Moterboard help Please
All,
I have been terribly pleased with openbsd 3.2 I was using it as a
mail/samba server with postifx on a pentium pro 200 with 1 gig of
memory. Well I wanted to add a larger harddrive than what I have in it
now only 6.4 gig. Well the machine would not see it and for some reason
after hours and hours of trying I can't get a tekram 395UW and a 18gig
scsi to be the boot drive and having failed

Help with Winbind
I've been trying for weeks to get winbind working with RedHat Linux 8.0.
I've got everything setup per the winbind docs on
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND.
I've successfully joined my NT4 domain with smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U
Administrator. Running wbinfo -u returns my domain user list, as well as
wbinfo -g returning my domain groups. getent

Change somebody else's domain password?
Hi,
I am trying to find a way to change NT4 domain password from linux.
smbpasswd works fine if you know user's old password but I am looking for a
way to connect to PDC using all-mighty Administrator credentials and change
other user's password.
I have searched all over the web in vain. Have anybody done that? How?
Maybe using tools other than Samba?
Thanks a lot,
Sergei

Winxp netlogon script
Hi all,
I am having problems running a logon script from a Winxp pro client. It
appears that the logon script is not being run at all. Win98 runs the
script fine, but none of the Winxp pro clients are currently running it.
I am running RedHat 7.1 with Samba version 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix.
My smb.conf is as follows:
[global]
netbios name = LOKKI
server string = Lokki PDC

Macintosh OS 9.2 and SMB Networks
Some use Dave (http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html) or DoubleTalk
(http://www.connectix.com/products/dt.html). However, we use Netatalk
(http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/) successfully to share the Unix/Samba file
system with our Mac clients. Is there any reason you can't use Netatalk?

time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I
have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but
my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command
manually logged in as a domain user:
net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3
but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied".
Any ideas?

win2k and lost shares [was:Re: unknown %a]
Hi Dietrich,
So to make sure I understand:
1.User franz logs in.
2.user franz verifies the shares exist (HOW?)
do they show up in "My Network Places", or does he do a 'net view
\\sambaserver'
or what?
3.a couple of minutes later, user franz does step #2 (which is what,
EXACTLY), and
cannot see the three shares included by smb.conf.franz.

histogram
Hi all,
I have a question about hist()
1)
> t1 <- hist(c(1,2,3,4,5))
> t1
$breaks
[1] 1 2 3 4 5
$counts
[1] 2 1 1 1
why is there 2 counts for 1? And should the counts be '1 1 1 1 1' ?
Is there any other function to count frequency of discrete data?
Thanks.

New Users wont authenticate.
Im using Samba 2.2.7a on my RH7.3 box. The 3 users I have had on the system
work flawlessly, but when I add a new user (userconf, adduser, smbpasswd
-a) the system takes the user, it exists in both PSSWD files, but won't
allow logging on from the Win9x box.
I look in /var/log/messages and it doesn't tell me anything, nor do my
etc/samba/log.smbd-nmbd files, is there a particular switch

Is it possible to specify Username/Password in a UNC when connecting to a samba server from W2K?
Hi,
Not a Samba question specifically, so please forgive me, but somewhat
related...
I am trying to automate some tasks in a secure environment (restricted
ipsec vpn). Running Windows 2000 (and XP, etc), I would like to be able
to access a Samba server using the UNC, but specify a username/password
combination as well.
You know, in Windows Explorer it allows you to "Connect using a

accessing windows files systems from unix side
Samba Team,
I am running samba 2.0 on a Solaris Unix system. We have about 9 Unix systems
and 3 PCs. Samba works great from Windows machines to access files on all other
computers on the network. Is there a way to access the file systems on the PCs
from the Unix machines? For example should I be able to 'cd' to a PC cdrive?
Where can I find documentation on this?

disabling swat during compile
Howdy folks, I am compiling 2.2.8 from source on a Caldera Openlinux 2.3 box
to replace the 2.0.x version that is there. I do NOT want to use swat at all.
How do I stop it from being compiled/installed? The only swat related
configure switch I could find is where to put the swat stuff, but nothing to
disable it period.
TIA

Can't login from Xbox - No session setup?
Hello.
I'm having problems connecting to a Samba 2.2.7 share from my Xbox with
Xbox Media Player (XBMP) 2.3.
In the config file of XBMP, I added an entry which should make XBMP
connect to a SMB share on my Samba server. I think, I've got everything
setup correctly - according to the docs.
However, when I try to connect, I don't see anything on the Xbox.
