WinXP DFS problems, debugging with dfsutil.exe
Hello Johan, I'm having the same problems with DFS and WinXP clients since I upgraded to 2.2.8. I tried to clear the cache on the client side with dfsutil.exe that comes with the Win2000 SP2 but to no avail. Can anyone else confirm this problem? It's also strange that on the WinXP clients the version of the samba server is still registered as a previous version (2.2.6 or 2.2.7).

problem saving word documents
Hi, Thought I posted this already two weeks ago. Haven't seen any reactions yet, so I post it again We got the following problem here: Every now and then, users are unable to save Word or Excel documents on our Samba server. We already tried a couple of things: disabling oplocks, increasing oplock break wait time, putting the documents on a new share, ... but to no success so far. The

Interminttant trouble with DFS shares on XP clients and 2.2.8a
Hi all, Having just upgraded our IRIX 6.5 servers from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8a, we're now having trouble with the DFS shares that it serves to our site. Browsing (from 'Start|Run' \\servername) shows the folders we've set up. Double clicking on these allows us to go into them and see the DFS pointers. Double clicking on these produces:- \\net\user\homes refers to a location that is

dfs & shadow copy services
hello configuration: windows XP client linux/samba dfs link to a share on a Netapp box. from the XP client you can't see the tab "Previous Versions" if you rightclick on a file. You can see this tab if you go directly to the Netapp share or if you use a dfs link on a Windows 2003 Server. Netapp is a Shadow Copy Services Provider but apparently the linux dfs cannot handle this.

Unable to follow dfs referral - still a problem for smbclient & also freebsd smbfs
Hi, Does anyone know if there has been any more progress on the problem of browsing 'complex dfs roots' see http://lists.samba.org/archive/smb-clients/2006-February/000622.html Basically it occurs whenever you have a Microsoft Distributed File System Tree where the links are to subfolders of the destination share. Microsoft clients have no trouble browsing such trees. The Samba HOWTO

samba3, nfs mounted directory, and dfs
Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask this one. I've got a FreeBSD 6.2 machine acting as an nfs server. It's exporting a home directory to several machines. On the server that home directory has a symlink in it to another directory on the filesystem. As long as users are on the server they can view the directory symlinked to, but if viewing through samba, they're

JetDirect
Hi, WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now. The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago (within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you _MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??) This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

Emailing links from Samba DFS fileserver
Hello, I have a Samba DFS server set up (self compiled, running version 2.2.5) on a RedHat 7.3 box and I'm having a strange problem with my Windows 2000 clients. The problem occurs when we try to email a link to a file on the Samba server to another user. It happens with various types of files, but as an example, let's say I email a link to an Excel document to another user:

DFS enumeration on a Samba hosted DFS tree.
I've translated a Windows based DFS tree to a Samba based (3.0.23c) one and it seems to work quite well from Windows Explorer and cmd.exe. First off, I have a relatively big tree. grep dfscmd /root/dfs.cmd | wc -l 1614 One issue I've noticed that tree enumeration and manipulation from a Windows machine to a Samba based DFS root just doesn't work at all. For instance dfscmd.exe

ACL problem with WinXP and Samba 2.2.5-2.2.8
Trying to add users using security tab i WinXP doesn't work for us, no users are added. Existing ACLs are possible to change and delete. This behavior has been identified with both Solaris 2.6, Linux 2.4.9-31 with XFS, Samba 2.2.5 and 2.2.8. I'm attaching global part of out smb.conf and a snippet from the log. Our users are in an NT domain and in NIS. Regards, Johannes smb.conf:

Redundant DFS via DNS entries?
Hi: I'm trying to create a group of samba/NFS servers. The NIS/NFS/Automount part has always worked fine. Now I'm trying to duplicate what automount does w/ DFS. A single DFS server would be a single point of failure. I need redundant DFS. I've configured a pair of samba servers, w/ DFS on each one. Each machine has a few non-dfs shares referred to by dfs links. I've

dfs in lme
Dear R-mixed-effects-modelers, I could not answer this questions with the book by Pinheiro & Bates and did not find anything appropriate in the archives, either ... We are preparing a short lecture on degrees of freedom and would like to show lme's as an example as we often need to work with these. I have a problem in understanding how many dfs are needed if random terms are used for
