Issues with demoting a DC (contd): drs kcc doesn't help?
After force-demoting a DC yesterday, I've had one more issue with 3rd DC in our forest. Before the demotion, there were 3 DCs, say, a0, a1 and b (a* were on site A and b were on site B). I force-demoted a0 from a1. And after that, replication on b weren't working. samba-tool drs showrepl on b did show list of *inbound* connections from a0 (which does not exist anymore), with a lot of

smbmount codepage problem
Hello-- A quick question, to see if anyone could help me out. I have a home network with two nodes, my laptop and my girlfriend's. I have Debian sarge with kernel 2.6.6 on my laptop while on my girlfriend's machine is the Latin American Spanish version of Windows ME. I am trying to use smbmount to allow me to mount her machine's Windows file shares. I have set up the shares on her

Samba 2.0.7pre4
Dear Sirs: I wish to report my experience with the package. I have compiled and used Samba 2.0.7pre 2, pre3, and pre4. I have not had any trouble connecting to Samba's shares (from an NT client), but I would like to report a problem with SMBFS and SMBMOUNT. NT4, SP5 shares mounted into the filespace of the Linux box can disconnect over time with two possible outcomes. The activity is

WIN2K authenticates against 2.0.6!!!
Since I didn't receive any replies to my questions or observations, we were forced to try new things... We upgraded NT4SP5 (which does everything we want it to do) to Windows 2000 Pro and magically it now authenticates against Samba 2.0.6 on AIX 4.3.2. We have some problems however...the logon script does not run and the "LogonServer" environment variable is no longer set to the

Problems with Samba as PDC
I've got an ugly problem... hope somebody can help: I upgraded from Samba 2.2.5a to 2.2.7a yesterday (SuSE RPM update). Since then, all connected Windows computers show strange behaviour: Depending on the computer, only a few selected users can log in - but the users able to log in change from computer to computer. None of them have any local accounts on the machines in question, just the

problem compiling 2.0.6 --with-smbmount
I have built, installed, and run 2.0.6 successfully without smbmount, but want to do it with this time. I know that it's not part of samba, but am hoping someone can tell me if I'm making a simple mistake. It's possible that it's not even samba related. I'm a novice at this and have not gotten very good at figuring out what's wrong when something doesn't build

Incorrect/incomplete group information when authenticating against AD
Summary: a Samba server authenticating against AD can only retrieve some, not all, groups that users belong to. I have a Linux server "oldsys" (all version info given below) making files available via Samba and authenticating against Windows AD. This works without problems. We want to migrate the data, and thus the Samba configuration, to a new server "newsys". This has been

Authenticating against AD (without adding to domain)
Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to auth users against AD and how? I don't want to register the station to the domain, just auth the users against it. We have a local mediawiki installation that auths users against the AD without having any admin access to it. Any ideas? Lucian -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! Nux! www.nux.ro

authenticating users against AD
I checked the docs I could find, and this list's archives, but I wasn't able to find an answer to this question. I want to join Linux workstations to my AD domain and have users logging on be authenticated against the AD domain as opposed to NIS. I don't see that Samba 3.0 will do this. Is that correct? If Samba 3.0 will enable Linux users to authenticate against AD, how does a

Authenticating other services against AD - PAM and Postgres - dedicated user
Hi! I've got a samba4 pdc, fileserver and whatnot running now for a few months, a number of users logs in there daily, everyone seems quite happy about it going. I've migrated my environment from samba3 NTdomain, where I had LDAP backend for users and I used that to authenticate other services against it: like pam on other servers and postgres DBs. I have succesully managed to do this as

Authenticating Linux Against AD with Winbind
I'm trying to set up a Linux box to authenticate users against AD (Win 2003) using winbind by following the Official Samba-3 HOWTO (http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba3-HOWTO/winbind.html). We're running Redhat AS 3 and Samba 3.0.9. Our smb.conf look like this: [global] winbind separator = + idmap uid = 10000-20000 idmap gid = 10000-20000 winbind enum users = yes winbind enum groups

Internal Error: Signal 11 in winbindd log when authenticating against AD
After upgrading to freeradius 2.2.9 and winbindd 4.1.6 on Ubuntu 14:03 I began receiving the below messages in the winbindd log. These messages did not happen when testing under a low volume of requests, but now in production I am receiving approximately 100 of these messages per hour. The same error message occurs on 3 servers sharing the same configuration. After the message is posted to the
