pwdump on german NT
Hi, I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german version of NT4SP3. I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group 'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional parameter? Unfortunately, I have no access to a C-Compiler on an NT-station, so

machine group and pwdump.exe
Hi, 1. I want to migrate NT to Samba 3 domain without needing to rejoin all machine (using same domain name and SID). just curious, machine account should belong to what group sid? does it matter if belong to any value? 2. I just examine output of pwdump, some of member domain or even NT BDC is has "*****" in password field which means this account was disabled. I've verified that

pwdump for ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) needed!
Hi, We are migrating from Unix Server to Linux, so the ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) will be replaced by Samba. The pwdump for Nt is pretty for Windows NT, but I don't know if there is an Unix dump tool to transfer the ASU SAM database to the Samba's smbpasswd file. Any help is welcomed! Thanks in advance, Jianliang Lu Tiesse S.P.A. Via Jervis, 60 10015 Ivrea (TO) Italy Email:

Converting from NT DC to Samba DC?
Hi all, I am in the process of setting up a test network to test samba as a DC with the acct information stored in LDAP (2.2.3a). The ultimate goal is to replace the nt4 (P,B)DC we have on the network now with a samba DC. I have read about the uid gid scheme of uid *2+1000 = rid but I am a little confused. If I use pwdump to dump the existing sam database I get numbers like 1036 for the

dosemu, not WINE, to run 16 bit DPMI
Some days ago, I asked for help running an old DOS program for a CA attorney. It seemed to have a problem with 16 bit DPMI. While we have had to (temporarily, I hope) compromise and use a licensed copy of DOS 6.22 to run it with dosemu, it runs perfectly on dosemu. Instead of usind a hdimage of freedos, which will not run the program, one creates a dir, /var/lib/dosemu/bootdir, and fills it

NT/Samba 2.0.0 password problem
I believe this may not be the problem that happens the first time. I have a RedHat 5.2 running with Samba Server 2.0.0. Everything work alright with secuity of smb.conf on server mode. security = server encrypted password = yes password server = PDC However, when I tired to change to user mode, I cannot pass the authorization. security = user encrypted password = yes smb passwd file

Migrating PDC from NT to Samba
On a small Intranet (9 fixed client + some notebooks) we have decided to switch the PDC over a more reliable Linux server, actually running Samba 2.2.5 + OpenLDAP 2.0.25. To restructure the scenario, I've found very useful IDEALX's tools and pwdump. All the users and machines accounts were succesfully migrated into LDAP without any particular problem, and this was so far easy to do.

NT PDC to Samba PDC migration
Hi all, I read a few posts a while back from people who were trying to get this done. Has anyone succeeded in doing a transparent (or an as-close-to-as-possible) migration of an NT4 PDC to a Samba PDC? I know it entails stuff like snatching the passwords with pwdump or the like, and importing them into smbpasswd/LDAP, and toying around with RID's/SID's for the new PDC to make it look

Dosemu and shorewall.
Hello.. I have a somewhat "funny" setup. I use the dosemulator Dosemu for running a dos based packetradio nodeprogram called Xrouter. I setup dosemu to use my eth1 (lan) nic and i bring up a device called dsn0. (this is all running on Slackware 9.1 without X) insmod /etc/dosemu/dosnet.o sleep 2 ifconfig dsn0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 route add -host 192.168.1.2 dsn0 dosemu <

[OT] how to give ssh options to rdist
Hello, I'm trying to configure rdist over ssh so that it connects at target side as a particular user. I'm using CentOS 7.3 on both ends (I also tested with Fedora 25 with the same behavor) So I create at source side the file ~/.ssh/config under mysourceuser home Host targetsrv.localdomain.local HostName targetsrv.localdomain.local User mytargetuser Then, connected as

Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
Hello all, I hope this is an easy one, I've read all the howtos but I'm still very hazy on how to do this. What I want to do is replace my NT4 PDC with a Samba 3.0 PDC with an LDAP backend. I've got my OpenLDAP up and running with the basic People, Computers and Groups ou's. I've put the builtin NT groups in too. I have Samba 3.0 functioning as a BDC The trouble is

ssh-agent and rdist
Hi, I'm having a real difficulty here, and I'll keep this very short; ask for needed details. I've got two nearly identically configured RedHat 8 systems, call them A and B. I've generated keys with passphrases on both, added the public key for B to ~/.ssh/authorized_hosts on A and vice versa. On either machine, I can use ssh-agent with no problems. In particular, if I run

Rsync and rdist-like specials
Greetings, We manage a large farm of systems and push changes, patches, new software, etc. out to our clients using kerberized rdist. It's clunky and slow but it's got the magic of specials. Using a special one can tell rdist that if a particular file changes, preform this command. So, if we make a change to httpd.conf, we can tell rsync to bounce httpd. If httpd.conf hasn't change,

How to improve this code?
Hi all, I've got some functioning code that I've literally taken hours to write. My 'R' coding is getting better...it used to take days :) I know I've done a poor job of optimizing the code. In addition, I'm missing an important step and don't know where to put it. So, three questions: 1) I'd like the resulting output to be sorted on distance (ascending) and

Transparent migration of users to a samba PDC, how about cygwin tool ?
Hi, I would like to migrate from NT PDC to a Samba PDC. My main concern is that all my users have local profile (i.e. there is no roaming profiles). It seems that users profiles on a workstation are not valide when migrating to the Samba PDC. It seams that the users cannot keep the same identity. On the other hand, I would really like to change PDC without users noticing anything. Tools

SYSLINUX 2.01-pre1 released
This isn't strictly speaking a SYSLINUX release, it's a change to MEMDISK and mkdiskimage to allow the creation of hard disk images with DOSEMU headers. This should make it easier to create bootable DOS hard disk images under DOSEMU. ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/ -hpa
