Re: Multiple client access same file
Ohh, hmm. I'll try it at work if I get some time and see what happens. I have a Samba benchmark I can run against one of our unused servers, and I'll try to have 16 "users" access the same iso copied and mounted twice, just as you're doing. I might not get time to do this next week, so in the mean time, a good troubleshooting technique is to strip any as many smb.conf

Problems running apps from Samba 2.0.0 share on NT 4.0
Ever since I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18 to 2.0.0, I've been having problems with applications started from a Samba share dying silently, or with an Illegal Instruction message, on NT 4.0 Workstation. Since the only configuration change has been the Samba upgrade, that would seem to be the orgin of the problem. Below is my smb.conf file, in case I have something configured (or not configured)

samba performance issue
Hi, I recently installed a new samba server to replace an older Novell machine. Now, we are having performance issues. I have installed many samba servers, and have not run into this problem before. Some background info: The server is an Athlon 1800+ w/ 512MB DDR RAM. We are using software raid on 80GB IDE ATA 100 drives with the VIA 82C3XX chipset. When mirroring the drives, we usually get

High load smbd processes
Hi all, Our system has just recently begun experiencing smbd processes comsuming enormous amounts of cpu time. I am totally unsure of the cause of this. Windows XP login issue
I've just joined the list and this is my first e-mail, I'm sure this has been answered many times. So if someone can direct me to the answer I would appreciate it. I have samba-2.2.7-3.7.2 installed on a RH7.3 server, not due for upgrade until later this year. I can get the windows 98 and windows 2000 PC to login, but cannot get the Windows XP PC to log in. NT domain: errors in diagnostic tests 3 and 7+
Hi, I have an NT domain to which I have added a Samba 2 server. I've successfully caused the Samba server to join the domain. My aim is to have shares which anyone in the domain can access without a password. However it is not working; either (a) the Windows 95/98 clients are being prompted for a password (and no password is accepted); or (b) they are getting "The share name was not

DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine. I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and find that it

Wine and winsock
Having gotten the latest CVS to build, I'm trying to get IE working again (yeah, yeah, I know...) I can get it to load, but then it doesn't seem to be able to make any network connections. I can't browse anything. It doesn't matter whether I use ip addresses or dns names. This was working on previous versions, but I can't quite figure out what changes broke this. Any help or

Simple Samba
I have simple needs, as I am my only user. I am in transition between Linux and Windows. I need to get Samba running. I DO NOT need any security between machines (except to the internet.) I have certain hardware requirements that forces me to keep Windows a little longer, some day soon I will be able to afford to make the last changes. In the mean time I need to move and store my "My

Does anyone have any tips? I keep getting the error (in a windows dialog) "This application requires the Windows installer to run" - I really don't want to reinstall Word 2000 and then apply all the

Adding a DVD Writer device
After my laptop corrupting dvd after dvd, I decided to plug in the dvd drive from my other PC, which broke down 2 months ago. I connected it through a USB SATA interface and since it?s the second drive, it?s under "/media/cdrom1/" now. However, Wine doesn?t detect the drive when I choose "Auto Detect", nor does it allow me to add an actual drive name when adding a new drive.

Kickstart problem.
I am trying to use kickstart for automated builds from a DVD. Some of the machines have DVD's drives and some have CDRom drives only. With the CDRom only machines I would like to plug in an external DVD drive via USB and use this to kickstart. The DVD only machines work correctly with a isolinux.cfg as label test kernel vmlinuz append initrd=initrd.img ramdisk_size=8192

I am new to Wine and really struggling. I'm trying to get DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter running on my Kubuntu 5.04. My system is current. I have a 2.8Mhz machine with 1Gb memory and lots of space on my 160Gb hard drive. I have a Plextor DVD+-RW and an HP CD-RW. They are /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd respectively.
