rsync: future of the --server option
Hello list members, I notice here that the --server option is listed as undocumented. http://rsync.samba.org/rsync/fom-serve/cache/88.html My question is that the --server option is not documented, and I'd like not to build functionality into one of my systems without trusting that it will be there in the future. I was able to find the --server option simply by watching the rsync entries

RE: LARTC digest, Vol 1 #1564 - 6 msgs
Martin, If I understand whay you are suggesting, there is a problem in your design: It will only work if you use Hide NAT. The problem is that the ip_src == IP0 rule is wrong: The ip_src is not changed by the router and it is not equal to the IP of any of the machine interfaces. Can you think of a solution that will work in the following reasonabl scenario: Lets say I have two T1 internet

Hello all, This is just a self-aggrandizing note to inform you all that my rather brief introduction to traffic control using tcng and HTB is available now on TLDP. http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Traffic-Control-tcng-HTB-HOWTO/ I welcome any criticism. -Martin -- Martin A. RPDB && routing locally generated (and marked) traffic
Hello all, I''m using iproute2 + ipchains and have a question about locally generated packets. I have noticed that I have no problem marking packets in the input chain from sources other than my router. These packets are marked and routed exactly as I expect. Now supposing I want to mark particular outbound packets which are locally generated. The only solution I have found so far

request for review of linux traffic control diagram
Hello LARTC readers, I have completed a generic diagram of a linux traffic control scenario with HTB. I believe that the diagram is substantially accurate, although I''d like feedback from others. I will (eventually) be annotating the diagram in a separate HTML page, and would welcome any suggestions for annotations. Naturally, the annotation will have to cover some of the key

newer iproute2: no support for "ip link set dev $DEV promisc on"
Greetings all, I have tried to find a discussion of the removal of support for the PROMISC interface flag with the iproute2 tools. - it used to work (iproute2-2.2.4-$ANCIENT) - there''s a comment about it in the iproute docs [0] - (un-)setting the flag with ifconfig still works Can anybody point me to the discussion (linux-net, maybe?) where support for setting the PROMISC flag

conditional routing based on tos/fwmark not working with ipsec
Hello all, I am working with kernel 2.2.20 with the necessary options configured into the kernel to support all of the wonderfully fancy routing features: - routing based on ToS - routing based on fwmark - multiple routing tables This same kernel is in use elsewhere, and is routing based on fwmark with success. This leads me to believe that my kernel is OK and that I have another

rp_filter and fib_validate_source sequence in KPTD
Hello all, My question: - - - - - - - Does anybody know when the reverse path filtering occurs as the packet traverses the kernel? Does it happen before NF_IP_PRE_ROUTING (PREROUTING) or not? Does it only happen at route selection time? What I have tried to do to find the answer: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I find a posting (from many years ago) [0], which suggests that this

the routing cache and route selection; is this correct?
Hello all, I do not read C very well (especially kernel C). Though I have tried to muddle my way through an understanding of what''s going on in fib_hash.c, fib_rules.c, and route.c, I have not succeeded to my satisfaction, hence my post. I''m trying to document the general process of route selection, and have come up with the following overview. Could somebody point out any

SMB signing.
Hi all, Is anyone using Windows SMB signing in a production environment ? This is the signing proceedure created by setting the Registry keys EnableSecuritySignature:1, RequireSecuritySignature: 1 in the lanmanserver and lanmanworkstation parameters. I'm playing with implementing this in Samba for 3.0, but am finding that it doesn't seem to work when mixing Windows NT or Windows 2000

"Delayed Write Failed" and other similar errors on Windows machines
I am experiencing an error which has been reported on the internet since Samba 2.2.7 and Windows 2000. There are many suggestions as to the cause of this problem, but no working solutions that I've been able to find. I've already invested two weeks on this problem. I was running Samba 3.0.7 under Mandrake for the last year, and this problem was not present. Because Mandrake had other

iproute2: gatewayed routes in ancillary tables
Hello all, Tomas Bonnedahl and I recently corresponded about a rather odd behaviour with routes in ancillary routing tables. We both receive a "Network is unreachable" error when we try to add gatewayed routes to ancillary tables and the main routing table does not contain an entry for the gateway IP. It seems that unless a route to the gateway IP exists in the main routing table, I

WG: Samba 2.2.7a and XP pro
Dear Michael, I just have the same problem you have with samba 2.2.3a on a Suse 8.0 machine and win xp pro. Besides I performed all the steps below. >From my postings I learned that the prob might have something to do with a wrong mapping in smbusers file. It seems to me that the workstation account is mapped to user nobody. Up to now I was not able to solve the prob. Do you have any ideas

samba is extremly slow! (a bit long)
Hello Everybody. First of all sorry for my bed english. I am in a very big trouble. I migrated our Novell to samba 3.0.2a a week ago. It works, but it is very-very slow! The novell is on a PII 233Mhz/384MB SDRAM/SCSI2 hdds, the samba is on PIV 2Ghz/1GB DDRRAM/SCSI UW320 hdds in raid5, and the novell is much-much faster! I have read the archive for long days, but everything I founded about

"Save As" fails to Samba drive, works on Win95, NT, Novell ...
Hi -- I originally posted the following message about 2 weeks ago -- I don't mean to annoy but really need to solve this problem - if anyone can shed any light on the issue I'd greatly appreciate it. Since the original post, we've run the application with its data on network drives shared from 95, NT, and Novell, and all work fine, as does saving locally. It only fails on a

problems with "Save As" in BNA Income Tax Planner for Windows
Hi - A client reported this morning that the "Save As" function in some tax planning software they use "didn't work with the new server" (Samba 1.9.17p2 on intel/linux v 2.0.30). All client machines are Win95 OSR2. Essentially, when you type a name in the save as dialog and press enter, a backslash is added to the end of the new filename (in the dialog, that is),

WinXP. Samba and Router connection problem
Hi, I have samba-2.2.8 installed on Slackware 9.0. I'm able to use smbclient from this linux machine to access all the services defined in smb.conf. I installed the WinXP_SignOrSeal.reg patch to my WinXP Pro machine. When I attempt to access samba services from the WinXP PC, it fails: c:> net use L: \\MYLINUX\tmp System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found. I have
