Changing journaling mode on root / loop-aes
EXT3 developers: I am curious, if EXT3 is currently being used on the root partition in "data=ordered" mode (the default as I understand), and I want to have the it come up in data=journal mode, how do you effectuate this conversion? I would also be curious how to know if anything special is required for doing so for the /boot partition as well. I believe that with the /home partition,

EXT3 Worries
Dear Sir or Ma'am: I am interested to think about implementing EXT3 onto my servers here. However, I have some concerns and am hoping someone can address them. 1) If I install ext3 what is the likelihood that the extent of damage caused by its bugs will be limited to just the fact that the journals may not work properly? Alternatively, do I risk real damage to files and the filesystem at

2GB of Waste? How can it be?
Dr. Tweedie, et al.: I recently formatted a partition using EXT3, and after a "df -h" I get 14GB of space. When I reformatted the partition with ReiserFS, and did a "df -h" I got 16GB of space! Now the partition was setup to be 16GB via fdisk, so 16GB is correct. However, why does EXT3 loose 2GB of space? The journals cannot be that big!?! Very Respectfully, Stuart

Mandrake may operate that way, but RedHat does _not_ -- at least that has been my experience.

Windows 8.1 Join Domain
I have Samba 3.6.6 configured as a domain controller, but am unable to get new machines to join the domain. I've set the WINS on these machines in the IPv4 network configuration and get as far as entering my samba (ldap) credentials, but the whirlything spins for a while then says it cannot contact the domain, domain does not exist. If a machine had already been part of the domain when it

some cannot join domain
Hi, I have some machines (winXP and win2k) that cannot join my domain. Others I have joined to the domain. I am using the smbldap-tools 0.8.9 with an add machine script as follows: add machine script = /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u" The LDAP entity gets created with objectClasses top, inetOrgPerson, and posixAccount. My impression is that samba then comes

Re: 2GB of Waste? How can it be? -- some JFS are worse than non-JFS
"IT3 Stuart Blake Tener, USNR-R" wrote: > In terms of enterprise reliability, I understand, however, having an > "office recommended journaling filesystem", Some journaling filesystems can be _worse_ than non-journaled. If the recovery mechanism of the JFS is to "aggressively" go to the journal, journal mis-reads can _toast_ a filesystem. I'll take a full

newbie: WINE / Windows / Office Question
WINE users: Hi, I am new to wine, and am getting ready to try to test it and get started. These questions may seem basic, but any assistance would be well appreciated. a) What configuration file (basic or standard) do I need to bring it up? b) I have Mandrake 8.1, and I typed "wine" and got a response back about command line options, so I beleive it to be installed, any idea what

Arbitrarily nesting some attributes in rabl
Hi, I''m designing a new API for my project, and I want to return objects that have nested children as json. For that purpose i''ve decided to use RABL. I want the client side to be able to understand whether the object is valid, and if not which fields are missing in order to save it correctly. The design I thought of should include some fields as optional, under an optional

nightmare scenario
Hi All, I am trying to test an upgrade to the operating system on my file server. I am going from RHEL 5 32-bit to Debian 7.8 64-bit. Samba is also being moved from 3.0.33 to 3.6.6. My initial attempt on an existing Debian 7.8 machine seems to work fine. I am able to smbclient with an LDAP user and see the shares. A fresh install of Debian on another test machine is where the nightmare

password server vs. passdb
Hi, Is it possible to run a non-PDC file server which references an authentication server via the "password server" directive as a BDC to the PDC? In short, I have one machine that serves as the LDAP auth server and PDC for my domain. I have another machine that is the file server and uses the aforementioned "password server" directive to authenticate users. Now, I would
