Linux to Linux with Samba?
Is it possible to allow two Linux computers to browse each other in a manner similar to the way a winbox and browse a Linux box with Samba? Ya know, like the network neighborhood thing, not the smbclient get put thing? Thanks

Samba 2.0.3 and NT/9x
Dear all, I recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.3 and read the doc files about NT machines because I cannot connect to the Samba server. In the WinNT.txt file there is the following proposal: [ --- Start of pasted text --- ] The following registry entry change will re-enable clear text password handling: Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry:

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox, but they can't see each other. Here's my setup: Winboxes Linbox Win2k -

Problem with a program called winbox
This winbox application is one that I use to manage routers for myself and my customers, so it is unlikely that there are many others trying to use it. I have used this program (through several versions of the program itself) on my Fedora laptop from FC8 all the way to Fedora 14. I don't know what wine versions that spans, but it's over 5 years and it has worked flawlessly. When I first

INFO Request: Samba PDC, Windows NT4 Style, Failure to Add Trusted Machine
Here's my document reference point: http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html#machine-trust-accounts I've had some moderate success setting up this Samba network. But, it's failing at adding a Windows XP Pro machine to the trusted machine list, or it's disallowing it to log in. This explanation is as complete as I can make it, so it will be

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks - I'm having an issue here. I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons). I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server. The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified all of my WINS servers in

Local library on Windoze.
I'm mystified by a Windoze ``phenomenon'' which has just bitten me. I have a laptop which boots either Windoze or Linux; I (sad to say) need the Windoze OS for teaching purposes. I have R 1.9.1 installed on the laptop in the Windoze OS. Just now I decided to install, under the Windoze version of R, a library (``Misc'') of some local functions that I have collected over the

Logon errors
Hello all, This my first mail in this list. We have succesfully setup a samba server at our 1st attempt, next we go in another site and try the same things but now it seems we got it all wrong! The facts: we have a linuxbox (named enlogic) (REdHat 7, kernel 2.2.18, samba 2.0.7)and one winbox win98se (named ndemou). Our workgroup is localenlogic. No other PC (not even a Hub because we've

flac metadata
So I've just ripped my entire 600 CD collection to flac format (200gigs worth) with vorbis comments in the flac metadata. But my gripe is that neither Winamp nor XMMS's flac plug-ins seem to have the ability to read the vorbis comment from the metadata. Are there any flac players for windoze or linux that can access the metadata? Or do i have to add redundant ID3 tags to all my flac

smbmount questions
Howdy all: I'm trying to use smbmount to mount a win9x share and copy some files for backup, eventually to run as a script invoked via cron. I have RH6.1/samba 2.0.5a, and the windoze box is win95b. If I do the standard mount (smbmount //winbox/backup /mnt/smb04) I have to be root. Also, after it's mounted, I can't create any files there as a normal user (even though the

NetBios name resolution from WINDOWS
Hi, I've been following a similar and current thread about name resolution from LINUX side. I have exactly the opposite problem (running ubuntu 7.10 on a network with a mixture ubuntu 6.06, WinXP and WinVista boxes) The winboxes cannot see or mount this 7.10 box I can mount WinPC shares on this 7.10 box. I was wondering about firewalls, but I can ping this 7.10 from the WinBox by IP address

Mounting cifs shares by non-root users on CentOS 4.6
I'm trying to set up mounting of a Windows share for non-root users via /etc/fstab on a CentOS 4.6 box - I've followed the instructions at: <http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/WindowsShares> Using something like the /etc/fstab example given in the wiki page (with, of course, using a valid share, username and password for my set up): //winbox/getme /mnt/win cifs

.Rprofile under Windoze.
I am (for my sins) having to do some work using R under Windoze. I wanted to set up a .Rprofile to control my set-up. The docs on .Rprofile say that it can/should be placed in ``the user's home directory''. ``An Introduction to R'' observes lucidly that this concept needs to be clarified under Windoze. Following the suggestions in An Introduction to R, I tried putting a

Problem with installing home-made package under Windoze.
I am using/trying to use R 2.2.0. I have created a package of ``supplementary'' time series functions for use by my students in a time series course. The package involves only raw R code; no dynamic loading to complicate matters. I need to install this package in a location on a local area network where the students can access it under Windoze. In the past I learned that I could do

Server v. Workstation installation
Hopefully someone can help me. I've been running a windows 2000 Workstation and Server. This spring I added a Linux workstation (Red Hat 7.2 - Samba 2.2.3a) to the network. Took some work but that is running fine. smb.conf seems to be giving me what I want. LAN addresses are assigned with DHCP. I have had several people tell me that they have a network running with static addresses. I
