Upgrade question
Hi:
I want to upgrade a Fedora Core 1 Linux machine that is running Samba
3.0.2a to 3.0.5. Initially, I compiled the 3.0.2a source, with
defaults, and installed. The installation resides in /usr/local/samba.
Can I download the 3.0.5 source, compile and install without breaking
anything? Will the configuration be broken? Does anyone know a way to
do this cleanly?
Anyone's help is

couple of questions about 3.0 alpha
Hi there,
Sorry to possibly rehash stuff that's already been answered, I'm new to the list. I've recently installed 3.0alpha23-0 because of it's superior group mapping (over 2.2). I'm running a PDC on Debian Woody. I'm also using the tdb backend as ldap is too big a bite to chew for me for now. Things are working well for basic shares, but I want to get into setting

XP Pro SP1a login problem
Wondering if anyone can help.
Here is my situation, I have a RH 7.3 machine running a compiled from source
rpm version of samba 2.2.7.
We have been a win98se (which works great) shop for sometime but are
migrating to XP Pro machines slowly.
I can get the XP machine to join the domain (and the machine account is
created in both the /etc/passwd and /etc/samba/smbpasswd file) but when I
reboot and

XP SP1a can join domain but not log in.
I've posted this before but had to leave town and wasn't able to follow
up... I'm still having this problem. Here is what is in the logs when I try
and log in.

POSIX to NT ACL bug
Hello
recently I set up XFS share under samba , and played from Win2K
with ACL entries of shared files,
and noticed that
Win2K never DENY ACL entries ,
so for example for a XFS file with acl:
# owner: a
user::r--
group::rwx
other::rwx
Win2K security tab shows for user "a":
Read & exec = <nothing here>
Read = Allowed
Write = <nothing

ext3 and 2.4.x kernels
Dear list readers -
it was brought to my attention that during the upgrade of a server to rh7.2,
and selecting the ext3 migration works well with 1 exception that i need
verified if i could please. i heard that once you migrate to ext3, you may
no longer do a kernel upgrade without downgrading to ext2 and then putting
the kernel or AC kernel in place 'patched'. What i need to know

please help diagnosing "ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet"
Hi,
I run a small system with an older version of shorewall (1.4.2). It has been extremely solid for a long time.
But recently I have noticed the connection table filling up, which has never happened before. My guess is that the box is getting hit with floods.
The system only has 64M of ram and the conntrack_max is set to 4096 based on the ram. I have temporarily increased it to 8192 so that it

sambaLogonHours and timezones
Hi guys/girls,
How are you keeping ?
A while ago I mentioned a problem that I'm picking up with Samba with
OpenLDAP and the "logon hours" restrictions which are implemented via the NT
4.0 User Manager.
Basically my problem was that users were unable to login 2 hours before the
actual restriction should kick in.
At the time I thought that perhaps the problem was caused by

Ok, very frustrated after spending most of the day onthe * irc channel
with little to no help. Mostly just a bunch of crap about being a
newbie, going and reading voip-info.org. etc.
Despite me doing all that already.
My situation is not good but here it is. Hurricane came through, power
spikes killed PBX. Just trying to replace it affordable and possibly
with a few more features.

acl problem
Hello
I have samba (2.2.7a) shares on linux (rh 7 & 9) servers with posix-acl
(both kernel (2.4.19/ext2 and 2.4.20/xfs) and samba enabled) and an nt 4 PDC.
works fine except that I can't change acl of a file/dir if i'm not the
owner, thought i'm in a group that has write access to the file/dir
I set the "dos filemode = yes" as told in "man smb.conf", but it

I have download the latest version samba-3.0.13-1.src.rpm, and I have make
followings changes:
Rpm -i samba-3.0.13-1.src.rpm, so I have created the SPEC file.
I have added --with-acl-support in the CFLAGS section in the SPEC file.

make ldd /usr/sbin/smbd, I can't see libattr and libacl

configure issue when libattr is in a non-standard location?
Hi,
Apologies if I'm missing anything or this has already been discussed. I
did try looking at the bug list and mailing list archives before sending
this. Plus it's my first time posting.
I am trying to compile rsync (v3.1.0) on a Synology NAS with ACL support.
Why am I doing this? I have files that have extended ACLs that need to
be preserved when another filesystem is rsync'd
