Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module
and assigned IP) with samba?
Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made
it work? FAQs

Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a
jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over
the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find
anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the
inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a.

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a
Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end.
The SAMBA print command I currently use is:
print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \
lpr -P %p %s ; \
rm %s
;
These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will

LP print service stalls
Hi All,
When our server receives simultaneous print jobs from 2 or more clients, the print service stalls and I have to manually restart it (lpsched).
I am running Samba 2.0.4b under Solaris 2.5.1 on a SPARC 20 and I'm using system V printing. The printers are connected to the ethernet using HP Jetdirect cards and administered by jetadmin on the Sun box.
Any ideas on how I could troubleshoot

HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello,
I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers.
I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba.
I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

Network printer question
Howdy Folks:
This may be slightly (but not entirely) off-topic for this list,
but I'm sure there are some real gurus out there who should know
this (and I've seen a number of related questions) so here goes:
We just got a new HP8100DN printer. The guy didn't want to let me
do the samba printserver thing, nor did he put it on a windoze box -
he put it directly on the network

Cups printing on Samba 3.0.1 from Win2000 SP4
I have a samba based domain controller with a CUPS printer working fine.

Small/Medium Samba Install
I am currently researching the possibility of slowly moving an existing
Novell network [with all Windows clients except mine :)] to something
Linux based. I have about 900 clients that would be slowly migrated if
this whole thing is feasible. The version of NetWare we are using now is
no longer "officially supported" from Novell, so it is becoming more and
more difficult to successfully

JetDirect
Hi,
WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now.
The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago
(within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a
time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you
_MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??)
This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

Trouble with CUPS/SAMBA
Hi all,
I'm new to this list, as to SAMBA, and I'm
struggling with getting a printer to work
as a shared printer in a Windows network
with a redhat 9 server.
The printer is a HP 4550 Color LaserJet, installed
with CUPS to the server, via JetDirect (port 9100).
It prints testpages fine from the Linux-server. It
was installed with the install-printer-utility in
RedHat9.
I have then shared

Windows95 ARPing like crazy
Hi again,
I realize this is generally not the place for this question but this is
always where the answers are so here goes. We have a couple of win95 Pcs that
regularly go nuts and arp foreach IP address on their subnet. The resulting
broadcast storm is make even worse because of the inability of our net. admin.
to 1) explain it 2) contain it 3) fix it (not too bright).
I checked the registry

I can't get Broadcast packets?
Hello, where is the FAQ on networking(Broadcast probes for hpjetadmin
and other lowlevel hocus pockus) in wine, Half-Life and hpjetadmin don't
seem to send probe/broadcast packets.
I have tryed as a user and as root /w no change in my findings. Other
PCs on the net don't show traffic in there tcpdump logs.
It seams that jetadmin.exe dose not allow you to key in an IP(Currently

Samba 3 and mounting NT share on Linux box
Hello everyone,
I used to be able to mount an MS NT4 DOMAIN share from a machine
running RedHat 9 (Samba v2.2.7a), but after upgrading to WHEL (also
tried with SuSE 9.1/kernel 2.6.x running Samba 3 and it appears to have
the same problem) (Samba v3.0.4) my samba mount script will no longer
work. It successfully mounts the share but I get permission denied
errors when attempting to ls -l ,

Slow printing to HP jetdirect from cups
I've googled for this and poked around linuxprinting.org, but couldn't
find anything helpful.
I have a CentOS 5 server with an HP LaserJet 4 attached via JetDirect
with the hplip driver. The problem is that when I have multiple print
jobs in the queue, there is a delay of about 15 seconds between each
job. This gets very annoying when there are 10-15 one-page jobs in the
queue.

printer giving Access Denied
I have 2 printer queues setup on my samba 3.0.6 NT4-style PDC. About a month
ago, one of them stopped working due to an issue with CUPS. After restarting
CUPS, printing to that share was giving Access Denied. From a windows box, I was
able to add drivers and set default print settings as a domain administrator but
I still couldn't print. I created a new printer share pointing at the same

So, shouldn't winbind_lookup_sid() be succeeding. Should I be
trying to track the failure in that code?
In case it's helpful, ldd /usr/sbin/smbd shows:

NDPS or JetDirect Printing RH 7.1 Wine 082002
Anyone manage to print to an NDPS printer. The Server
is NW5 and there is no Bindery context or ques. When
trying to print a test page I just get and error
saying there was an error.
I could print as a JetDirect que, but I can't seem to
get it to work. I put in the IP address and can ping
it, I just can't print to it. It asks for a Que name
but I am not sure what to put in for a
