nmbd woes (still)
Ok I've fed this problem with about five hours of my time to post to a list about it. nmbd does not appear to be doing what it should. Why I'm not certain. The unix host (running samba) is not appearing in on the windows browse list (i.e. it's not showing up in the network neighbourhood). when I run nmbd with -d2 I get the following: Netbios nameserver version 2.2.8 started.

Unwanted browselists
Is there a way to prevent browselists from machines other than those of my choosing to show up in the browselists/network neighbourhood? I don't want win95 clients that offer shares themselves to show up in the network neighbourhood. Michel. -- Michel van der Laan - michel@nijenrode.nl http://www.nijenrode.nl/~michel

Cannot see the samba server in Network Neighbourhood
Hi I am a newbie to samba after taking over from a previous administrator. I have upgraded to the version that ships with SuSE linux 8.0 and copied over the old smb.config and smbpasswd files. I can see the shares from a remote SWAT connection and also using the interactive method via a DOS window, but cannot get the shares to be seen via Network Neighbourhood. I am thinking that this may be

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi, I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an 'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network Neighbourhood. I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway). On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8) as the browse

Remote browse sync, wins, problems...
Hi, I have a network with three different sites, each with their own workgroup, each on their own subnet, connected by a VPN. Each site has a master samba server, acting as a domain master and wins server. Each site has a mixture of Windows (mostly 2000 professional) and linux workstations on each workgroup. I am trying to get all workgroups and all machines viewable in 'network

SAMBA and Subnet Browsing
Hi, I have 3 Samba servers run Samba 2.0.7 on RH6.2, with Kernel 2.2.16-3. Everything seems to be OK, except that my Win9x clients cannot see other Win9x clients across the subnets. Each server has 2 n/w cards installed, with IP Forwading enabled etc. If the user knows the machine name, he can get access to the shared resources across all 3 subnets, but using the n/w neighbourhood browser, shows

Problems accessing shares on Samba from Win2000

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all, I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer icon I get the message "\\Linuxbox is not accessible, The network path was not found." The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98

Name resolution problem, looking for advice on best solution
I have a Redhat 7.2 server for DNS, Web, File Sharing via Samba, for my SOHO network of 6 Win2K workstations. I have a workgroup, not a domain. The server is on a static IP and the workstations are DHCP assigned the Dlink gateway, which also tells them the DNS IP. I am having a problem where some of the workstations can see some of the others in Network Neighbourhood, but some can't. SMB

Mounting a workgroup or machine
Hi there, Is it possible to allocate a portion of your file system to act like Network Neighbourhood on Windows? For example, I'd like to mount my work group on /mnt/samba so that I can access files by going to /mnt/samba/<host>/<share>/foo/bar.txt Right now I'm accomplishing this with a python script that gets a list of hosts on the workgroup and a list of shares per host

cross-subnet browsing
I have 2 subnets. Subnet 1 has an NT WINS server. Subnet 2 has a Samba server acting as domain master browser and local master browser for a workgroup. If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 1 (call it PC_A), I can see all the hosts in the workgroup on both subnets. If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 2 (call it PC_B), I cannot see PC_A. I

Network Neighbourhood samba 4
When you say, there is not network neighbourhood in samba 4 you mean that: 1: all the workstations show in the network neighbourhood except the domain controller. 2: There is absolutly nothing in the network neighbourhod, no workstations nor DC.

SMB-server from Win2k -> Red Hat Linux 7.2 - Samba 2.2.1a seen in Network Neighbourhood but not browsable
Hi everyone, I am new to the list and new to Linux as well as to Samba. I've read quite a few howtos, man-pages and other docs on samba now. I configured my own SMB-server with smbd and nmbd. Of course I generated a smb.conf file and my server is accessible and running on the Linux mashine. I can connect with smbclient to the Linux-mashine and to the win2k-mashine (hostname and service

Problems connecting to Samba through windows
I just started using Linux a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to setup samba. I have a couple of text books I have been following which have helped me be able to run the smbclient from Linux to view both the shares on my Linux and xp machine. The problem is that I can not access the Linux files from my xp machine. I can ping the machine without a problem and can also view the machine

AW: Machines not disappearing from browse list
I've exactly the same problem. My config looks similar to yours: 1 samba as wins server (wins support=yes" on one segment, 1 samba as "wins server client" (wins server = xxx). The "wins server client" never discards machines from segment 1. I looked at the browse.dat and the wins.dat on the server on segment 1. There are no entries of the shutdowned maschines. Only in

Share problem !
Hello List, I have a small problem in configuring SAMBA on my Linux Red Hat 6.2 box. If user xyz with username xyz tries to access samba share from windows NT box, everything works fine except one thing. In Network Neighbourhood three shares are visible instead of two . Shares defined in smb.conf are global, homes and printer. In network neighbourhood it shows three directories: xyz
