Ruby on HP-UX B.11.11 (11iv1)
Hello
I am hoping to deploy Puppet 0.25.0 within our Unix infrastructure.
One of our systems runs on HP-UX B.11.11 (HP-UX 11iv1), I am having
trouble getting ruby to run on this platform. The version of ruby that
is available on the HP-UX Software Archive (http://hpux.connect.org.uk/)
is 1.8.4, however puppet generates an error when it starts up.
I have attempted to build 1.8.7 from

Samba and MC/Service Guard
Samba friends,
I work in Wal-Mart's IT department, specifically with Unix Servers of
various flavors, but HP-UX is predominant in our Home Office environment.
I recently built an two node HA cluster on HP 11.11 boxes. I want to be
able to have Samba use the virtual name of my cluster. Currently Samba is
configured to use the hardcoded box name, however if the box happens to go
down, we

Samba Server Name: hamilton
Samba Server OS: HP-UX 11.11
Samba Version: 2.2.3.a
Hi All,
I have the same version of Samba running on many of our HP servers with almost identical smb.conf file and configured the same way. No other Samba server seem to be having any problems except this one (hamilton). When a legitimate user tries to access a Samba share from a Windows client, it asks for his/her

Using working devmode from windows clients on samba server?
Samba 2.2.7a (built from samba RPM's) with LPRng print subsystem.
I've been having troubles with some print drivers which fail to work
properly when uploaded to the samba server whether devmode gets left as
null or a default devmode is used. Some drivers do not leave you in a
position where you can "tickle" the driver to generate a devmode with
page orientation etc before

Samba 3 beta 3 helpers and squid?
I'm trying the new RHEL 3 beta, which comes with samba 3 beta 3, and
squid 2.5.STABLE3. Both samba and squid seem appropriately compiled...
and I'm using the same config files as samba 2.2.8a and squid
2.5.stable3 (which worked), but windows authentication with the helpers
is failing.
I asked the squid list first, and got

Default settings for print drivers
Hi. I've finally got Samba to serve up print drivers for the printers I serve.
However, I'm not able to set the default driver options.
This is what I'm doing (from a Win2k Pro box)
Start->Run
\\(samba server)
open Printers folder
right click printer, Properties
Device Settings tab
Configure e.g. default paper size
Click OK
Reopen Properties->Device Settings, and the old paper

patch: openssh 3.9p1 on hp-ux 10.20
OpenSSH 3.9p1 does not compile on HP-UX 10.20 due to the code which was
added in includes.h to work around HP-UX 11.11's behavior. The following
patch lets it work on HP-UX 10.20. It should also work on HP-UX 11.11,
but I can't test that (no HP-UX 11 boxes here).
It uses code from http://www.faqs.org/faqs/hp/hpux-faq/section-213.html .

[Bug 748] HP-UX 11.11 (aka 11i) needs BROKEN_GETADDRINFO

So far no-one has said anything about IPv6 working or not on HP-UX 11.11, so we
don't know whether or not it works. We do know that (in some cases, anyway)
IPv4 doesn't work because of the getaddrinfo issue.
Based on the currently available information,

Samba 3 with Unix passwd authentication?
We are a primarily Linux company with a NIS backend, but we keep a
couple "bridge boxes" for Windows users (on a Windows PDC) to connect to
their unix accounts and access data.
Under Samba 2.2, this was fairly easy with "encrypt passwords = no"
turned on. But I can't figure out how to make it work with Samba 3.
Does Samba 3 not support a unix passwd backend, or am I

Problem with winbind (is this the right list?)
I'm running a RedHat 8.0 system. Pretty much stock. But I uninstalled
the version of samba, samba-common and samba-client that came with it.
Instead I downloaded a tarball from samba.org. I have just finished
compiling and installing samba 2.2.7 using the --with-pam
--with-smbmount --with-winbind options during configure. I also made
the necessary changes to smb.conf,

our windows APW can't add printer driver to samba domain member
Hi,
I'm part of an organization managing Windows clients with a couple of
GNU/Linux servers.
We're having some trouble configuring our Samba 3 Debian Linux server.
It's just a domain member with authentification done with a Windows AD
Domain Controller, it's supposed to be our new print server.
The printers have already been set up for lprng.
Whenever trying to add a driver to

Usernames with dots
Now that I have winbind working, life is good. However, I've hit upon a
real kick in the pants.
As you can see from my email address, we have a convention here of
usernames being firstname.lastname. So, when I go to change the owner
ship of a file:
$ chown chris.palmer myfile
Linux thinks I mean user chris, group palmer, and says "invalid group"
(there is no palmer group,

64 bit installable samba for HP-UX 11.11
Hello All,
!!!! Happy New Year 2006 !!!!!
Currently we are using TAS as an interop tool to access the UNIX file
systems on to windows platforms. For some performance/licenses issues,
we would like to migrate to SAMBA now.
Our Unix file system is available on HP N-class server running HP-UX
11.11 and our requirement is to install samba on this OS with 64bit
support. I searched on samba site and

OCI8::Cursor (Name Error) in HP-UX 11.11 error
Hi
I have looked at google about this error as well as in ruby on rails
forums, but I can not specifically locate the exact problem and the
solution for it.
Basically, I successfully installed ruby 1.8.4 on HP-UX 11.11 with rails
gem.
But unfortunately whenever I try to create a test application by using
"rails testapp", I am getting the follwing errror:

ssh not resolving host names on HP-UX 11i
Actually it really never was answered, but here's how I fixed (worked
around) it. At first I thought installing patch PHNE_27796 (libnss_dns
DNS backend patch) had fixed it. It didn't. It just flip-flopped the
problem. Prior to installing that patch, ssh would never go to DNS no
matter what was in nsswitch.conf. It appeared to only look in
/etc/hosts. After installing the patch, ssh
