log files - slackware
Does anyone use slackware with samba? And if so, are they able to produce 'log.nmbd' files? I can't. But I can do this just fine with RH8.0. By the way - my version of Slackware is 8.1 -- T.L.Gervais Coldbrook, NS Canada.

Windows Profiles not being placed in defined logon path
Hi there everyone, I recently upgraded to 2.0.6 from 2.0.5a in a hope to improve data integrity (I was having oplock_break problems that would affect the integrity of a lot of Excel files). So far so good with the oplock_breaks (even with oplocks reenabled). :-) However, I've started having problems with the clients' Windows profiles not being placed in my defined logon path.

R-beta: How do I dyn.load in R for Windows95?
I am currently running R under Windows95. I am entirely new to R in any environment, with no prior experience of S or S-Plus either. I want to run some functions written for S-plus and residing in a file "cat.s". The fuctions also call some Fortran routines residing in a compiled fortran file "cat.obj" In S-Plus as I understand it I am supposed to first

Corrupted Excel files, oplock_break(905) errors
Hi there everyone! I'm using Samba 2.0.5a-19990721 on a RedHat 6.0 machine with Linux kernel 2.2.12. My system generally works fine, however recently I've had some complaints about some files being corrupted. The latest and best-handled to enable a debugging happened at around the same time. Both clients were using Windows95 OSR2 machines with Excel 97 SP-2. Two users reported the problem

Samba and NIS
Dear All, I am attempting to set up Samba 1.9.18p8 on a Sun E450 running Solaris 2.6. The Sun is configured as a NIS master serving a number of other Unix machines. It is our primary development platform acting as a NIS client and also has auto mounted home directories for users. Samba has been built using GCC 2.8.1 with the following options set: FLAGSM = -DSUNOS5 -DSHADOW_PWD -DAUTOMOUNT

What hardware to use for ISDN in Romania
Hello everyone. My land-line provider (Romtelecom) has a very nice offer for ISDN. All in all they offer me a digital land-line with 1 base number + 2 MSN's and that would make a grate addition to my full-time home office. Romtelecom say they're providing EURO-ISDN and the line is compatible with any euro-isdn compliant equipment. They say they'll install a NT at my office and this

New dcom95 mirror
Hello, as Jeremy Newman wanted mirrors for dcom95, here's a new link http://www003.portalis.it/115/download/dcom95.zip Note that because of the Microsoft licencing conditions, you are licenced to download this file only if you are going to use it with wine. Ivan.

Persistent locked files & Win95
I often find with Samba v2.0.3 that files accessed via Win95 (OSR2) stay locked forever after exiting the application that used them. I've got an application called Visual SlickEdit (VSE), which is installed on a shared drive. The drive is an exported Samba share from my RedHat v5.2 (kernel v2.2.5) server. Both the Win32 and OS/2 versions of VSE are installed beneath the same subdirectory

Possible bug: 'all new dirptrs in use?'
Hi, Two users on a network runing Samba 2.05a and Win95 OSR2 clients have a problem that occurs several times a month, always near the end of the day. If they open a samba share, it doesn't show any files. The logfile says: [2000/01/10 18:03:06, 0] smbd/dir.c:dptr_create(453) dptr_create: returned 0: Error - all new dirptrs in use ? Apparently bitmap_find() (dir.c, line 450) wraps around to

User list problem on Win9x.
I'm a bit confused about user enumeration on Win9x boxes. I've got a couple of machines running SaMBa. One (M2Dual) is running 2.0.7 with security = domain and domain server = M2Hub. The other (M2Hub) is running 2.2.3a with security = user. I also have three Win9x machines. All have user level security turned on. Roving profiles work on all machines and all users. Logon scripts run

Hello group; This is a question that has been posted before, but I haven't found an answer in the archives or in the FAQ/docs. I've been thru the DIAGNOSIS.txt, and get stuck on net view \\machname from a W95 OSR2 box (error 53 ...). Setup: Solaris machine running Samba 2.0.0. I can use smbclient to connect to it from various HP, AIX, Solaris, and Linux boxes, and NT 4.0 clients work

Icons in Windows95
Hi. I don't know much about samba, so I thought someone could help me on this one: I'm using a Sun with Samba server to store all the applications used on the network. The problem is that icons for those applications will not show up in Windows95. If I make a shortcut form a .exe file on the samba-server, the shortcut will show on the desktop with windows standard icon, and not the
