getent group fails
Hi,
I've been debugging this for a day now and I am on the edge of my
understanding and could use some help.
I have a smbd 3.5.6 running as a PDC (smb.conf below) with an openldap
backend. If I run `getent passwd` I get all the users (local and
Domain) and computer accounts that I've imported into the ldap tree.
If I run `getent group`, I only see local groups:

Centos7 - SELinux messing with my named.conf
Well, actually it is me cp-ing files and SELinux yelling at me later...
I had named working, but detected that I had a couple clean ups to do in
/etc/named.conf and an include file in /etc/named.
I made the changes, scp to my user id from my notebook, 'su' in my ssh
session and cp the named.conf and other files. Made sure to fix the
file ownership with chown root:named, and that

remote yum update aborted with session closing - won't boot
I was upgrading a system remotely from Centos 6.3 to 6.5 via VNC. Now
the system will not boot. Or at least without bringing up the console
and switching to the older kernel. The last messages I see in
/var/log/messages are:

BDC and ldap set-up problem
Hi,
I could use some confirmation on my approach to configuring my BDC. I
want the user to be able to access shares on the BDC and have their
domain credentials stamped on any files they create. I do not want to
add domain users to the /etc/passwd file. At the moment users can
authenticate onto the domain but once they try and access a share on
the BDC, these XP users get a dialogue box asking

USRMGR Not adding users properly
I'm having problems adding users with usrmgr. I can run the scripts
from my smb.conf fine from command line and do what I need to. But,
when adding users with usrmgr, the login script and path statements are
not identified and I have to go in and edit them manually. Does adding
a user with usrmgr not use the add user script from Samba? Or must the
user environment variables be added

Compiling - WARNING: No OpenGL library found on this system.
I downloaded Wine sources with Git. Now when I cd to wine-git folder and do ./configure, at the end I get a message:
Code:
"configure: WARNING: No OpenGL library found on this system.
OpenGL and Direct3D won't be supported.
configure: Finished. Do 'make depend && make' to compile Wine."
I installed all packages from this script -

Problems compiling PostgreSQL package from FC8 on CentOS 5
Dear CentOS list
we are a small software company making mostly web driven GIS software.
We started to simplify out sysadmin life making RPM packages of most of
the GIS software stack. For a dependency issue we had to abandon the
upstream 8.1 PostgreSQL and install at least a 8.2 version. Taking the
package from Fedora 8 and rebuilding it for x86_64 went smoothly.
Unfortunatly the same is

Bug#706085: logcheck-database: update ssh rules for new "subsystem request for sftp" messages
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.3.15
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
Dear maintainer,
the rule to ignore "subsystem request for sftp" output from sshd doesn't
match the actual output from sshd anymore. The openssh version in wheezy
and above now also includes the username:

nmblookup failures
Hi,
I have a strange problem with a domain member server. The Samba3
domain master/wins server can not lookup the host. Workstations that
are trying to connect to the server appear to be having trouble
finding it (network path not found).

comment tags
I'm trying to write comment writer thing for zinf, because I love the
program, but it doesn't fully support ogg. I've found how to read
comments, but can't figure how to write them. There has been some
discussion about this previously in the archives, but I couldn't find
any specifics, only references to code not posted to the list. The
api documentation page is (painfully)

Word open all DOC files read-only on Samba shares
Hello all,
I just switched my old server to a new machine, upgrading the Samba server
from 3.0.1 to 3.4.5 (-55.fc12).
When Word (Office2003) tries to open a *.DOC file, it takes a very long time
(about 10 seconds) then the file is opened Read-Only... If I try to open a
*.RTF file it opens very fast, and I can write it...
I'm scratching my head for the whole day and what I've

wbinfo recognises my username, smbclient does not
Hello folks.
Brand new 3.5.4 install of samba, on a brand new redhat 5.5 install,
trying to connect to a windows domain and allow AD users access. I used
a series of how-tos to set things up, and modified the smb.conf and
krb5.conf files from an existing (working, 3.2.8) system. I apparently
join the domain ok, and I can authenticate an AD user using wbinfo, but
when I try to use the same user

perhaps there was something wrong with the smb.conf file, which I had
mostly copied over from another machine. So, in desperation, I
commented out every single line in the file, and added back the most
basic configuration options until I could connect to the samba share
with smbclient. Then, to discover what was causing my problem, I added
back the other commented lines one at a time to see

Re: [plug] Advise on RPM vs. Compiling source
Sorry if I missed that, by the way thanks to all who
reply. I already get the points of using Yum and will
uninstall the already installed postfix from the
source using checkinstall as advise from the other
lists and will use Yum instead. Thanks again.
