couldn't load ext3
Hi I am running a PC under Linux SuSE 7.2 with kernel 2.4.18, self compiled. I changed some days ago the partition of my second HD from ext2 to ext3 with the help of tune2fs -j /dev/hdb2 and everything was running OK. Today, I had a problem with a frozen display and I had to reboot the box cold. During the corresponding forced check I got the following messages: Quote --------- /dev/hdb2: reading

Ext3 and external journals...
Hi, I am trying out ext3 with an external journal (on a battery backed RAM card). I use data=journal, and sync nfs writes go nice and fast :-) But.. I had to power cycle it (buggy VM.. grumble :-) and now I cannot get my filesystem back. It is only a test filesystem so I don't need the data. But I want this to work before I put real data on it. If I "fsck /dev/md1", it

EXT3-fs error: ext3_readdir: bad entry in directory
Hi. IIRC, I had the same problem with 2.4.3 and ext2, I'm not sure if with the same directory entry, but at the time fsck fixed without any problems. I only know that the error again is with my Mozilla sources. The Mozilla sources are in another partition. I used lndir from my root fs to symlink everything and build it. At some point c++ segfaulted (happens a lot with my GCC 3.0), and I had

Problems converting rootfs to ext3
Hi, i am having problems converting the rootfs - I created a journal and booted with "rw rootflags=journal=<inode>" - Before i changes the fstab and put the WIP fsck to /sbin/fsck.ext3. The kernel seems to mount the filesystem ok and then the bootup scripts (debian potato) try to fsck the rootfs which leads to e2fsck 1.20-WIP, 17-Jan-2001 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 JFS DEBUG:

syslinux ansi <-> vesa color mapping
I have noticed anything using ANSI escape sequences to color text does not work if syslinux is in VESA mode. It only works if the \1#, \2#, or \3# are used. This means that libmenu which relies on csprint fails to render colors in VESA mode. I noticed the default color table has a complete table generated at runtime for all VGA color combinations, which csprint also does but from VGA attributes on

ext3 crash after RedHat 7.2 installation
Hi everyone, I've been running Redhat 7.2 (new install) for about 2 weeks now without any problems, but today I was not so lucky. My system hung while I was trying to configure the kernel-source RPM using 'xconfig'. After rebooting the system, it seems that my whole ext3 file system is corrupted. I get the message: Mounting root filesystem EXT3-fs: ide0(3,3):couldn't mount

Strange fsck.ext3 behavior - infinite loop
Greetings! Need your help fellow penguins! Strange behavior with fsck.ext3: how to remove a long orphaned inode list? libc6-xen not used on AMD Geode LX system
Hi, I'm trying to install xen+Debian Etch on a Geode LX system. Xen boots fine, but although the package "libc6-xen" is installed I have a large number of such errors: 4gb seg fixup, process syslogd (pid 1878), cs:ip 73:b7f24610 All processes triggers it, and from what I've found on the web it's a sign that libc6-xen is not recognized. EXT3 corruption when FS is full
Hi, (I'm not subscribed to ext3-users, please CC: me) Kernel: 2.4.18. I've just converted a 100(ish) MiB ext2 filesystem to ext3 (umount, tune2fs -j, e2fsck, mount) and it seems to be happy, except... As a test, I then filled the filesystem up, lastly copying /usr/bin (as root, so the filesystem became brim full). I then umounted it, and ran e2fsck -n -f /dev/hda6, and got the

I have a CentOS-6.8 system which has a suspected HHD failure. I have booted it into rescue mode from a CentOS-6.5 minimal install CD in order to run fsck -c on it. The system hosts several vms. I have activated the lvs associated with these vm using pvscan -s ; vgscan ; vgchange -ay. An lvscan shows the lvs as ACTIVE. None are mounted. When I try to run fsck on any of them I see the
