Can't create machine accounts or join domain (automatically or manually with scripts or pdbedit)
Hello, I've seen other folks posting with this problem, but I think my issue is a bit different (thus the super long subject). The environment is Solaris 9 09/05, running Samba 3.0.22/Sun DS 5.2/idealx scripts 0.9.1, but I can translate openldap/linux/samba-ese if you think of a solution that would apply in that environment. Anyway - my core problem is an inability to add machine accounts

3.6.15/fix for BUG 9817 breaks our cross-domain support
Hi, We discovered that the the patch for BUG 9817 (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9817) which was first included into Samba 3.6.15 breaks our cross-domain setup: AD DC Domain "AD" [WinServer 2003 R2] AD DC Domain "D" [WinServer 2008 R2] client_1 (domain member in AD, WinServer 2003 R2) samba_srv (domain member in D,

NT4 Domain Member Server Access Denied v3.07
I want to set up a Samba Server (Cactus_3) as member server in our NT4 domain (PDC is Cactus_1, BDC is Cactus_2). We have about 50 client workstations most of which are WinXP but we have a few Win2K and Win98 machines. Shortly we will migrate off the NT4 servers but in the meantime we wish to test some real time scenarios. It is for this reason that I want SSO so the tests are transparant

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PD C?
"net rpc vampire ..." does NOT set the SAM or SECURITY hives of the registry to "readable", which is what renders the PDC non-operable. "net rpc vampire ..." is safe to use as many times as it takes to get comfortable with the process. I did it my self when I was converting our "labs" NT4 domain to Samba. --

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PDC?
Reading through the Samba3 -By Example guide and I'm confused with the statement section 9.2 http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2594565 about accessing the SAM and Security sections of the registry will render the PDC non operable. Its clear from the text if you go and edit the registry(regedit etc..) so you can read the entries your PDC will not work.

NT4 migration errors
Hi I've setup samba 3.0.14 with the latest idealx scripts on FC3. Now I have a test lab to migrate from NT4 box which different than the standalone PDC I have running. Here's the order I used and my ldap and samba configs are clean as far as I can tell since I do get a partial migration. When using 'net rpc vampire -S nt4 -W DOMAIN' it populates the groups from NT4 and shows the

Vampire Migrate NT4 to Samba-LDAP PDC. Access error
Hi, I'm a informatics engineering student and I am working on a factory placement which consists of migrating an NT4 based network upon Red Hat Linux AS 3. I took the manual from www.samba.org <http://www.samba.org/> and adapted the variables as suitable for my case. The only one moment where I cannot carry on anymore is when I am supposed to use net rpc vampire on the PDC. Here is

Seek clarification on use of 'net rpc join -U' to join a NT4 domain
Dear Friends: I am trying to join a Suse 9.1 Server running Samba 3.07 to an NT4 Domain. One part I am confused about is the command "net rpc join -U" ... is the username to be used with this command the name of an administrator on the NT4 PDC? Does that administrator need to be an user on the Samba Server and a member of the "root" group? I successfully join using

Samba and TCP printing ports
I've read in the documentation that Samba does not use ports like Win2k. So how does Samba know where to find a network printer if it has it's own IP address (stand-alone printer)? I have created a printer in my /etc/printcap file: HP4000:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/hp4000:\ :mx#0: :sh:\ :rm:192.168.2.13:rp=raw: :rp=:\ added this to my smb.conf [printers] comment = All Printers printable =
