You can find my problems and results at [0]. What is really strange for me is that syslinux worked once, but not anymore. Perhaps you can give me you comment on

pseudo incremental backup solution
Hello dear list! Just wanted to tell you that there's a simple and somehow smart backup solution using rsync named ccollect [0]. It uses the hardlink feature of rsync to create fullbackups with only minor size differences (it uesd cp -al and pax before). I would be happy for any critic about the software, the documentation the configuration style (cconfig [1]) and the idea itself. Sincerly

Puppet bootstrap: via cdist
Good morning puppets, as stated for reallife, "one always meets more than one time", this is true for puppet and me: Although I''m migrating away from puppet [0] to cdist [1], a customer requests a new puppet installation. This brings me again to the question on how to bootstrap a new puppet infrastructure, which we did with a shell script or a Debian package and then running

Using --link-dest= multiple times - performance?
Hello guys! I'm thinking about using rsync with multiple times --link-dest= specified in ccollect [0]. Now I'm wondering about the performance and memory usage: - How much more memory will rsync use for every --link-dest= parameter? - How heavy do you expect it to influence performance with every additional --link-dest= parameter? In general I think that rsync could either - use

Hello guys! I'm doing a middle scale backup job using ccollect [0], which uses rsyn, with about 50 servers, each about 1-10 GiB changes per day and have some problems, that servers do not finish their backup completly: [host1.backup] Read from remote host host1.backup: Connection reset by peer [host1.backup] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (41306592 bytes received so far) [receiver]

2.2.7a securtiy 'server' auth. problems
Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before, but as far as I could see there's no similar entry in the archive. I'm using version 2.2.7a on a HP machine running HP-UX 11.11. The binaries have been created for PA-RISC 2.0 supporting 64Bit mode. The SAMBA has been configured to use securty = server. Password servers has been 'defined'. For a certain user (Service account used to

run programs .exe from cdrom/dvd
Some of my programs need to be starting from cdrom or dvd after execution of the local .exe from harddisc. How is the proceeding to achieve a running program from cdrom/dvd? The link from .wine/windos/dosdevices to the cdrom and dvd is already established and works. May it's necessary to write a shell script to run after start from cdrom/dvd. On the other hand, may it would help to make a copy

Hello, when i compiled latest linux 2.6.4 kernel source with gcc 3.3.2 on Linux/x86, i got a few warnings about varaibles beeing compared against constants where the range of the variable is so that the expression is always constant. The explicit comparison has to do with the code for high-uid and gid sheme. attached you will find a diff which does eliminate this error message by introducing an

ipconfig does not time out (klibc-utils)
Package: klibc-utils Version: 1.5.15-1 Hello! I'm trying to boot Debian from a different nic than the first one. After some digging into klibc and initramfs, it seems like DEVICE=all in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is near a solution (I cannot reliable tell, which name the nic has, it may be eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3, ...; as I've machines with one to four nics). /scripts/functions

Problem disablin computer objects
I have many computers in my domain with different operating systems such as Windos XP, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 1404, I disable a computer with windows, then restart the computer, but I can log on to the computer with a user who has never logged on it. Do this for a computer with ubuntu and then it works, do not let me login with the user, because the computer is disabled. I use the ADUC tool to

Adding SNI support to SSH
Good morning, I was wondering what you think about SNI (server name indication) support to OpenSSH? Background: SSH is one of the rare protocols in the data center that cannot be easily load balanced, proxied or made highly available. If the ssh client would indicate to which host it wants to connect to, a proxy or load balancer could easily be implemented. While this is an obvious feature for

WineLib some questions...
Hello everyone. I don't know if this was ever asked, if so sorry. 1.Let's assume we have a source code from some old Windos program for example: a game that useed D3D6, and was released around year 2000, we know that this program works perfectly under wine - am I correct in assuming, that - with the use of winelib - we could compile the source, and create a Linux/BSD/Solaris/whatever

delay in utmpx entry when users logs out of samba domain
Hi, I'm using the system accounting functionallity of Samba 2.2.6. Everything is working fine and dandy except that there is a lag between when a user logs out of a Windos 2000 Domain member, the 'who' command still lists the user as logged on for the next 20 - 30 seconds. Does anyone know what causes this? Can I increase the frequency of utmpx updates? Can someone point me to an

Samba4 server is not accessible for logon from Windows 2008R2 SP1.
There is Samba4 4.7.2 acting as standalone server on Ubuntu 14.04.x64. Also there is Windwos 2008R2 SP1 acting as DC in the same network. And also Windows XP/7 are in this network. Logon to Samba4 is accessible from Windows XP and Windowx 7 but not accessible from Windos 2008R2. As logon to Windows clients is accessible from Windows 2008R2. Username and password is asked by Samba and provided from
