Installing packages
Hello,
I have upgraded from Mandrake Linux 8.0 to Mandrake 8.1 and try to reinstall
my favourite R... Everything is OK for the base software but I have trouble
to get some packages installed.
Specifically, for some packages, a "collect2" binary seems to be necessary
during the compilation/linking process of the library, and LD complains about
not finding it :

Then I rebooted (because I wanted to boot in runlevel 3 to see

configure can't get readline to work
Dear R-help,
I'm running into some strange problem compiling R 1.6.2 on Mandrake Linux
9.0. When I do
./configure --enable-R-shlib
I get the following in config.log:
===========================
configure:11366: checking for rl_callback_read_char in -lreadline
configure:11397: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -L/usr/local/lib conftest.c

Fortran linking problems
In a box running Mandrake 9 with R 1.6.2 I get problems when trying to
install packages Matrix and Akima.
It seems my gcc compiler and fortran do not talk to each other.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Gelu
The errors are:
* Installing *source* package 'Matrix' ...
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output... a.out
checking whether the C compiler works... yes

Colleagues
The R-team has done a great job of making it easy to upgrade to current
versions of the R-language using the rpms for linux. I have a minor
suggestion for the readme file <Mandrake-Readme.txt> where the mandrake
linux binaries reside <http://www.cran.r-project.org/>.

ReInstalling packages
Hello,
I just have upgraded from Mandrake 8.1 to 8.2 and installed R 1.5.1. I now try
to reinstall all the packages but get the following error (for the multiv
package for instance) :
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lreadline
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [multiv.so] Erreur 1
ERROR: compilation failed for package 'multiv'
The readline library is under /lib on my system and I

Damn itcl to hell.
Hi,
Sorry to bug people with this what must be a very trivial question. I've got
a Mandrake 8.0 installation and have been trying in vain to get CodeWeavers
Wine (preview #3) installed. I've downloaded and installed the 'blessed'
version of itcl from the CodeWeaver's website (itcl-8.3.2-7mdk.i586.rpm) and
am still getting the itcl not found error when I try to run winesetup.

wine-20010510 fails to run?
The system I am using is a clean install of Mandrake 8.0 which
has the gcc version 2.96 installed.
I downloaded the wine-20010510 snapshot and successfully
ran the ./tools/wininstall.
The build seems to have run without problems and if I type:
wine --version
the correct release number is displayed indicating the
install was also succesful.
As per the FAQ I also did the following:

domU''s on SLES 10.0b3 crashing dom0
Hi all,
I installed SLES 10.0b3 with XEN on some test-systems and created a SLES
10.0b3-image for use with domU''s.
The installation and booting of this domU was no problem, but on some
systems the host dom0 restarts if I generate some IP-traffic from the guest.
This happens on an old AMD Athlon 1,3GHz, an old Intel P3 and an Intel
desktop with P4 HT/VT/EM64T but not on an Intel
