Can't Access Samba Shares After Recent Windows Update (msblast)
Hello,
I have been running Samba for years with no problems... I recently became
the victim of the MSBLAST worm and I ran Windows Update to fix the hole in
RPC. That was Tuesday. Yesterday, Thursday, I needed to move some files over
to my Linux server and as I usually do, I went to My Network Places ->
Computers Near Me in W2K and could no longer see my Linux server.
I restarted Samba and

Samba, vfat and new kernels: Anyone able to solve the problem?
This is my third mail in the last three months and still no-one has
answered, while I received some comments from other users about the fact
that the problem is known. So if you have any info on how to fix this,
please post a message :-)
Here is the problem:
I used to share a vfat mounted partition with other collegues through samba
(2.0.7).
Everything worked and still works fine with kernel

C'mon guys. Get some virus protection.
Anyone who is smart enough to be on this list is smart enough to get
some proper virus protection.
However it may be the case that some cannot afford commercial liscenses
and/or are not aware of the free virus checkers that are available.
Since this *is* a list issue, I don't feel that it is off topic to ask
for folks to publish various means for such. I did notice that some

Is this a bug?
In the course of tracking down a problem in Samba v2.0.4a, I set
"debuglevel=3" and noticed something strange in the log file.
While attempting to find the netlogon script, a number of variations on the
name are tried (e.g. for Windows, it's *.COM, *.EXE, *.BAT). Here's
the strangeness: the file NETLOGON"BAT is also looked for. Yes, that's a
quotation mark in place

Recommendations for Lexmark Z11 driver install?
I've "inherited" an old Lexmark Z11 and would like to plug it in to my
CentOS 4 box as a second printer. I shut down, hooked it up to the
parallel port, rebooted, and hwbrowser recognizes it on /dev/lp0, so I
ran through setting it up as a queue with printconf-gui. However,
printing the test page fails because the renderer "lz11.foomatic" is
not found (details below for

Printing problem with CUPS and lp/lpr
I know that printing on Linux is somewhat of an art form, but I have
a fairly simple problem. I used the following command to configure a
networked printer (HP LaserJet 8150):
lpadmin -p name -E -v socket://name -m laserjet.ppd -u allow:all -
u deny:none
This added and enabled the printer, and I can print to it using the
print command from within a GUI application and PostScript

Driver Download with Foomatic-PPDs: Win2K Client says "Device settings cannot be displayed" if PPD's TranslationString longer than 40 chars
Hi, Samba list readers,
I am forwarding these mails from one of the Linuxprinting.org lists to
you (with the $SUBJECT changed by me), because surely some of you must
have been bitten by this too....
This problem is verified on W2K (but not yet for NT/ME/XP/9x).
Cheers,
Kurt

Samba + Cups + Filter Access
Hi,
I'm trying to use Cups + Samba to make a print server for many
purpouses. The main one is to account how many pages where printed by
whom and centralize all printers in one server.
If I configure samba and cups in the RAW mode using windows original
drivers of the printers, everything works fine, but this way I can't use
cups accounting.
So I reinstaled all my printers

help needed - Officejet 7110 printing problem under RH7.2
Hello,
I have RH 7.2 and was trying to make HP Officejet 7110 work with it.
I have upgraded ghostscipt to 7.0.6 installed hpijs1.3.1 and foomatic-2.0.
So in printconf-gui I was able to chose HP OfficeJet 7110 from the printers
list and install hpijs driver.
After sending page to print, printer is displaying message (printing) after
printing page and diode On is blinking.
Setting in printconf-gui

Slow windows -> cups print - CONCLUSION
Hi list,
I've just figured it out.
When we're installing the drivers from adobe there's a part where we must
"Select the Printer Model". By default it uses the "Generic Postscript Printer"
(it has an associated PPD for that). We must get a PPD for our printer
(installed on the linux server) from the www.linuxprinting.org, click the
"Browse" button and

Two annoying problems
Hey all -
Two problems, one mine, one a friend's:
(1) I have a small three-machine network at my office. The
server is running Mandrake 7.2 with either the 2.2.17-21mdk stock
kernel or a custom-compiled 2.4.1 kernel. It's running Samba
2.0.7-18mdk, configured correctly (as everything works when it's
booted to the 2.2.17 kernel). I've moved to the 2.4.1 kernel
because the USB

RE: Shorewall-users Digest, Vol 3, Issue 64
Did I just read completely past this or is this an undocumented feature?
Either way, thanks.
BTW for my first attempt at a Linux firewall, this proved to be a challenge,
but worth it. And most of the problems I''ve had are I/O (idiot operator)
errors. Keep up the good work.

New Users wont authenticate.
Im using Samba 2.2.7a on my RH7.3 box. The 3 users I have had on the system
work flawlessly, but when I add a new user (userconf, adduser, smbpasswd
-a) the system takes the user, it exists in both PSSWD files, but won't
allow logging on from the Win9x box.
I look in /var/log/messages and it doesn't tell me anything, nor do my
etc/samba/log.smbd-nmbd files, is there a particular switch

Samba PDC/Windows BDC
I have a RH 7.2 PDC which uses DHCP for 2 machines on the network. My Win9x
machine as a client/BDC just in case and uses a static IP. If the PDC goes
down. I have to put in or take out the PDC's gateway IP and was wondering if
there was a way to get ONLY the info I need from DHCP to the Win machine. To
attempt to clarify, when the PDC is up, it will assign its gateway IP to
the BDC (since it
