Samba SSSD authentication via userPrincipalName does not work because samba claims that the username does not exist.
Dear all, i'm investigating the issue that I can't authenticate against a Samba (as Active-Directory Member) using the userPrincipalName (UPN). (Using Samba and sAMAccountName works fine.) After some research I'm quite sure that winbind is limited to the sAMAccountName and can't use UPN. So I deciced to use SSSD and configured the `ldap_user_name = userPrincipalName` in the

Unencrypted passwords -> Encrypted passwords: can't revert WinNT4 to use encrypted passwords
Hello, I'd be very grateful if anyone could share their ideas on this problem. The situation is this: I have a Solaris 8 machine running Samba 2.2.1a. The global configuration has "security = USER" and originally had "encrypt passwords = NO". I was able to map drives to shares on this machine from my WinNT 4 SP 5 workstation when I set the registry key advised by the

Password Server level authentication
Hello all :-) I have a Solaris 2.5.1 1.9.18p7 Samba server. I want to use an NT 4.0 SP3 server to do all username and password authentication. I have the following entries in the global section of the smb.conf file: [global] # workgroup = <Windows NT Domain Name> workgroup = DOMAIN01 # The NetBIOS name by which the Solaris Samba server is known. netbios name = SMBSRV

Win98: net use works, Map Network Drive doesn't; no browsing, either
Hi all! I'm using Samba v2.0.4b with Mac OS X. My Win98 machines are giving me behavior that I'm having difficulty diagnosing: * The server doesn't show up under Network Neighborhood. * Map Network Drive doesn't work with the "netbios name" I specified. I may be confused, but it doesn't work with the "workgroup name", either: \\NETBIOSNAME\SHARE NAME

PrivSep and PAM environment variable setting
I think I've seen this come up before, but I couldn't find an answer in the archives. I'm trying to use the PAM "pam_mail.so" module on Linux to set the MAIL environment variable (so I don't have to try to do it in various shell init scripts), but the MAIL setting doesn't get passed through unless I disable PrivilegeSeparation. Is there a way to have PAM set

PAM, NSS, and a new blocking=yes setting
I wondered for a while if I should do this before v1.0, but since there seem to be problems with some PAM/NSS users and this was way easier to implement than I realized, here it is: passdb pam and userdb passwd now support blocking=yes setting in their args. For PAM the default has been to fork the dovecot-auth process and talk via a pipe to the main dovecot-auth. I've never really liked this

file name starting with [0-9]* not synchronized (!?)
Hi, I'm trying to backup a remote directory. Although the remote directory hasn't been changed after rsync's run, I realize that the supposed synchronization missed some files. Does it have to do with rsync or I miss something ? Thanks very much, Mihai. ______________________________ quad ...lu2/BACKUP/k2/mnt/i1/vbs# rsync -av --stats rsync://mlozo@k2/vobuser/user

Running vbscript .vbs file in an EXE
Hi, I'm new to wine, and am having a bit of trouble. I'm trying to run an EXE installer, which starts fine, prompts me for a few questions, and creates a few directories, but at a certain point it tries to run a vbs file, which fails. The attempt to run the .vbs file causes this message to appear in an alert window: "There is no Windows program configured to open this type of

trying to run a visual basic script via WINE - need help.
Ok I need to run a .vbs for a program which I run in wine (diablo 2). Google says "VBS in Linux. It works fine running in WINE. You just have to install the Windows Script Host. And you may need to hand-register the COM DLLs in the WSH installer at the command line. Last I saw, WINE wasn't handling self-reg. DLLs." I downloaded WSH 5.6 and ran that in WINE. When it was done I
