samba NT ACL support problem?
Recently, a problem developed in storing IE5's Temporary Internet Files on our samba exported network scratch space. In tracking it down, I found that the Win2k client attempts to set the ACL of the file "Content.IE5/index.dat". However, the this call ends up setting the mode of index.dat to 0407 (-r-----rwx), thus making the file unmodifiable to the user who created it. (This in

[OT] DeleteRoamingCache=1 doesn't work
I have a Samba server which I set so that Windows clients have roaming profiles. It works but when the user logs off, his personal folder in C:\Documents and Settings remains there, although i created the key DeleteRoamingCache (as a DWORD) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon and set it to 1. It seems a problem with the Windows client, but I'm not

Best way to migrate from Qpopper to Dovecot
Hi List, what do you think is the best way to migrate (to a new maschine) round about 30000 mboxes (Qpopper) with an amount of 43Gigs data, to maildir format (Dovecot). I think there are two ways: 1. - stop services (smtp and pop3) on the old maschine - copy the mboxes to the new maschine - run a conversion script (for excample: "Perfect_maildir" http://perfectmaildir.home-dn.net/)

getting started with wine on debian and W2K
Dear All Thanks for your comments. I have downloaded and installed wine-20040121. Unfortunately things seem to have worsened. I installed wine with my Windows partition mounted umask=000, and used the Windows partition for the wine installation when prompted (sorry can't remember the prompt question wording). I didn't install & run winesetuptk as everything seemed ready to

net rpc vampire - cannot login to migrated computer accounts
Hello experts, I've migrated our NT4 domain to sambe 3.0.20b/ldap backend with "net rpc vampire", and nearly everything works as expected. But one big problem remains: it's not possible to login to the domains member maschines now, because "the domain is not available at the moment" (translated from german). After the maschine rejoined the samba domain, login

samba 3.5.6 as PDC & LDAP - roaming profile problem
Hi all; for few weeks I'm trying to implement a new samba PDC server for my school. It is based on debian squeeze and samba 3.5.6 with lDAP backend. I was able to join a computer into domain, LDAP is working, mapping home drive for users also. It seems that almost all works good but with one exeption. The one thing which is broken is roaming profile support. When user is logging into domain

Win2k Roaming Profiles problems under NTFS
Hi there! I have a Samba 2.2.2 PDC on linux 2.4.13 with ACL (acl.bestbits.at) support installed. There seems to be a problem with Roaming Profiles. Win2k with local NTFS filesystem will never delete roaming profiles (yes, I have regedited the DeleteRoamingCache to 1). In fact, any time TheUser logs back in, a new folder named TheUser.OURDOMAIN.??? (where ? is an integer) will be created,

Deleting Roaming Profiles
Hello, If you don?t want (Who wants ?) to save roaming profiles under Winnt\Profiles, than you have to change, or create (if not exist) a registry string: Run regedt32.exe and locate the key entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Add (or change) the following string: DeleteRoamingCache Standard value is 0, it has to be 1 All the Best. --

roaming profiles - filesyncing problem with 3.0.10
Since I upgraded from RedHat 9.0b / Samba 2.2.8 to Samba 3.0.10 I have problems with the roaming profiles of my students. Although the log-files show no errors at all, several users reports me that they are loosing files. One time I saw the problem myself, when a user logged in and had not a single file in her 'Personal Files' after logging out and logging in on the same host the whole

(no subject)
I have an issue with W2K/XP using Folder Redirection to a Samba homes share (or any share for that matter). This is only a problem when access?for a user is via an ACE (ACL) and not the traditional file system permissions. So for example (user is test in this example): # ls -ld History/ drwxrwx---+?? 3 root???? root???????? 4096 Apr 12 21:15 History/ # getfacl History # file: History # owner: root

samba upgrade 2.2.3 to 3.0.9 - profile not found
Hi, i'm working on a new maschine with Suse 9.3 and Samba 3.0.9 running. The system on the old Server is Suse 8.2 with Samba 2.2.3. Both sambas are running as PDC with roaming profiles. Both maschines and domains have identical sids. I installed Samba on the new server, configured it, copied some home directories including the profiles from the old maschine to the new server and added some

Samba 3.6.23 and Windows 7
After being content with an old laptop running XP for years, my job decided to provide me with a shiny new one running Windows 7 Professional. The biggest problem with this is that I can't get the Windows 7 box to login to my Samba NT4-style domain controller. I have upgraded samba from 3.0.33 to 3.6.23, and copied my smbpasswd file to where the new samba expects to find it in
