WinXP problems accessing Samba shares
I'm having problems accessing Samba shares from my XP Pro machine. Samba
2.2.7 is installed on two Redhat 8.0 machines and configured using SWAT. I
have user level security and encrypted passwords setup. I have a printer
shared on both servers as well as home directories and one restricted access
share. My printers are setup for guest access so all machines will always
be able to print.

NT MD4 password check failed
Hello All,
Well, I've admitted defeat. I've installed Samba 2.2.3a on a Solaris 7
machine and am trying to connect to it from a Win2K SP2 PC. I am using
encrypted passwords. The same user (darren) exists on the pc (called
'plm') and the samba server ('sparky2'). The password for this user is
the same on the PC, and the /etc/shadow and /apps/samba/private/smbpasswd

Problems with logging in ...
Dear Listmembers,
apparently my attachement was not distributed via the list, therefore I add
it once again to this email; plain text following my question. Many thanks
for any suggestion in advance:
I am using a SPARC ULTRA 60 / running SuSE sparc linux 7.3 as server for our
M$-Network. I recently installed samba-2.2.8a from SuSE (compiled src-rpm),
since then I am facing problems when attaching

Using //server/share%username ?
I'm trying to get win9x clients to connect to a Samba 2.0.4b server on
FreeBSD 3.2-STABLE. Some of these machines have Windows logins different
from the Unix user on the server, and the smb.conf manpage suggests that
the "share%username" hack should be used in this case. This seems to work
fine on my old 1.9.18p8 server, but not on any of the newer ones. With
debug level 5 I see

Hi Mike,
I got almost the same problem as you when I was using 2.04b on
HP-UX 10.20 machine. I can not map to \\servername\sharename to my
hpux machine from Win95 successfully when the sharename is different
from the client login name. But it's successful on my WinNT.
I can not resolve this problem but have a

Win2k clients and PDC
Hi,
We have Samba 2.2.6(+2.2.7 security patch) installed on solaris.
Samba is used as PDC for WinNT and Win2K clients. The WinNT machines have
no problems geting into the domain as machine trust accounts exist in
/etc/passwd and smbpasswd file. However, Win2k clients are not able to
join the domain. I did go through the documentation, and hence created
root account in 'smbpasswd'

Please assist in examination my samba log
Hello,
I have 2.2.6.p2 installed as a PDC and there are around ten PCs(Win2k
sp2 and 3) in this domain. Everything works fine and recently I tried
to add two extra PCs in this domain, but Win2k PC generates an error
message saying "The following error occurred attempting to join the
domain "hm": No mapping between account names and security IDs was
done".
As usual

Samba + LDAP problem
Hi:
I'm trying to integrate Samba and LDAP (Samba working as a PDC). While
trying to add a computer to the domain, this is what I get (This is not a
production server, so there is no problem with password revealing):

get_single_attribute: [userWorkstations] = [<does not exist>]

wrong MD4/LM pass for user nobody ? (nobody in smbpasswd)
still trying to solve my domain-problems (from time to time I get
'domain controller cant be found' on a special sambaserver 2.2.3a)
Why does samba complain about wrong password for user nobody ? I
actually found "nobody" in smbpasswd, but I'm not sure if I put it in
there and dont understand why nobody needs to be samba-user.
imho nobody is the unix-account under which

samba-2.2.3a and openldap
dear list,
I have some problems with samba-2.2.3a and openldap-support.
Password changing with smbpasswd -a <username> is working properly.
(Username is an existant user who can either be stored in a regularly
/etc/passwd file or in another nsswitch-compatible service like ldap.
In this case the username is an ldap user.)
Password is changed automatically in the directory server. Pretty

Samba 2.2.5-10, W2K PDC and Winbind - Authentication issues
I've gotten passed the problem I had with joining the domain. However, I
am still having problems with the authentication of domain user accounts
against the samba server.
wbinfo -u shows my users from the domain correctly.
wbinfo -g does the same for my domain groups.
getent passwd shows the domain users as expected.
wbinfo -t shows a good trust.
wbinfo -a allows me to authenticate any

Why is this failing???
Trying to join a SAMBA domain from Win2K SP3. It fails the password
check for 'root' as per the log entries below, then it defaults to
'nobody' which then tries to run 'useradd' to add the windows machine
name, failing, of course.
I tried this both with lanman auth = yes and no... encrypt password =
yes
I can connect to Samba shares just fine from windows using

User auth problem
Hi,
Disregard the message from me last week, I wasn't thinking clearly.
Here is my problem, I've got a user, call him USERNAMEX, signing into a
samba drive that is a mounted NT drive.
I'm mapping all of these users to 1 acct on the samba server (using
smbusers).
This users sign into a Windows NT Domain, and all of the users (except
USERNAMEX) have the domain password as their only

Weird password problems
Hello, all..
I'm running into some weird password problems with Samba 2.0.5a.
Here's what I'm *trying* to do.
I have several Linux & Sun boxes that I'd like to share their
resources with various DOS/Win9x PCs. I don't want to have to
maintain password files on each of the these. Currently, the Unix
passwords are shared via NIS, with a SunOS box as the master.

strange Samba - NT4 domain connectivity problem.
Hi all.
I'm having a strange intermittent problem with Samba 2.2.8a losing
connectivity with our PDC and BDC. We are currently having a problem
with our PDC restarting due to a bug check about 2-3 times a month.
When this happens and the PDC is restarted or anytime it is restarted,
we are not able to map shares on any of our 5 servers using samba 2.2.8a
- the fix is to kill smbd and nmbd

It seems that the authentication is ok and the user accepted and

windows xp suddenly unable to find pdc (samba-2.2.7a)
All,
I am a brand new admin for a network comprised of
FreeBSD 4.8 samba/dhcp/dns servers with identical
kernels and XP/2002/98 machines. Our primary
samba/dhcp server had a hardware failure. I had no
difficulty using backup config files to enable samba
and dhcp on our existing DNS server, because the
software had already been installed for testing
purposes. So, there is now one samba/dns/dhcp
