Lots of ERRbadfile and Expected SMBtrans2 responses with smbclient
Hi all, I am using Amanda and smbtar for backing up Windows machines. However, in addition to the errors I get on open files (which is to be expected), I am getting errors on files that should be fine to access. Here is a snippet from the Amanda log which contains smbclient errors: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip (\ebsco-1064\) ? Expected SMBtrans2 response, got

CodeWeavers 30% off Winter Solstice Sales on CrossOver Mac a
While the big box stores and shopping malls run black Friday sales, and in recent years many of the online retailers have began to have black Monday sales. Leave it up to the wacky folks at Codeweavers to have a 30% off Winter Solstice Sales on CrossOver Mac and Linux. Why a Winter Solstice sale you might ask, well you see CodeWeavers has their headquarters in Minneapolis St. Paul Minnesota and

Days to solstice calculation
Hello, I've come across a problem in developing a set of custom functions to calculate the number of hours of daylight at a given latitude, and the number of days a date precedes or secedes the summer solstice. I discovered an inconsistency concerning leap years between my derived values and those from the US naval databases. It seems as far as I can figure that my inconsistency arises either

WinXP registry problems on SMB PDC
Hi all, I recently moved off of an ancient NT4 PDC to a SMB PDC running Samba 3.0.4-1 on a RH9 box. I had absolutely no troubles joining the domain, and other than a few login quirks every now and again, it is stable. I am, however, experiencing what I believe to be a permissions issue with the user profiles... my own, included. I am unable to make registry changes, most notably with

Samba (+ NAV?) and bad printer names?
At 4:00 every morning the 2 WinXP machines on my network generate a slew of queries to bad printer names. These names are variations on the name of a valid printer exported by Samba. Samba v3.0.10 is running on a RHEL4 system. It exports several shared drives and a single printer. The printer is named "lj4500", is managed by CUPS v1.1.22, and works correctly via Samba from both

Solstice Reborn, it works! (almost)
I installed Solstice reborn on my Linux Mint LXDE. I already have .net framework 2.0 and mono installed as well as directx 9.0. I overwrote mscore in wine libraries also. Now when I start the game it opens and there is an error message. I minimize it and a terminal like screen appears chronicling the loading process of SR. The game window pops up, the mouse changes to the game mouse, the

Out of Connections, possibly solved FYI
Hi samba Below the tweaks done on our sun system to (hopefully, id like to see this running for a few weeks) not run in Out of Connections troubles. Our Sun admin wrote: As of 10:30pm last night Titan is running a new release of samba 2.2.2. What's new about it? It's 64 bit. After reading docs.sun.com I found out that a 32 bit application cannot address more than 256 open filehandles

R Reference Card and other help (especially useful for Newbies)
Hi all: Happy summer solstice to all northern hemispherics (and winter solstice to the southerners). Newbies (and others!) may find useful the R Reference Card made available by Tom Short and Rpad at http://www.rpad.org/Rpad/Rpad-refcard.pdf or through the "Contributed" link on CRAN (where some other reference cards are also linked). It categorizes and organizes a bunch of R's

Missing Directory Entries (SMBFS)
SuSE 9.0 Pro - Kernel 2.4.21 - Samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.1-14 Here's my problem: On a box runninng XP, I have a shared folder which contains 130+ subdirectories. This share is mounted on my linux box from '/etc/smbfstab', but some directories do not show up in directory listings. It's never more than one, and which one varies, but generally seems to be in or near the last half of the

Norton IS preventing Samba workgroup from appearing in W2K browse
I know this isn't a samba configuration issue, but I'm hoping someone might have encountered this problem before and knows the solution. I just installed a Buffalo LinkStation (Linux Samba NAS) on my network and was atempting to set up a shared printer. I have three systems. All are W2K. One uses BlackICE, the others use Norton Internet Security 2004. All of the systems, including the

[PATCH 00/79] fs: new accessors for inode->i_ctime
I've been working on a patchset to change how the inode->i_ctime is accessed in order to give us conditional, high-res timestamps for the ctime and mtime. struct timespec64 has unused bits in it that we can use to implement this. In order to do that however, we need to wrap all accesses of inode->i_ctime to ensure that bits used as flags are appropriately handled. This patchset first

RFE: using rsync as a backup tool (preserve access time & com press destination files) ?
The way gnutar "preserves" atime is by noting it before the read, and setting it back after the read, thus wiping out a legitimate setting of atime occuring during that interval. Yeah, the netapps mess with unix times. Did you notice that mtime and ctime always match? Now that I know you're on a netapp, though, your problems are solved. Snapshot and sync from the snapshot, then

Administrator and Samba PDC
Hello, I posted yesterday about using samba as a primary domain controller. I have a couple other issues I need help resolving. I got my profiles copied over, but some things seem different. For example, Norton Antivirus Corporate doesn't load in the lower right like it does on my local account. Mainly stuff like that. The only other issues I am having are with Administrators. I need

memdisk 3.62 problem / Loading boot sector... booting :(
Hello everybody, I want to boot my HP x86 PCs with a Norton Ghost 12 boot disk image via PXE. I followed all the steps but I have still the same message and the booted computer hangs always. 0- I created the boot image. 1- A folder named tftpboot and tpftpboot\pxelinux.cfg created. 2- The pxelinux.0 copied in tftpboot folder. 3- memdisk copied in tftpboot folder. 4- the image file (norton.iso)

some kind of timeout problem in pbx_spool.c
I am using outgoing call files. I typically see the "ooh something changed / timeout" on a regular bases every second to be exact. Then it stops until some other call event happens. So I "mv" my call file to the outgoing spool directory, I am listening to that message, another call file is "mv"'ed into the directory and something happens to the timeout that its

Several files's checksum change without reason
Hi list, I'm a bit worried here. On a server, Centos 4.3 fully-patched SELinux activated, Osiris (a decentralized scanner for files changes on distant servers) signaled me several changes on files who were not (at first sight) affected by a recent update (the list is below). Is there a logic explanation for those changes to happen ? The "rpm -Va" command does not output md5sum

[PATCH 01/79] fs: add ctime accessors infrastructure
struct timespec64 has unused bits in the tv_nsec field that can be used for other purposes. In future patches, we're going to change how the inode->i_ctime is accessed in certain inodes in order to make use of them. In order to do that safely though, we'll need to eradicate raw accesses of the inode->i_ctime field from the kernel. Add new accessor functions for the ctime that we can

[Fwd: question for file attributes (atime, ctime)]
It looks like I need to elaborate further to get a feedback. I checked the rsync source code and it is using utime() to restore atime file attribute. It is fine to change ctime for that transferred file in this case. What we are having problem is that when rsync gets kicked off and transfers one file to the destination, this action changes ctime of "all" files in the same
