weird winbind scenario
Hi, I have a box running Mandrake 8.2 and samba 2.2.4 on an NT domain. smbpasswd -j says it joins the domain ok, I use the included sys-auth-windbind file for pam, and the winbind entries are in nsswitch.conf. Everything appears to be running, but when I try wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain users". getent passwd only return the linux accounts. Yet wbinfo -t returns

net rpc vampire is sucking my brain!
Trying to migrate NT4 to samba 3.0.0 or 3.0.1pre3 with an ldap backend. I add a backup server account to the domain and joined. Getting the SID and the ldap init seem to work, and I start windbind. When I run net rpc vampire all I get is a ton of "Could not create posix account info for " errors. Then ofcourse pdbedit -L returns smbldap_search_suffix: Problem during the LDAP search:

THIRD POST: Samba Authentication Issue
Hi Samba List, We are using samba since many years in our Solaris environment. I have got a question concerning the authentication: We are building up new branch offices. Every branch office is connected thru a vpn link to our main company. The people in the branch offices have got a samba file server to work with. The authetication is realised with Microsoft Active Directory, which is installed

"pretend" option in rsync?
Is there a "pretend" option in rsync that will just show the transfers it is going to do without actually doing any transfers? Or even better, after it shows the transfers it is about to do to prompt if user would like to proceed. Sort of like "emerge --pretend" and "emerge --ask" in Gentoo package management. Thanks, Roumen. -- View this message in context:

[PATCH] conn: Pretend to be a serial terminal, so sgabios doesn't hang.
This tedious workaround avoids a 0.26 second pause when using sgabios (the Serial Graphics Adapter). It's basically a workaround for buggy code in sgabios, but much easier than fixing the assembler. --- src/conn-socket.c | 32 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++- 1 file changed, 31 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/src/conn-socket.c b/src/conn-socket.c index 5b6b80e..14da260 100644 ---

Unix Realname with samba 2.2.4
Hi there, is it possible to acitivate Unix Realname with samba 2.2.4 ? I've tried it, but samba will ignore the unknown parameter. Does there exist an alternative parameter like unix realname under samba 2.2.4 ??? -- Peter Forst <mail: pforst@firemail.de>

Regenerate MACHINE.SID
I goofed adding some machines to my domain so now I have to do it all over. I removed the secrets.tdb and MACHINE.SID files, but when I join the domain again, the MACHINE.SID is not regenerated. How do I force them to be correctly regenerated on 2.2.4? Here's what I'm doing: 1. kill smb and winbind 2. delete secrets.tdb and MACHINE.SID 3. remove from NT4 PDC 4. add machine to NT4 PDC 5.

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering & UserIDs . For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access. Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication. I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways. However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs, then use User authentication

CIFS Session transfer
Hi All, I would like to know if this is possible and if possible what is the complexity. Consider a CIFS client, SAMBA Server1 and Samba Server2. Say a session is established between a CIFS client and SAMBA server1. Is it possible for the SAMBA server1 to transfer/redirect/reestablish the connection to SAMBA server2 without the CIFS client knowing about this? The session between the CIFS

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share, put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without going through any

PAM, PDC and Winbind
Hello all, I currently have the following setup working nicely: A Samba PDC, with LDAP-SAM, syncs passwords between LDAP and Samba (and /etc/shadow when appropriate) correctly - either when changing them through Samba (samba has PAM support enabled and working) or through normal Unix mechanisms (/usr/bin/passwd, using pam_smbpass, pam_ldap, etc.). Several other Linux machines, running Samba,
