Simple Samba
I have simple needs, as I am my only user. I am in transition between
Linux and Windows. I need to get Samba running. I DO NOT need any
security between machines (except to the internet.) I have certain
hardware requirements that forces me to keep Windows a little longer,
some day soon I will be able to afford to make the last changes. In the
mean time I need to move and store my "My

Best way to drop avg packet size?
I am testing VoIP via SIP on my local network and despite a careful
setup to prioritise the voip packets I am still getting some small
amounts of breakup when the system is under stress.
I already my patches to HTB to get it to understand ADSL bandwidth (so I
know that this is being accounted for OK), and also with the HTB code
patched to not use "hysterisis". It''s also

Migration to Samba 4
Hello,
Currently have (and working for years) a Samba 3 PDC that also acts as
a file server and a print server. Would like to migrate the DC duties
only (at this time) to a Samba 4 AD on a new box without disturbing
user profiles (all SIDs, etc. remain the same), domain member joins
etc. Basically somewhat like an upgrade but on a new box with a new
name and then demoting the old PDC to a member

CDR unanswered setting
?
Hi,
From asterisk 1.8, the CDR table is not logging the unanswered or extn busy calls which hit while in the queue. I am talking about this setting in the cdr.conf :
; In brief, this option controls the reporting of unanswered calls which only have an A
; party. Calls which get offered to an outgoing line, but are unanswered, are still
; logged, and that is the intended behaviour. (It also

Asterisk Forums needs your input (http://asterisk.xvoip.com)
Hello all,
Our Asterisk unofficial online forums (http://asterisk.xvoip.com) are
moving forward and are alive.
Thanks to all Asterisk guru's who helped to achieve it. Everyday more and
more new members are joining this community, however not everyone is
using mailing list or knows how to use IRC, this is why they are coming
to web-based forums. We believe that together with Digiums

md raid6 recommended?
I notice that raid6 is recommended in the manual. eg. "...RAID6 is a must."
http://manual.lustre.org/manual/LustreManual16_HTML/DynamicHTML-11-1.html
which I found a bit surprising given that in Dec ''06 Peter Braam said
on this list "Some of our customers experienced data corruption in the
RAID6 layer.", and recommending the CFS optimised md raid5 path through

:( I'm really sorry. To be honest, looking at those patches, I'm not
entirely surprised though. Consider the following a "meta"-review:
First off, is chandlerc *really* the only person who can review these
changes? It seems unwise to bottleneck a patch on one

samba-2.2.2 and Linux 2.2.20 replacing Win2K?
Hi there,
I was wondering if you could give me some pointers as to how to get rid of the
spooge of microsoft from our office, and have samba-2.2.2 assuming file sharing
duties (read this as the Boss isn't happy with all the win2K crashes on the
NIC's)
The machine is a Pent-III 850Mhz w/256MB, dual NIC's, and 2 HD's (IDE) with
/dev/hda1 being where the OS is stored, and /dev/hdb1

open source data mining on tap anyone ?
http://decisionstats.com/2008/ohri/
Some time back, I had created a framework for data mining through on demand
cloud computing. This is the next version- it is free to use for all, with
only authorship credit back to me…………..
NOTE - i DO retain authorship credit rights (even though it is a GPL
framework) for free to anyone to use commercially
It tries to do away with fixed server ,desktop

CDR Unanswered calls
Dear friends,
?
I am not able to capture the CDR records for unanswered calls. Only one record per call is coming in the CDR table. In the cdr.conf, I have enabled it by setting :
unanswered = yes

KVM VM traffic over host's Tinc VPN
Hello Tinc list!
I'm trying to set up a Tinc VPN between two KVM host machines so that a
VM on one host can communicate with a VM on the other host. While I do
have a good bit of experience with virtualization, I'm not a
particularly savvy network guy, so this is proving to be a pretty big
challenge.
Requirements:
* ALL VM network traffic must be secure.
* VMs on one host must be

Please help me decipher a two-packet NetBT conversation...
My clients are Windows XP SP1 and SP2, members of a Samba-PDC NT domain
(tested 3.0.7 and 3.0.10, same result). Attached is ethereal output
of a two packet client-server exchange that takes place when an offline
files sync is done. SP1 quickly does this exchange twice - first
broadcast, then unicast (as attached) and goes on its way. SP2 tries,
pauses many seconds, tries again, finally

[PATCH] pm/fan: drop the fan lock in fan_update() before rescheduling
From: Martin Peres <martin.peres at labri.fr>
This should fix a deadlock that has been reported to us where fan_update()
would hold the fan lock and try to grab the alarm_program_lock to reschedule
an update. On an other CPU, the alarm_program_lock would have been taken
before calling fan_update(), leading to a deadlock.

Operation failed: such conntrack doesn''t exist - when it does?
Hi gurus I want to destroy all state table entries/reset all connections
for a particular client. When I issue conntrack -L -s <ip number>, it
lists loads of state entries. When I issue conntrack -D -s <same ip
number> it answers "NFNETLINK answers: No such file or directory
Operation failed: such conntrack doesn''t exist."
I have googled the problem, but can
