nmbd in redhat 8.0
If I enable wins support = yes & I start smbd it starts smb & nmb. When I restart the service it says that there is no nmb service at 10045 running. When I do a ps -aux, you can still see the service running. They will keep building up until I manually delete them. Does anyone know how to fix this?

win2k dropping network connection to samba
Hello, I have a client that has a RedHat 8 box with samba 2.2.7 running as a basic file server. They have two win98 computers and 1 w2k pc. They have no problems accessing the files on the server from the win98 pc's but the win2k pc keeps dropping the connection... I would normally say... ok its some hardware problem with the win2k box... BUT if i copy files to and from shares on the win98

samba 2.2.2 help!
I have a network with 25 nt 4.0 machines running service pack 6. My server is running Redhat 7.1 with samba 2.2.2. Whenever I copy any files larger than a couple of megabytes between client machines and the server I get a "Cannot copy "filename": The session was canceled" error message. I have turned oplocks off in each share. I'm also having problems running quickbooks

Login from win2k client to samba PDC
I have joined my win2k client machines (win2k professional or win2k professional server) to my PDC. This worked fine and I did all recommended as e.g. in the HOWTO http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba/samba-pdc.html#joining. So far I can also login localy to the win2k client machines using a local account and connect a network drive from the PDC using a valid account on the PDC (as given in the

Rsync service on Win2k?
Hi all, I'm trying to get rsync running on a Windows 2k box (my tape backup server) to remotely back up stuff from a few unix boxes. Not my favored constellation, but there's not much I can do about that. I'm hoping someone could give me a quick tip or two on getting rsync working as a Win2k service. I'm not real proficient with Win2k, so be gentle. The posts I could find

general question - help creating a login script to pass a RPC to create symblinks from win2k on linux
Hi, I am new to samba and Linux and need some help coming up with a solution to a nerve racking problem. Here is what we are trying to do. Users log into an NT environment (accessing shares via samba running on Linux/Aix). The user should only see and have access to the share(s) he/she has been assigned to. Similar to Novell "map root" or symbolic links. Our issue is try to

win2k login to samba 3.03/4 PDC problem
I am having a problem getting a user to login to a win2k box that was successfully added to the samba3.0.3/4 domain. Originally I had a problem with adding the machines but I modified the smbldap_conf.pm add machine function to add the machine to the local passwd file as well as ldap and it was fine. This does seem strange to me though because I can't figure out why it would need to be added

Samba 2.2.7 and Win2K - printer drivers
Hi, I'm trying to find out, is it possible to deliver printer drivers automatically for Win2K clients by a samba printer server. Clients are Win2K with SP2. I can see printers shared by samba. Win2K-client says "Access:denied: Unable to connect", unless I configure a shared printer with an option: "use client driver = yes" Samba is running on RH 8.0 and shares work just

Win2k clients and PDC
Hi, We have Samba 2.2.6(+2.2.7 security patch) installed on solaris. Samba is used as PDC for WinNT and Win2K clients. The WinNT machines have no problems geting into the domain as machine trust accounts exist in /etc/passwd and smbpasswd file. However, Win2k clients are not able to join the domain. I did go through the documentation, and hence created root account in 'smbpasswd'

Multiple Login issues with XP, Win2K
I just recently set up Samba for the first time so I'm new to all of this. I can get my XP to access the shares as a workgroup but I cannot get it to be a member of the domain. When I try to login it responds with an error message about "Multiple Logins are not allowed" Any hints on where I should start to look. smb.conf looks fine and both Windows and Unix users are have been

gui win2k interface for managing ACL or quota ?
hi, I have a question here: May I use the win2k gui interface for adding a user rights to a file (I mean with ACL, equivalent to "setfacl -m u:test:rwx myfile" for example) OR May I use the setfacl command or another tool like acl tool into webmin (I use it and it works good) ? Cause I have tryed to add rights for a user onto a file into gui windows, but the logs say that I don'

Printing problems Win2K SP4 on 3.0.x and 2.x
I'm afraid I am stumped, and need some help or pointers. Ever since I've "upgraded" my Win2k boxes to SP4, I've been unable to print to Samba-shared printers (on Solaris and Freebsd). Originally I was running the current 2.2.x, and figured trying to diagnose the problem would provide an impetus for trying 3.0, which I have from beta3 through RC1. That bit of history is

AW: Login from win2k client to samba PDC
John, thanks for that hint. It did not kill the server by you are perfectly right. I changed this and restarted the "smb" and "nmb" deamons - unfortunately with the same result. When I watch e.g. the status with "swat" I see as follows after trying with: smbclient -U <user> -L win2k1 (what is strange since I connect as different user and not

Unable to join Win2k to Samba Domain
Hi, We have a network of about 20-30 win2k machines in a Samba 2.2.7 (RH7.3) domain. All are joined OK. From yesterday (no idea what changed...), I'm unable to join new machines in the domain... The message from win2k is "The specified user doesn't exist". I join using the root user which is valid (able to connect to shares with this user). If I type a wrong password, I have

Win2k Performance Problems
Redhat 8.0 Samba 2.2.7 (See attached smb.conf for Samba config.) I'm having a speed problem copying files to or from the Samba server using a Windows 2000 Pro computer. For example, it takes around 2 minutes to copy a 30 MB file. During this copy, I've only got 2 computer on the network (the Samba server and the Win2k client). I've checked all DNS issues and there are none--both
