with size 16 MB. So when I try to burn 50 files 1 kB each, I can't because MacOS is taking size 16 MB of each. When I try to burn the same files from windows sharing, there every file have got size 4 kb, so it is ok.Where should

Netatalk and Samba???
Hi all, Looking for a "best practices" way to share out to both Mac and PC easily. I know Windoze enables the same sharepoint for both the mac and pc shares and there don't seem to be any real "problems" by doing that. However I work in an environment which forces us to utilize Win9x through XP as well as OS 9 through 10.x on the mac side. I need a user friendly way to

Debian + Samba 3.0 + Mac OS X 10.[2-3] -> insufficient privileges
hi all, I've read trough the list and see discussions with similar problems. I've setup a file server and users can connect to it via SMB/CIFS. Windows users just happy. The problem starts with the Mac users. All Mac users are using OS X (versions 10.2,10.3). I'm vetoing several files right now, permission inheriting turned on, I've forced the create mode and directory mode to

RH 9, Samba 2.2.8 and Mac OS X Clients
Hi, we run a RH9 samba 2.2.8 ext3 Server and have some problems with MacOS X Clients: They aren't allowed to write directories containing files to any of our shares. I connect to the sambaserver with smb://servername/sharename and a samba user. This user is allowed to create new folders and he can copy files into this folder. But if he tries to copy the local folder containing files to

Proposed modification to decompose() and plot.decomposed.ts()
The decompose() function truncates the seasonal component unnecessarily. I've modified the function to fix this problem, and also added the original data to the object returned (to enable better plotting). I've also modified the plot.decomposed.ts() function so that it plots the original data in the top panel rather than the reconstructed data. The difference between the two is that the

Add line to plot from stl decomposed time series?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi I would like to add a line to the plot of the data panel of a stl decomposed time series. Example: plot(stl(nottem, "per")) plots a 4(or is t 8?) panel graph. I thought that I might be able to use mfg to plot in the top (left?) panel ("data"), but it is not working. Any help appreciated, Rainer - -- Rainer M. Krug,

Well decomposed mdct
I did composition of butterfly8 and butterfly16 and I found, that these functions are well decomposed - decomposition doesn't lower computional speed. On the other hand the same can be done with butterfly8 - decomposition to butterfly4 (further decomposition is not possible) but there's no reason to do this. I think little improvement can be done by inlining them. Compiler and processor

[LLVMdev] structs get decomposed when shouldn't

decomposed.ts class and method
Dear R People: In the function "decompose", the object has the class of "decomposed.ts". (from package stats) I would like to see the class definition and the method for the plotting. However, when I use isClass("decomposed.ts") I get "FALSE". When I check getMethods("plot") there is no method for plot on decomposed.ts Any suggestions,

[LLVMdev] structs get decomposed when shouldn't
Hi all, I'm new on the list, so I want to say hello for everybody! I'm from Hungary and writing a LLVM backend for Tile64 processor as my master's thesis. It's a big time pressure on me, so the thesis will probably describe a backend only providing an assembly printer, but the development is likely to be continued beyond the thesis. For now, I've run into a very annoying

System is computationally singular and scale of covariates
Dear all, I'm running a self-written numerical optimization routine (hazard model) which includes computing the inverse of the outer product of the score. I have been getting the above error message ("System is computationally singular"), and after some tweaking, I realized that these variables have some high numbers and the problem could be circumvented by scaling them down (i.e.

Create variables with common values for each group
Dear all, sorry, this is for sure really basic, but I searched a lot in the internet, and just couldn't find a solution. The problem is to create new variables from a data frame which contains both individual and group variables, such as mean age for an household. My data frame: df hhid h.age 1 10010020 23 2 10010020 23 3 10010126 42 4 10010126 60 5 10010142

factor analysis (pca): how to get the 'communalities'?
Dear expe-R-ts, I try some test data for a factorAnalysis (resp. pca) in the sense of Prof. Ripley's MASS ? 11.1, p. 330 ff., just to prepare myself for an analysis of my own empirical data using R (instead of SPSS). 1. the data. ## The test data is (from the book of Backhaus et al.: Multivariate ## Analysemethoden. Using apply to generate matrix from rows?
Dear all, I have a simple question which I unfortunately do not seem to be able to solve myself. I have a (NxK) matrix and want to generate a new matrix by multiplying each row with itself such that the new matrix has dimension ((N*K)xK) (or better, generate an array with dimension (K,K,N)). I tried apply, but that did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks! Stephan ## Here is a simple

Using by() and stacking back sub-data frames to one data frame
Dear all, I have a code where I subset a data frame to match entries within levels of an factor (actually, the full script uses three difference factors do do that). I'm very happy with the precision with which I can work with R, but since I loop over factor levels, and the data frame is big, the process is slow. So I've been trying to speed up the process using by(), but I got stuck at

tapply and any
Dear all, A quick question which I somehow cannto figure out: I want to apply the function "any" to subsets of a dataset in order to create a vector with TRUE/FALSE values, depending on whether a subset has the number 5. I.e., y <- matrix(c(1,2,3,3,4,5,5,6,6,7,5,1,1,3,5,NA,5,1,1,3),ncol=2) > y [,1] [,2] [1,] 1 5 [2,] 2 1 [3,] 3 1 [4,] 3 3 [5,]
