Saving file and file locking problems
I was just with my boss cause he had trouble with some Excel and Word document on the Samba server. I noticed that when he saves an Excel document sometimes it takes a lot of time to save and sometimes Excel stop responding, when that happens the file stays locked on the server and when he tries to open it back, he can only open it read only. Is there a reason why it takes so much time to save?

GetPrinter Level 2 does not get devmode
Hi all, I have uploaded the printer drivers succesfully on RedHat Linux/ Samba 2.2.4 server. I can download and print without any problems. But when I do Windows API call GetPrinter with PRINTER_INFO_2, the devmode in printer_info is always null. My code looks like HANDLE hPrinter=NULL; PRINTER_DEFAULTS pDefaults; pDefaults.DesiredAccess = PRINTER_ACCESS_USE;

Which filesystem supports ACL?
Which filesystem supports ACL? Ext2/ext3 with the acl.bestbits.at patch, XFS and what other? Does 2.4.18 supports XFS or do you need a patch for it? What about ACL on XFS? Do you need a patch? Is there any filesystem that supports ACL, that the kernel supports without patches? Any place I can find a comparison of different filesystems with advantage and disadvantage of each? Renaming machine name
Hi, I had to rename a machine name today because someone used the same name on two computers. I just added a random character to the machine name and I thought that since I have the idealx script setup to auto-create machines accounts it would add it automatically but it didn't so I had to get the computer out of the domain and rejoin it with it's new machine name so it would add it

Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
Hello! I'm using samba with CUPS printing (with raw passthru) for a long time now and it worked very well. But after upgrading my samba installation from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9, the printjobs (sent from XP Workstations) aren't removed from the joblist anymore. Means: the job is printed correctly, but opening the printqueue on the XP machine still contains the job (not only mine, but jobs from

smbstatus - switched off computers are sometimes showed
I have a Samba server configured as PDC for ~100 computers. It's version 3.0.24 running on Debian Etch (distribution package). I want to write a tool for user logon/logoff tracking. Because parsing log files is hard job (windows frequently disconnets or connects during user session or etc.) I decide to use smbstatus output which seem to be reliable. So I run smbstatus binary every 10

Countless "rec_read bad magic" lines in log.smbd

Copying profiles to a new samba server
Well I had to set up Samba on a new server and everything seem to went pretty well for the most part but now when I try to log on the domain it gives me an error message saying it couldn't load the profile on the server. What I did was set up new server with pretty much the same configuration, then one evening when there was nobody here I copied all the profiles and other stuff from the old

Copy User/Pass from Samba to WinXP
Ok I have a samba server that I use for file sharing, I have a lot of trouble with it and I want to see if putting those shares on a WinXP box would work better. But we don't have a domain here, just workstation in a workgroup and I was wondering if there was a way I could copy all user/pass from the samba server to the Windows box so that transfering the shares from Samba to Windows would be

Samba stops working on HP-UX 11
I've had a consistent problem with Samba from 2.2.1 onwards, maybe even before then, I'm not sure when it started. Anyway, Samba will randomly stop responding to any requests, although it usually occurs after transfering large amounts of data (1 GB+). To get around the problem, I've been restarting samba every night, but we still have the problem occasionally. smbclient shows:

Re-2: Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
That was a good hint! Yes, I've installed SP2, and it realy seems to be the Problem. Now I've checked that on a machine with SP1 - and the jobs from the same printqueue are removed correctly there! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Samba] Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ? Making nt_printer.tdb from tdbtool?
Hello All -- We are trying to consolidate our printer management from a series of NT print servers to a series of Samba ones, in a global network with ten offices and about 150 printers. All printing is PostScript and goes to HP and Canon printers over lpd through custom 'if' filters which do accounting. To help this we're trying to automate the printer and driver registration
