more on ailing printer system
I cranked the debug level to 10. Below is a transcript from the client log file of a client trying to open a Properties dialog for the HP 4500 printer. I am puzzled as to why Samba would be looking for a user with the name of a printer. Is this normal behavior? Anyway, about a minute after the last log entry below, the client showed a dialog "Printer properties cannot be

Samba PDC and Automatic Printer Install
Hello, I am trying to install automatic printer driver download and install. I am running Samba 3, as a PDC, on RedHat 7.3. It seems everything is setup correctly, although I cannot get the rpcclient to 'see' my printer. Please notice these two printers listed below ar the same (lp & HP2300). AW: duplex settings [ was Re: parsing fix for spoolss & s amba-2.2.5]
Hi Jerry, It seems that the "samba-2.2.5-printing.patch" has only fixed the problem for PCL drivers. With PS drivers (Laserjet 4050 PS) are the duplex & tray settings still missing. I'm confused about W2K rpcclient "getdriver" response
Hi, I'm trying to query a W2K PDC for printer driver information in order to install those same drivers on a SAMBA 2.2.7 server. I executed an enumdrivers ms-rpc call to get the list of drivers, but the getdriver command fails for all but a couple of the drivers. I've included a representative instance below: > cmd = getdriver "HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL" > Error

pdfs cause laserjet 4000s to hang - any workaround?
Before I start, I know this isn't a Samba-related issue but it seems to be a widespread enough problem that someone else may have figured out a Samba-oriented workaround, or any other solution for that matter. There seems to be a problem with certain models of HP Laserjet (including, but not limited, to the 4000 series and other models from the same era - it is apparently fixed in the 4100).

Has anyone seen this before?
I'm using samba and cups to allow NT/2k machines to print to an HP LaserJet 4000N printer. The printer works fine except for one in house program. In this one program, all the horizontal lines that should be printed are missing. Originally I thought this was a driver problem, but today, for no apparent reason, it started printing the horizontal lines... but only for the first page of each

Mail Merge data to a pdf file by overlaying the data on the image
Everyone, I am looking for a utility that I can use to do a mail merge of data to a pdf image file. The image file does not have any active fields, but will be just an image file. I would like to overlay names addresses etc. We currently do this with a pcl file by just overlaying the data with pcl print positions. However, in order to get the pcl file from an original pdf file we have to

PCL vs. PCL 6
I am currently using samba to try and replace a windows NT box as the default print server. All is working well except for one printer driver. All drivers were installed from a win2k machine onto the samba print$ share. The problem that I'm having is with a driver for the HP laser jet 4000N printer. The PCL driver works and loads quickly. The PCL 6 driver works, but the properties

Printer driver: different options with samba
Hello everyone, I was wondering about the behaviour of printer drivers, in relation with Samba. The printer is installed, printing on Samba goes via lprng, and Windows printer drivers are installed on the Samba server. On the other hand I have an NT4 server with the same drivers (same version) printing to the same printer over the same protocol (LPD). (BTW, the printer is an HP Laserjet

pcl to pdf
Everyone, I am currently using a vsifax program (pcltotiff) to convert pcl files to tiff files on a SCO Unix box, and then I am using tiff2pdf on a Centos 5.9 box to convert the file to a pdf. There are other commands that deal with multiple page tiff's and pdf's that are part of the process, but the above basic process has worked very well. The only thing I would like to enhance is a

Win98/HP Printer problem. Partially Solved.
I set up a print/fax server here using RH Linux 6.0, and Samba 2.0.3. The printer is an old (but still very reliable) HP Laserjet 4. Printing from the Linux box using lpr works fine. However, whenever someone tries to print from a Windows98 box through SAMBA, there is an extra page printed on the end. This gets really annoying to the users, more so because the extra pages cannot be put back into

access denied on printing from win2k?
Hi, I'm running samba 2.2.1a (RPM install) on RedHat 7.2 I've connected a Canon LBP-8 IV laserprinter to the network via a HP Jetdirect box. I've configured the printer within linux and printing goes fine. Now I'm trying to access the printer via samba from my win2k clients. Now, the problem is: When I'm trying to print to the printer (e.g. a testpage) I get the message

using 'apply' to apply princomp to an array of datasets
Hi everyone, Suppose I have a 3D array of datasets, where say dimension 1 corresponds to cases, dimension 2 to datasets, and dimension 3 to observations within a dataset. As an example, suppose I do the following: > x <- sample(1:20, 48, replace=TRUE) > datasets <- array(x, dim=c(4,3,2)) Here, for each j=1,2,3, I'd like to think of datasets[,j,] as a single data matrix with

Gutenprint - Gimp - Color pcl files
Everyone, I am trying to create a 'color' *.pcl from a pdf file with the use of gimp and the gutenprint gimp plugin. I have done this easily to create a black & white *.pcl file, but have not found a way to create a file that contains the 'color' commands for an HP laser printer. I am running Centos 7.5 with all of the latest updates. gutenprint- 5.2.9-18.el7.x86_64 is the
