Samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0
Samba Team, How do I create simulated load on a samba server? I wish to use feedback-directed program restructuring on AIX 5.2 to determine if performance can be improved by rearranging the executable generated by the IBM 6.0 compiler. Mostly I'm determining what the upper bound on smbd's is in a multiprogramming environment. I'm currently running about between 800 and 1000

2.2.7a slowness on AIX 5.1-ML03
I have an open PMR with IBM regarding a slowness issue when more than 450 smbds are trying to login and download roaming profiles. The system is a 6H1 with 6 RS64-III 668MHz cpus and 6 GB memory w/Gb ethernet. We have over 10,000 student accounts with roaming profiles and 800 XP-SP1 workstations for them to choose from. I've compiled 2.2.7a in 64 bit and 32 bit modes. Run it on both the 32

Using Puppet to push Windows Updates?
Hi, I''m very new to puppet but am looking to implement it in our environment. One thing I''m struggling with is that I would like Puppet to be the only tool that makes changes to our servers, but as we run Windows for most of our systems, we need to run the continuous onslaught of Windows updates as well as normal configuration changes and software installation / updates. Are

facebook_url_rewriter not used in Publisher?
As per my last email, I''m generating links to our app outside of Facebook. Sorry for the onslaught of emails on this. I do link generation in Publisher based code as well. What I''m finding is that the Facebooker UrlRewriter doesn''t get used in Publisher. This makes sense if we assume that Publisher can be used outside of an HTTP request, and things like the

More GoDaddy Woes
My GoDaddy Rails site has been plugging away for a couple of weeks. Its just a proof of concept with very little use. I haven''t updated it or restarted FCGI at all. But today, it just quit working altogether. In the error log, I''m getting: (104)Connection reset by peer: FastCGI: comm with server "dispatch.fcgi" aborted: read failed FastCGI: incomplete

SAMBA eats up all memory...
Hello, I am running SAMBA 2.0.7.0 on AIX 4.3.3.0 I have a 1 Tera Byte filesystem on AIX made available to NT and MAC. There is heavy IO activity on this filesystem and all of a sudden the NT's and MAC's can't read or write any file on this shared filesystem. Also AIX is running out of memory whenever this happens and files cannot be copied onto the said filesystem even at unix

thinking ahead... far ahead
I've been having a problem with motion on one server - the .avi's it produces are dark, low contrast, and it keeps resizing from 642x420 to 296x360 or some such. Trying to figure it out, I was just going through /var/log/dmesg, and found rtc0: alarms up to one year, y3k, 114 bytes nvram I mean, y3k? I think we've got 900 years or so to worry 'bout that.... mark

Planning Ahead Question
I''ve got a small network and have successfully used Shorewall on a single IP (static) and two interface setup for the past three years. The firewall also runs DNS, Apache and Sendmail. I''m planning on moving the web server and mail to a DMZ machine and setting up a three interface configuration. As I sit here thinking ahead, I''m not sure I understand how the mail server

read-ahead performance translator tweaking with 3.2.1?
Hi Is there a way to tweak the read-ahead settings via the gluster command line? For example: gluster volume set somevolumename performance.read-ahead 2 Or is this no longer feasible? With read-ahead set to the default of 8 like was the case with standard volgen generated configs, the amount of useless reads happening to the bricks is way too high, and on 1 GbE interconnects causes saturation

In the shell than I'm running the Asterisk console I have TZ=US/Eastern and in my voicemail.conf I have tz=eastern and eastern=America/New_York|'vm-received' Q 'digits/at' IMp. The voicemail envelope information seems to be exactly 4 hours ahead. No matter what I try I can't seem to find the cause. Any ideas? Frank
