smbpasswd does not work for normal users in 1.9.18p4
Hi everyone, It seems to me that smbpasswd does not work for normal users in Samba version 1.9.18p4. If I invoke it as root, then there is no problem with it, but if I invoke it as a normal user, then I get the following: $ smbpasswd -D 99 Old SMB password: New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Connecting to 127.0.0.1 at port 139 write_socket(3,76) write_socket(3,76) wrote 76 Sent session

Problem with smbpasswd
Hi all, I've just set up password encryption using 1.9.18p4. I compiled with NO ALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD option because compilation didn't work (I'm using HP-UX 10.20). Everything seems to be working correctly instead of a 'normal' user trying to change his (samba-) password using smbpasswd (root can change any password). The messages I receive are as follows: Old SMB password:

Anonymous access in windows 2003 sp1
Hi all: =20 As far as I know, win2k3 sp1 disable anonymous access by default. It = will remove user =A1=A7anonymous logon=A1=A8 from pre-windows 2000 = compatible access group. Under such circumstance, smbmount will not success because anonymous = access will be blocked. One way to solve the problem is to re-add = anonymous logon to pre-windows 2000 compatible access group. However, it = seems

connection problem
I have two identical AIX v4.2 machines. One of them was vendor installed, and I installed the OS on the other one. I am successfully running Samba-1.9.18p4 on the vendor installed OS, but I cannot seem to get any Win95 clients to browse on my other machine (Explorer hangs on the Win95 client). I have performed all of the tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt. All of the tests work except for number 7. I can

Session request failed
Hi all, I'm trying to access a NT machine through the Internet. First I used an win95 as a client, but since I couldn't get it to work, I used a Linux machine (kernel 2.0.29) with Samba 1.9.18p7 to get some feedback. I did the following: linux01/usr/local/samba/bin> ./smbclient -L ntserver -I a.b.c.d Added interface ip=<myip> bcast=<broadcast> nmask=<netmask>

alternative for a broken link
Hi all, In the http://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/General page, there is this description: If you need to burn the images with another program (cdrecord on Linux, Nero on Windows, etc.) here is a good reference for burning ISO images: http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/howtoburn.html The referenced site does not exist any more. Does anyone know good alternatives? Thanks, Akemi

Confusion on lpxelinux vs. gpxelinux vs. ipxe vs gpxe.
Hi All, I've been trying to understand how to use pxechn.c32 to chain a local pxelinux menu item to a remote server which has it's own pxelinux hierarchy served via TFTP and HTTP. We have no control over DHCP next-server and filename fields so I wanted to exploit the "prefix" -p option that pxechn.c32 accepts. I spent a long time hitting my head against a brick wall until I

memdisk and iso
Hi, I am trying to boot a server via PXE with following configured for its PXE. LABEL IMP MENU LABEL IMP LINUX memdisk INITRD linuxIso.iso APPEND iso I haven't been able to get this work, probably only because of network speed. PXE server is on RHEL 5.8 and syslinux 5.x While I was booting the server, I ran dstat on PXE server and saw the outgoing network speed was 400-500Bytes. So looks

Same email recieved
Some of my users seem to be receiving the same e-mail over and over. This doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while it seems to get stuck in a loop. Is it possible that dovecot is the culprit here or is this a problem with something else? I'm running Postfix/amavisd/dovecot on Slackware 10.1. Regards, Savage

I recommend someone verify that tar.gz and tar.xz files ( at https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/ ) unpack without errors. (I assume use of compression is in hope of saving download bandwidth) Regards

I'm a new linux user trying to run samba on Linuxppc R5 but smbd doesn't appear to be responding properly. Both nmbd and smbd are configured as daemons and netstat lists netbios-ssn as listening. I can't find anything else that would conflict starting from inetd. Nmbd appears to work as I can list the available servers and the server is seen by the clients but I don't need

Erratic / unstable PDC
Greetings all, I have a problem with my Samba server seeming to hang for 10 seconds every 5 minutes or so. Client machines also become sluggish across the entire network during this period. It does not seem to affect file transfers that are in progress. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Client Disconnects
Hi, I'm running samba 2.2.7 on redhat advanced server with approximately 40 win2k clients and having a serious problem with the clients. Intermittently the clients will lose their connection to the server for approximately 30 seconds. It's like the socket connection is being reset or something. Here's a sample output from a client log file: [2003/04/12 15:13:08, 0]
