NIS extensions - only 3 of 55 entries present
I have a test setup of samba 4.1.6 under ubuntu 14.04.
When I do the query shown at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC#Check_if_NIS_Extensions_are_installed_in_your_Directory
it shows I have the ypServ30 container installed.
If I change this query to -s sub then I find 3 entries in that subtree

Workstaion trust account
Hi everybody!
I'm having a problem adding a W2K workstaion to the domain samba+ldap. I can
add it by logging with the local administartor then add to domain, but I
would like to do it without doing it manually on every workstation. Have
hundrads of workstations, I tried to add them by using smbldap scripts and I
get an entry for the workstation but it still don't work. Is it even

Problems joining existing domain W2K SP4 and Samba 2.2.8a
Hi all, I seem to be having some weird problems while trying
to add a workstation to an existing domain. Samba 2.2.8a is
running on FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE-p17 and all the clients have
Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 installed.
This particular workstaion was part of the domain until its
hard drive went under. The drive had to be replaced with a
new one, the OS was installed and now when I try to

Help wanted...
Long story short, I have a small LAN, a Red Hat 8.0 fileserver, a Win95
fileserver and 2 workstations, one Win98SE and the other is Red Hat 8.0.
Using Samba as the common file system thread, I can access and play an MP3
file from the Win95 server using the RH workstation and it works fine. I can
access and play an MP3 from Linux or Win95 server using the Windows
workstation and that works

Samba PDC + 2K/XP
Hey,
I am just wondering how you enforce security (such as permissions) on local
workstations while running Samba 2.2.x as a PDC with 2K/XP workstations? As
some of us don't have or want 2000 Server to enforce things like policies
etc... how do you all do it. E.g. If we want 'Administrator' to have access
to all start menu etc... yet standard users to have only programs, no
settings

PC loosing domain membership frequently
Hi,
I'm new to this list.
I tried to google and did a _bit_ of searching in teh archive but didn't
find anything related to my problem.
I use samba 2.2.8a as the PDC on SuSE-linux 8.0. I administrate 7 Rooms
with 160 PC, mainly w2k-sp3 and some older with NT4-sp6.
In two of seven rooms some PC loose their Domain-membership. I can bring
them back into Domain, but they seem to loose it after

SAMBA + LDAP: can login to domain
Hello,
I've tried to integrate samba 3.0.1 and LDAP 2.1.23 using the guide
provided from http://www.hilinski.net/samba/. While the ldap+samba user
authentication seems to work fine, I can't join the Domain from a
Windows 2000 Client. The Domain is found and Name/Password Credentials
are asked. I enter root and password and I get an error:
Login Failure: Unknow username or bad

SAMBA mount problem
I am running into a strange SAMBA problem that I am hoping someone else
can shed some light on.
My server is running CENTOS 4.5 with SAMBA installed and operating
correctly. I can share a volume on the server and connect via a Windows
XP workstaion, and share a volume on the Windows XP workstation and
mount it to the Linux server..no problems.
I have a device (a bill counter) at a client site

XP spontaneous reboot after folder rename on samba share.
I just want to get this information into the mailing list archives.
In my situation I had Windows XP SP2 workstations mapped to a samba
share on a debian etch stable server. My corporate overloards changed
our AV product to Norton. After that, when users would rename a file
or a folder on the samba share the workstaion would suddenly reboot
(and not execute the rename). The samba server was a

I am currently testing LDAP (openldap) combined with nss_ldap,
configured with authconfig.
I would start by testing IPA. Redhat is building out a set of
enterprise management tools which include cobbler and spacewalk; I
would think IPA will eventually be integrated into their mgt tools.
That said, if

mtime not updating on remote directory
Hello,
I'm using rsync as part of a centralised config management for several servers. I'm trying to monitor the mtime of a particular directory and confirm that the remote copies are approximately as new as the the local master. However, mtime on that directory is not being synced. Here's my rsync command:
cd $confdir && rsync -avpzR --checksum -I -e "ssh"

Wierd Configuration
Hi Everyone,
I have a strange network design problem and I suspect that Samba may be
part of the solution. Any suggestions welcome. :-) Here goes:
Two organisations are sharing a single network of 30 Win95/98 clients
with a few XP workstations. The network is owned and managed by a third
organisation and the Internet connection is not too hot. So far so
good :-). Org-1 wants to pay for their own
