Winbind, RedHat 7.1, Pam 0.74-22 ohh so close to working
Hello,
I have gone through the howto provided but I am not yet able to
logon to my linux box using NT4 domain accounts. I can however authenticate
to restricted shares and I can obtain groups and users via "getent" and
"wbinfo -u". All I really need now is a working /etc/pam.d/login. I've tried
examples from the howto as with others from the mailing list but I can not

getent not working / winbindd issues
I first start smbd -D and nmbd -D
Then I start winbindd
Then I join the domain (smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DOMAINCONTROLLER -U
Administrator) It works
Then I check my Secret (wbinfo -t) and it's good
Then I list users and groups (wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g) and it works fine
However I still cannot get "getent passwd" and "getent group" working,
it just lists the local users

Winbind trouble. Wbinfo see's users, "getent passwd" doesn't
I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've
been using for far too long.
I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine.
Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can
transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has
approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it

wbinfo -u returns 0xc0000022
Hello,
I am attempting to add a Redhat 9 box to our NT4 domain as a member
server. I want to enumerate user and group info so I don't have to make
two sets of user and group accounts. I've setup samba (version 2.2.7a)
and pamd the way I think I'm supposed to, but wbinfo -u always returns
0xc0000022. I've found this particular error mentioned in a few
articles, but applying the

Samba help for domain user setup (samba 3.x)
How do I interpret what this mean?
@"prfmstrt2+Domain Users"
What is prfmstrt2? Is that a group created in /etc/group? I take it the +
is a winbind seperator. What is the manner of assigning domain users to
have access to a share? Do I still need to create the domain user name in
/etc/passwd, assign it to a group in /etc/group? Do I need to use
smbgroupedit to make the domain

getent not working correctly
Hello again!
Ok, I've gotten wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g working great
Now I try to run getent passwd and getent group I get my local users/groups but not the ones on the Windows 2k Server Domain Controller and it just hangs after listing the local ones.
I also tried authenticating a user and it worked I'm assuming

Winbind issues
Several questions really (all on the stable 2.2.2 samba compiled with
winbind and acls (and Brandon Stone's recycle bin), with a 2.4.14 kernel
along with acls from acl.bestbits.at on a RedHat 7.2 box)...

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html.
There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

Problem with pam_winbind
I'm on a redhat 7.2 box, and I am trying to configure PAM to use winbind
to authenticate against an NT4 PDC. I followed the instructions I
found at:
http://de.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND
I compiled the 2.2.4 source and have tried several permutations of the
setup they suggest, and have tried many solutions I've seen suggested on

Cant Log Into Terminal Using Winbind
List,
I am unable to log into a terminal using Winbind service. I have the login file correctly modifyed and nsswitch too. I have the 2.2.5 version of SAMBA with the new winbind. SAMBA shares work great, so I think it is something else. I get this error in the messages log:

Hi,
I'm running a linux RedHat 7.2 box with samba 2.2.4.
I want to use winbind for authentification.
The samba server is a member server in a W2K domain.
I followed the steps in the winbind help which comes with the samba

Joining the domain was successfull:

I'd appreciate any help getting winbind to work on Solaris 8 (Sparc).
I've followed the HOWTOs and other documents on the web but can't seem
to get even the basic functionality going.

On the NT side it is win2k with an ADS tree.

Help with Winbind
I've been trying for weeks to get winbind working with RedHat Linux 8.0.
I've got everything setup per the winbind docs on
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND.
I've successfully joined my NT4 domain with smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U
Administrator. Running wbinfo -u returns my domain user list, as well as
wbinfo -g returning my domain groups. getent

Using winbind authentication with Windows 2003 AD - SSH login failures
Hi all,
I have been trying to setup authentication of users on a Linux server
against Windows server 2003 using winbind.
I am at the point where an
su - ADUSERNAME
works, but sshing as that user still doesn't work.
When I try to ssh as an AD user as follows:
ssh -l "RILINUX+testuser" server.domain.com
I get the following output in /var/log/messages:

Questions about winbind idmap ldap
We are using W2K domain with Samba3 servers.
The implementation of samba servers with winbind authentication was
successful.
Now we are looking for winbind idmap ldap backend for distributing
winbind users ID's, and I have following question:
1. Do I need put all users from W2K domain to LDAP by hand (with export
- import tools)?
2. Or it is possible to automatically put successfully
