We have 20-30 computers here with win98 and a Linux/Samba Server. We have just implemented Samba PDC. The only problem I see is if we change passwords on a computer..that changes on that workstation and on Samba and Unix. Now, if the user goes to another computer they have their old password on the other computer and new one on Samba. So, would roaming profiles help me...what i want to do is

password change error
Hi, We migrated from redhat 7.1 to redhat 3 ES and ran into one road block after the other. Most of them were solved except this last one. Users cannot change their passwords and then I read somewhere that samba 3.0 and MS KB828471 or 741 don't want to be friends. Then I upgraded my samba to be samba 3.0.7 (which i guess is the latest).... Then I un-installed the KBB patch being accused.

Samba PDC + XP: still not solved?
Hi all, I've been reading and there's a lot to read but no solution! I'm using samba 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian and I seem to have set everything I can: changed the signsecurechannel, sealsecurechannel in the registry to 0 (and back to 1), Changed the policies for autoenrollent and the password encryption (put that off in samba and in windows and then back on again) But ALWAYS do I get

2.2.7a securtiy 'server' auth. problems
Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before, but as far as I could see there's no similar entry in the archive. I'm using version 2.2.7a on a HP machine running HP-UX 11.11. The binaries have been created for PA-RISC 2.0 supporting 64Bit mode. The SAMBA has been configured to use securty = server. Password servers has been 'defined'. Ntconfig.pol policies not applied immediatly after been read
hi, My NTconfig.pol file into \\netlogon share seems to be good... in the logs the file is readed with no problem at my user logon. The strange think I have is that the policy I've made is applied if my user loggon onto a windows 2003 server we have for testing purpose ! (If I loggon first onto my win2k machine, the policy is not applied ...) logging after onto my win2k computer takes

Samba, OpenLDAP and Windows Vista
I have a Samba server set up to share files within a small network (with 2 clients) and I use OpenLDAP to store user accounts. I have pretty much got everything working (smbclient prints the correct information and I can browse and log into Samba via Nautilus) except I can't get the Vista client to connect to Samba, as it won't even prompt for a username and password it simply pops up

Samba 3.0.8 - Unable to login/logon from Windows 2003 or CIFS
Hi Folks, Recently (I believe since recent 3.0.x releases), I have been unable to login to a Samba instance using CIFS (Linux mount) or Windows 2003. If I change the smb.conf from: security = server to security = user I _can_ login again fine. The NT PDC always replies with NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. It's event viewer shows that the proper username is being used, but that the password is

[Samba 4.3.11] Changing GID of "domain users" - wbinfo shows still the old GID
Hi working on Ubuntu server 16.04.1 with Samba Version 4.3.11-Ubuntu I have an AD-DC and a Domain Member for file sharing All tests are OK. Loggon with remote profiles works. Today I changed (ldbedit) the GID of the Domain Users from 5000 to 10001 (No files will be generated with this GID. It is here only for wbinfo to work). The change was accepted. ldbsearch on the AD-DC shows the new GID of

WinXP problems accessing Samba shares
I'm having problems accessing Samba shares from my XP Pro machine. Samba 2.2.7 is installed on two Redhat 8.0 machines and configured using SWAT. I have user level security and encrypted passwords setup. I have a printer shared on both servers as well as home directories and one restricted access share. My printers are setup for guest access so all machines will always be able to print.

Mitgrating Nt4 PDC to samba; user mapping
I've to migrate a NT4 PDC to an samba PDC (running samba 3.0.0beta2 on a debian/GNU/linux box). Samba is already setup and working as a BDC. When I try to perform: net rpc vampire -S PDC all existing userSIDs are put into samba's 'passwd.tdb'. The problem is now, how to get a working userSID <-> UID mapping: The existing userSID have RID parts in the range of

Mapped username then gets mapped to "Anonymous"
Hi Everyone, I have setup a Samba share to work on our local network with a username map to accommodate Windows XP usernames with spaces, but it seems that Samba maps the username correctly but then immediately changes it to an Anonymous request. Am I missing something? Clip from log file: -------------------------------------------------------------- [2007/11/09 09:58:49, 3]

Show stopper - 2nd cry for help
<Long Post, sorry!> Folks, I have a really nasty problem preventing me from migrating a bunch of NetWare 5 servers to Samba--attempts to copy large (> 2MB+) files to any samba share results in an error. To clarify what I mean by "error": 1. I attempt to copy, using explorer, a 2MB+ file to any samba share. 2. A 30 second or so pause occurs (copying this file to any other
