Help with Samba 2.2.X on Solaris 2.8
Samba Folks, I have a major problem with Samba 2.2.8 randomly dropping network connections on our Solaris 2.8 SUN systems and could use some help. On a random basis Samba will drop network connections and not allow them to re-established until the PC system is rebooted. The disconnect error is typically a broken pipe error: 2003/02/21 09:42:03, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(499)

strange Samba - NT4 domain connectivity problem.
Hi all. I'm having a strange intermittent problem with Samba 2.2.8a losing connectivity with our PDC and BDC. We are currently having a problem with our PDC restarting due to a bug check about 2-3 times a month. When this happens and the PDC is restarted or anytime it is restarted, we are not able to map shares on any of our 5 servers using samba 2.2.8a - the fix is to kill smbd and nmbd

Errors integrating with Windows Domain controller...
We have an environment where Linux workstations use Windows domain controllers to authenticate everything, from SMB access from Windows workstations, to graphical logins, and ssh. We've been seeing some intermitten failures with the authentication for SMB access. Here are some samples of the error messages we're getting. Dos application hanging when being used by 3 or more people
We have a department using a DOS based application (written in C) within an MS window. By this I mean that the application is text based, and has no mouse capabilities at all. The application object code and its database all reside in a departmental share on our Samba instance on a Solaris box. We have about 30 people using the samba shares on this box at any time. The users have sent me an

Problem authenticating against a W2K server
Hi there. I'm having a problem letting a Samba server (MYSAMBA) authenticate users (using "security = domain" and a "password server = MYPDC") against a Windows 2000 PDC (MYPDC). The Windows 2000 machine seems (I'm not 100% sure about this) to be configured to restrict anonymous and it seems to me that this is where the problem lies but don't know what to do. I

NT account locking out
Hi I have Win2k servers connecting to the samba server by mapping a windows user to unix user. We never had any problems with thsi connectivity but for past 2 weeks we have an erratic problem which causes the windows account to lock thus making samba unfunctional. When I get the windows account unlocked then samba starts functioning properly again. I do not have a scenario to reproduce the

unable to open passdb database.
I found many questions but no answers on the web. I described my needs in earlier post, but now switched from security = domain to security = server, and designated the AD domain server as the password server. It works as desired, i.e. I don't need smbpasswd any more, and if windows users change their passwords by ctrl-alt-del, they can later use the new password without coming to admins.

WinXP problems accessing Samba shares
I'm having problems accessing Samba shares from my XP Pro machine. Samba 2.2.7 is installed on two Redhat 8.0 machines and configured using SWAT. I have user level security and encrypted passwords setup. I have a printer shared on both servers as well as home directories and one restricted access share. My printers are setup for guest access so all machines will always be able to print.

troubles with PDC
Hello everybody, I hope somebody can tell me what is going wrong and how it can be fixed. To be honest: I have walked through the test document, and smbd and nmbd seem to work quite properly. However this is the case: Recently one of our smb-servers was suffering from a very bad HD. So I took another and installed linux on it (Slackware 8.1) and took most of the config files (among which

winbind wbinfo -t secret is bad
Quick run down of my setup: NT 4.0 PDC, Samba RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.5-10 on it.(Also used RedHat 7.2 with 2.2.6 final as well) with the exact same results. When I run wbinfo -t, I get Secret is bad 0xc000018b. I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and can't get it working correctly. If I run wbinfo -u, all of the users appears in the list, as well when I run wbinfo

Samba 3.0.7, print banner pages
Greetings, I recently upgraded my print server from Samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.7 and all is working well except banner pages for the print jobs. I am getting them now an I don't want them. This is under Sun Solaris 9 using the stock LP spooler. In my smb.conf I have had set (for years now) print commands of like the following: print command = lp -dnodis2 -c -o nobanner -s %s; rm %s The

WinXP, samba 2.2.7, and intermittent "unable to open passdb"
Greetings. We are seeing an intermittent problem with Samba on our RedHat 8.0 file server (also seen with RedHat 7.3 prior to the upgrade to 8.0). Normally, a Windows XP machine can connect to the file server's shares and work on them. However, sometimes after being up for a while, connections from the XP machine to the file server no longer work. In particular, on the XP side, the following
