routing thru shorewall
Hi, On my network, I use real IP numbers for all of my hosts. They all get nat''d at the gateway. I use real IPs because sometimes someone needs to connect directly to a host behind the firewall. With my old firewall, I had a trusted-hosts file with trusted host IP numbers in it. My hosts talking to external trusted hosts would not have their IPs nat''d instead they were

deleting files problem
Hi, I've got what I think is a pretty weird problem. I'm using redhat 8.0 and their latest samba rpm 2.2.7. I have a directory /virtuals/SAMARCAN/asterion_caen/hd4008/tiffout with about 600 tiff files in it. When I go this directory and try and delete them, it deletes about 100 of them or so, but while this is going on, it says:

samba and NIS?
Hi, I have a few questions. My goal is to run NIS and samba so I have a central point of passwd control and just one place to change passwords. I will eventually have 5 samba servers so this is quite important to me as I don't want to have to change passwords and setup passwords on 5 servers when changing or adding new users. Can this be done? So that if a user changes his password for

Samba PDC windoze BDC
Hi, During my migration to samba, I had kind of assumed that I could run Samba as a PDC and my windoze server as a BDC to ease the migration path a little and still keep the same domain. I was going to use samba 2.2.5 on the PDC and NT4 sp6 on the BDC. After reading quite a bit, it looks as though this doesn't work? Is there a way to make it work? Does Samba 3 handle this? Is Samba 3

virt-sysprep cron-spool, no at jobs
sysprep/sysprep_operation_cron_spool.ml claims to remove at jobs, but those are not stored in /var/spool/cron/ on my system. Is the description wrong, or do other distros store the spool data in the cron dir? For me it looks like this (000110156d537 is currently executed): root at probook:~ # find /var/spool/at* -ls 67540 1 drwx------ 2 at at 1024 Sep 19 18:55

Print spool icon in systray reports jobs pending when none are pending
I have an issue I'd like to resolve with a client and the print spool icon in the systray... If the user (on w2k) mouses over the print spool icon, it tells them "xxx jobs in queue" or some such, and the xxx increments once for each new print job they send. Also, the print spool icon never disappears from the systray until a reboot, or re-login. Once a job is sent to one of the

[PATCH] sysprep: handle at jobs in cron-spool operation
cron-spool claims to remove at jobs, but it has no code to actually do that. Add patterns to remove files in known at spool locations. FIXED - Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spool er
OK, it's working now. I waited until the production lines were undergoing a shift change and brought down all of Samba, then restarted it. Printing now works just fine. I still don't know what caused the problem, I never saw any error messages in the [sn]mbd or client logs, even with the log level turned turned up to 2. Thanks very much for the time and trouble you took to think about

share /var/spool/cups-pdf/SPOOL/?
Hi, is there a way to set multiple selinux attributes to files/directories? I would like to share /var/spool/cups-pdf/SPOOL/, which has 'system_u:object_r:print_spool_t:s0' and would also need 'system_u:object_r:samba_share_t:s0'. The point is that there will be files accumulating that only need to be deleted, and there might be files users may actually want access to. Sharing

Hello Family, (smd.conf file attached) Having had great success with 2.2.2 and my Linux box and Windows-2000 machines I switched to CUPS and now can't print again having made some slight edits in my smb.conf file (attached) for the change to CUPS. print spool file not created
Gentoo Linux, recently updated (emerge --sync ; emerge -u --deep world). kernel 2.4.26. Samba 3.0.10. lprng 3.8.27. When I print a test page from WinXP-Home, it appears to accept it. However, it doesn't create a spool file and then when samba runs my lpr command, it gets an error (33). I've changed the print command to lpr -P%p %s in order to have the spool file, but it isn't

Control what messages go into /var/spool/mail/root
Hi, I found some info messages below in /var/spool/mail/root. To reduce the size of that file, I'm wondering if there's a way to prevent those unimportant messages from entering /var/spool/mail/root. Callweaver/Asterisk 'outgoing' spool
c/c'd to the Asterisk list as this is probably relevant to Asterisk as well. My detailed study of the operation of the 'outgoing' directory reveals that TXFax() does not delete an expired fax batch file (In the 'outgoing' directory) until after the end of the dial plan execution. Is there a way to get it to delete any expired fax batch file before the end of the dial plan

printer spool directory
HI! I've noticed that every time I install Samba 4, I need to create a /usr/local/samba/var/spool directory and give it 777 permissions. If I don't do that, I can't share the printers with my windoze machines. Is this by design? Should this be put into the how-to? Thanks -jimc
