Installing printer drivers
Hi,
I'm trying to copy printer driver files to the server in a way that workstations can
install from the server just by right-clicking on the printer icon and choosing
"Install".
I created the [printers] share and created the W32X86, etc directories. In XP I
right-clicked on the printer icon and installed the drivers. It looked like it
worked. Looking at it from the linux side,

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi,
I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a
network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that?
The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4.
Here is part of the global section:

Connecting to SAMBA for first time takes a very looong time
I'm running Samba 3.0.14a-2 on FC4 as a print server. The system is
joined to the domain and I'm using the domain security model. Pretty
much, it's configured like my old Samba 2.2.7 server (which this new box
is replacing). On the PC side, printers are assigned to a user via a
VBScript running under a group policy. The first time that script runs
and tries to add the printer

Windows client refuses multiple print copies when printing to samba printer
Hello
I have got the following problem:
My Samba printer doesn't allow multiple copies, when trying to print from a
client machine. (Unix printing works fine with multple copies). When I enter
more than one copy into the "number of copies" field on a WinXP client
machine, I get the error message "This printer cannot print the specified
amount of copies. The amount of copies is

w2k print to samba problems
Haven't gotten any responses since my post last wednesday, can anyone
help? Questions too simple? Need more info? Wording too hard to
understand?
Samba 2.2.5-1 installed via RPM on a RH7.2 system, authentication is
against an NT PDC (security = domain) using winbindd. Mostly w2k

2.2.7 and printer status
Hallo Samba-Team,
thank you for 2.2.7.
The only problem I found is an old one:
status of printers served from samba on Windows 2000
I'll try to explain this so clear as possible:
If I have a Windows user "Administrator", which is in Windows
administrative group "Administratoren" and this user is on Samba-side
*mapped* to "root" --> printer status is *ok*.

XP to Samba PDC, permissions. Please give me a hand.
Hello list readers,
After setting up a Samba PDC on Suse Linux prof. 9.1. I succeeded in making
my Windows XP prof. workstation a member of the Samba domain.
When I, after succesfully logging in to the domain from XP, create or copy a
file in my own user directory (guus) permissions on te linux machine are set
right, like here:
-rwxrwxr--+ 1 guus users 4 2004-07-13 23:16 /home/guus/test

Following the "security = domain in Samba 2.x" document in the SWAT
documentation page I do this:
root@pc194-79:/usr/local/samba/bin# smbpasswd -j MDU -r pv-mdu-server1
-Ujohnm%xxxxxxxx
Joined domain MDU.
root@pc194-79:/usr/local/samba/bin#
This is in [globals]:
security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = Yes
password server = pv-mdu-server1 pv-mdu-server2
And now I start Samba via smbd

2.2.5, xp and incorrect logon drive as root
Hi @all,
I set up 2.2.5 as PDC. With an XP-Client and log on as an simular user
as root (I'm mapping "Administrator" to root in /etc/user.map) the
logon home directory is the share "root". What is the reason for that?
Is "root" a not usable name for a share?

2.2.3a - buggy homedir mapping with profiles for 9x/winxp
Hi @all,
I'm using version 2.2.3a (because the patch for printingproblems in
2.2.4 is not working for me) as a PDC for Win9x- and WinXP-Clients. I
want to set up different profile directories for Win9x and WinXP. This
seemed not a problem with
logon home = \\%N\%U\profile_9x_me
logon path = \\%N\%U\profile_nt_xp
I have a client with Win98 and WinXP on it. If I log on first with

Samba PDC and MSN Messenger
Hello,
I run a Samba 2.2.3a server with XP clients successfully. I am aware of the
fact that XP
restricts access to some of its users (local) in regards to some programs. I am
unsure which
programs these are but MSN Messenger might be one of them. I think I heard
guest users are
not allowed to use MSN Messenger under XP by default.
Now I have trouble to get MSN Messenger to start under XP for

samba authentication not auth'ing
Trying to set up a SAMBA print server using SlackWare 8.1. Have
successfully joined it to the domain, but cannot browse into the shares, as
it constantly asks for a password, and refuses to accept any including root
and NTamdin accounts. Anybody have any ideas error logs and smb.conf are below.

found that windows 2k doesn't update its status "ready" or "paused" when
used with samba. Here is what I did...

Here's a working samba.conf
Since everyone seems to only post problems to this list, I thought that I would try and post a number of solutions at once.
This is my working samba configuration file (minus key indentyfying information). It may not be perfect, but it is as close as I have been able to get it to perfect, and that is after working with samba for a few years. This configuration has my server setup as a PDC (with

Hi.
Samba 2.2.8. I have installed the drivers on the print$ share. The smb.conf
looks like this:
[printers]
print ok = yes
guest ok = yes
printcap name = /etc/printcap
print command = /usr/bin/lpr -P%p -r %s
lpq command = /usr/bin/lpq -P%p
lprm command = /usr/bin/lprm -P%p %j
lppause command = /usr/sbin/lpc hold %p %j
