authentication problem after upgrade to Debian Jessie
Hi,
I upgraded our servers from Wheezy to Jessie. I use samba in classic mode,
with openldap backend. After the upgrade, on the PDC (srv3) everything
seems to be ok, it authetnicates, the netlogon share is accessible on it,
but on the BDC (srv7), what is the file server, the authentication doesn't
work, shares are inaccessible.
I compared and syncronized the configuration files to as similar

Nmblookup trouble
Hi,
Some time ago, I wrote a small script based on some information on one
of the Samba lists, which let me figure out which machine a user was
logged in on. The script was this:-
# smbfind: watch for someone to log in
PATH=/bin:/usr/bin
case $# in
0) echo 'Usage: smbfind <nt_login>' 1>&2; exit 1
esac
nmblookup -S "${1}#03" | awk '/<00> - /{print

Client login delays - especially after reboot
I have just migrated to a new server and have Samba ver 3.0.12-5-SuSe
running on a small network ( 7 win 98pcs)
Logins are possible from all clients but morning logins (after client
reboot) are delayed. It can take 2 or 3 attempts to successfully login. At
each failed attempt the hour glass sits there for 30 seconds or so. logins
usually succeed on the second or third attempt.

samba - bind : program guideline suggestion
Hi all !
I'm currently developping a program that takes the smbtree output, parse it,
retrieve all connected workstations, then call nmblookup for each
workstation, resolve the IP, create a BIND zone file with this.
At this point, the programs works; I use system( " ") calls and unsafe
temporairy files. I just wanted to get it up quickly
Now; to secure this programs; I tought

Newer SMBTREE versions don't find all systems.
Hi,
Trying the latest version again tonight 4.6.7 it has the same problem
I've seen with the prior newer versions as well. The one I went back
to was 4.4.15 which works. What is happening right now is there is a
Win2K3 box that is the domain server, with thecompanydomain.com
(NetBIOS domain name: COMPANY). That has the __MSBROWSE__ on it. I
have a Linux Wheezy system on that is part of

Trouble with install, still
I've tried building it on a server that I know has pretty much every
library possible for a program to need, but I'm still not getting a
good samba install.
I'm on white-dwarf linux (kernel 2.4.25), gcc 3.3.2, Samba 3.0.2a
White-dwarf is home-grown, very much like slackware.
When I configure and make and make install, I don't get any errors, but
I when I look for some files

Workgroup Domain
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help with a weird issue I'm having -
Just set up a new server (RHEL 7.4) and have migrated my samba
configuration from my old server (Fedora 25), I'm experiencing an issue
where by if my the name of my workgroup a domain i.e. it has a period in
it, then none of my Linux clients can detect the broadcast and smbtree on
both client and server is completely empty.

samba stops updating user shares
When I share a new folder on my XP box it isn't picked up by samba after a
while.
If I immediately connect to the network and share a folder samba picks it
up. After about 10 minutes if I share another folder samba won't pick it
up.
I notice the same problem with smbtree- after a while it doesn't list user
shares.
After looking at wireshark I could see that samba stopped sending a

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi,
After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except
for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but
plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary:
system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master,
wins server, domain master browser, no iptables;
system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

Problems getting list of shares
I'm trying to do something that should be simple, but my current
solution isn't working 100%
All I need is a list of smb shares on the network.
I'm doing this:
/usr/bin/nmblookup -M -- -
and then use this on each ip returned:
/usr/bin/smbclient -g -p 139 -NL <ip addr>
That works for most cases but it fails to find all the shares

windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm
clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux.
When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the
workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each
other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't
really understand

Compile from source FAILED - Mandrake 7.2
Mates,
The saga continues, but THANK GOD 'make revert' WORKS. Here is my
problem. I am trying to compile 3.0.7 from source and install it on my
Mandrake 7.2 box. The gcc compiler is 2.95.3. Here is what I have done:
[stop samba]
# ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-smbmount
# make
# make install
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
Here is what I get:

Unable to connect to smb shares from second machine in workgroup
I have a pretty simply home LAN with a Linux box (Mandrake 9.1) and 2 XP
boxes. The workgroup is named UNIVERSE and the machines are earth
(Linux), voyager (XP) and starbase (XP). (smb.conf has security=user).
Voyager can browse over to \\earth\share no problem. Recently I
connected starbase to my LAN using a wireless router. When on starbase I
cannot browse to \\earth\share. When I do so I

smbpasswd (adding machines?) with pdb_mysql doesn't work
Hiya.
Still having fun with his mysql module - it appears to read from the
mysql database fine, but I can't seem to add machine accounts (and I
can't get too far unless I do this).
It might also be my own stupidity too - let me know ;-)
I've got a machine called "bbmachine" - without pdb_mysql, I can join
the domain no problems. However, I need to rejoin the
