Directory perms not visible from Properties|Security on clients
Samba 3.0.7, XP Pro SP1 clients When I view the "Properties|Security" tab on a folder from my XP SP1 clients, the checkboxes indicating the various permission settings are all empty. The share is functioning fine otherwise, permissions are OK when inspected from the Unix side. Does anyone know a work around (or fix!)? This came up back in 2003, without resolution:

Easy to reproduce Win2K bug
Try this with Samba 2.2.x with a Win2K box ... net use x: \\sambaserver\sharepoint x: mkdir test cd test mkdir test The second "mkdir test" will fail with the following error ... "A subdirectory or file test already exists." Any attempt to make the directory, even with an explicit path, as in ... mkdir test\test mkdir x:\test\test ... results in the same error. It

Samba 3.0 question, DOMAIN vs. SERVER method? Help!
Hello all! We are attempting to get Samba-3.0.10 working on a new Solaris 8 machine in preparation for upgrading an existing 2.2.8 installation (both use the SMCsamba packages from SunFreeware.com). We copied over the smb.conf file and the usermap from the Samba-2 installation, and seeing some weird symptoms when Windows users try to connect to the new machine. We ran "net join" to

MS DOS client : solution
Hello, I finally found a solution to allow basic MS DOS client 3.0 redirector to work with Samba. I'm sure you'll find it ugly, but it works. Under CORE protocol, the $"#&^ MS client sends unencrypted passwords to the samba server (maybe there is no support of encryption in CORE, I don't know). So as my clients are either W95, WfW, NT or DOS machines, I simply remove the

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 (OK, my first message got mangled because of the attachments, so I'm reposting) I've got a samba 3 box that's part of an AD domain. It works correctly for most users; but there was a problem where certain users couldn't connect. We'd get a log message that looks like this: Username SAMPLE.COM\pcuser is invalid on this system

samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset - NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
OK, I've traced this a little further on now. I think I have followed the trail via the following items that call or refer to each other in turn: - python samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset - source3/smbd/pysmbd.c: SMB_VFS_FSET_NT_ACL( fsp, security_info_sent, sd); - source3/include/vfs_macros.h:#define SMB_VFS_FSET_NT_ACL smb_vfs_call_fset_nt_acl - source3/smbd/vfs.c:NTSTATUS

FW: authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fail s (URGENT)
Hi folks, Can anyone shed light on this issue? I haven't heard from you guys. Is there anything else I could do to expedite resolution of this issue? I've read the WHATSNEW.txt and reviewed the release notes. I am not sure if I've fully grasped what needs to be done. Can someone point me in the right direction? ~Doug -----Original Message----- From: Doug Sampson

IE9 download manager and Samba share
Hello, I have set up a Windows 2008 R2 domain controller and Samba file server (2:3.5.8) acting as a domain member (security = ads). Kerberos is working fine, access to user's directory on Samba server and saving files to mapped drive is OK. But when I try to download something using IE9, the download manager cannot save any file to the network share. Does not matter if the user belongs

Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem. Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date) Samba Logfile for Machine account is below. Any ideas? Newbie configuration Q
Hi, I need a v simple samba setup in order to share files between a Windows AD network (W2003 server) and a SCO Unix box. Samba is installed, albeit the oldish version which comes on the SCO CD - v2.2 IIRC. A user (any user) can login to unix, run a program which generates a file in the /shared folder. This needs to be accessible to a program which runs in windows from anyone's PC (or

samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset - NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
Hi, After making progress with my scripts for software installation (thanks, Rowland!) I am on a bit of a mission to get things working again. I found that permissions on my sysvol share were somehow incorrect (group ownership was root, etc.) so I ran 'samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset'.. however this now fails with the following error.
