security = problems
Is there a way to have users of the samba server, but not add them by
smbpasswd -a <UserID>?
I want the samba server to be a domain member and the users to only
authentic from the PDC. These are the steps that I have attempted:
Users are in both the Windows domain and the UNIX NIS account
1. smbpasswd -j <Domain> -r PDC -U <admin>

smbpasswd question
Do you have to enable encrypted passwords for smbpasswd to work? I
have yet to enable encryption because I wanted to test everything
first, but have enabled 'update encrypted = Yes' so that this will
update the smbpasswd file. I also have 'unix password sync = Yes'.
However, I cannot get smbpasswd to change the passwords, either by
user or root. Any suggestions?

clearcase and samba
FYI:,
I'm fairly new to samba (a couple of months now), and have experimented -
unsuccessfully - with getting it
to work with clearcase. Does anyone have a how-to, or a list of gotcha's for
setting up clearcase with samba?
Thanks in advance for any information you can send me.

running R from Notepad++ in Windows 7
hi Andrew
Many thanks for the suggestion.
I gave it a try , but still get the same issue -
a fresh Rgui window (just one) opens, with an empty .RData, when
I submit a script ( Ctrl & F8 ).
I also tried running things as administrator, but it made no difference.
Apparently windows 7 is selling like hot buns, so there should be
enough market pressure before too long , to encourage the

LDAP integration
Hi all,
I looked on the Internet but I didn't find any good how-to.
I would like to integrate a ldap server ( with all users data) with
asterisk to authenticate SIP users. With this solution I will only
need to add a user on ldap, it will not be necessary to add any
special configuration on sip.conf
Is that possible???If so, How can I configure this setup???
Thanks in advance

Configuring Samba with NIS
Hey all.
I have a bunch of linux servers, all using NIS to maintain username/password/UID/GID information. I'm trying to make the filesystems browsable from Windows XP, while maintaining correct UID/GID info. It seems this would be really simple, just let the user login to \\linuxmachine with his/her linux username & password, and everything they do happens as them. As you know - no

Interacting with Clusters...
Dear R--Help,
My current research focuses upon sensitivity analyses which require [1]
clusterings of patients in a baseline-covariate X space and [2] examining
the distribution of within-cluster treatment differences in outcome. I
have some primitive R code for this, but I want to be able to interact
with graphical displays of within-cluster information (local average
treatment effects) to

sequential t-test - replies
[my original message to s-news & r-help is attached ]
No one possessed or knew of any S/R code for the sequential t-test. Also
it doesn't appear in the SAS index.
One or two suggested obtaining the S+ seqtrial software which may (or may
not) cover this, but this seemed to be a bit of a "hammer to crack a nut".
I have written a function based on the treatment in Wetheril

Chan_mobile instability
Hi all,
I'm testing chan_mobile for a couple of months and I'm facing some
instability problems.
I would appreciate if somebody could help me with these issues:
- after a call the bluetooth connection disconnects;
- when I make a outgoing call and the other side answer, sometimes
asterisk is not informed, so it continues to ring my side but the
other side can already hear my voice.

Using Sampling Weights in R
Dear List,
I have a dataset that provides sampling weights (National Survey of
Family Growth 2002). I want to produce a cross-tabulation and use the
provided sampling weights to obtain representative population estimates.
(I believe they are simply frequency weights but codebook is
uninformative).
I can reproduce results (using this data) that were reported in a recent
journal article, if I

FW: CRAN check errors: drake 4.1.0 on r-devel-linux-x86_64-debian-clang
Hello,
The CRAN checks for the drake package (4.1.0) fail for r-devel-linux-x86_64-debian-clang. This happened right when crayon 1.3.4 was released, but I suspect the problem is not with crayon or drake, but with base R-devel. I cannot reproduce the error myself, but I have copied a minimal working example (MWE) below that should theoretically isolate the problem.

Homebrew RBAC
I''m trying to design an RBAC solution for my project. I don''t want to use
plugins or engines as I''d like to know how it works. My problem is as
follows.
I have 4 user types: caller, client, rep, admin. Each have their own model
because they would require different registration information. For instance
rep requires tax id # whereas caller requires social security

Calling rcmd.exe from a CGI
I have a web cgi running on Win NT (version 4, service pack 5) that
executes a perl program (call it foo.pl).
foo.pl reads and conditions some data files, creates a summary data file
for R, and then forks rcmd.exe (version 1.2.2) in BATCH mode (all of this
is taking place on an NT box).
foo.pl works fine if run from a command line (i.e. there are no apparent
bugs in foo.pl and my R program

Barnard's sequential t-test code ?
Does anyone have, or know of, some S or R code to implement
the sequential t-test ?
The test is outlined in Kendall & Stuart vol 2A, ch 24, and a 'how
to do it' with a set of tables is given in 'Design & Analysis of
Industrial Experiments' ( O.L.Davies).
I'm interested in obtaining/creating an Splus or R application which
calculates the upper and lower curves
