Denis, I have checked this and verify that this is a bug. You can track the progress towards fixing this from https://bugzilla.samba.org as bug #210. Thanks for the feedback. - John T. Re: FW: SAMBA+ACL+XFS
Paul, Your samba does have ACLs support built-in. Please check that your system has the ACLs support libraries. Since you are using kernel 2.4.x you need to have the bestbits acls support libraries installed on your machine. Check the documentation for XFS to see how to mount the XFS file system so it has ACLs support. You should manually be able to set POSIX ACLs using the setfacls utility.

patch for rpm spec problem
The following is a description of an rpm-based rsync build problem on my Redhat 7.1 system, and a patch that fixed the spec file. The problem occurred on several recent rsync releases, including 2.5.7: rpm -tb --define '_topdir /home/user/tmp/rpmbuild' rsync-2.5.7.tar.gz ALMOST works; it uses the spec file in lsb, not redhat/7.1. This spec file fails due to bad date format in one line,

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6 - RESOLVED
Found this issue in the list archives, with no resolution. I think I found one. We were having this exact problem, and we resolved it by removing \*.doc\*.DOC\ from our smb.conf "veto oplocks" list, and adding \*.tmp\*.TMP\. Leaving the *.tmp files out of the veto list was causing Word 2000 to say that a file was currently locked by 'another user', even when the file was just

Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times
Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times. This is typical of the New York Times. Because they get to coast on the prestige and reputation of their brand , they have a history of just this sort of journalistic sloppiness. Whether it's the author or the editor at fault doesn't really matter, they do this screw-up all the time. Look, if you write an article on the first page of

FW: Strange locking errors with LabView under Samba 2.2.7 and HP-UX 11.11
I've had the chance to give 2.2.7a a try, with no change in behavior. LabView still takes several minutes to load, and disk utilization shoots way up. Just to see what would happen, I tried Samba 2.2.5 and got the same results. I then dropped back to 2.2.4, and everything works fine. LabView loads in about 12 seconds, disk utilization stays low during the load, no locking errors appear in

Does 3MB/sec seem as fast as
John, I haven't done any direct performance testing, although I am planning on figuring that out now. (BTW, how is performance testing ran?) However, I can say that since converting over to the Samba PDC/File Server that the file transfer performance just feels much faster. Regards, Robert Adkins II IT Manager/Buyer Impel Industries, Inc.
