I'm having lots of hassles and troubles since I moved to 1.18p10: 1\ Why do I need a smbpasswd and have to have a user equivalent on the unix machine when an NT user wants to print via an smb printer? My NT/Win users shouldn't need to know anything about unix and I don't want to tell them "you have to log into my unix machine and invoke

Add Machine Failed
I know I am getting tiresome to this list, but I can't see what I am doing wrong, which is obviously something. I am new to samba as far as setting it up as a PDC. I am not having trouble accessing sanba shares when I set my computer to be part of a workgroup, but when I try to configure samba server as a PDC, i get the following message: The account used is a computer account. The mailbox.pst files are stored in everyones home directories that are located on a linux share. Before when people searched for a name it would take no time. Now it acts like on every search that anyone does or opening of a calendar, etc. it is

Hello Family, (smd.conf file attached) Having had great success with 2.2.2 and my Linux box and Windows-2000 machines I switched to CUPS and now can't print again having made some slight edits in my smb.conf file (attached) for the change to CUPS. Hello, I had samba working fine with RH6.0 but now I cannot get it to work... I cannot even see the SAMBA machine in my network neighbor hood. TCP/IP connectivity is fine... Password problems with Samba on Alpha system
We have tried a couple of versions of Samba on an DEC Alpha running Tru64. Most users can use this perfectly but a few get rejected at the password authentication, and get logged on as guest users. Machine is running NIS, and Makefile was generated automatically. Win98 and Win2000 machines have had the "plain text password" patch to the registry. Problem seems to lie on the server as

Samba won't allow PC connections
Hello list, I am at the hair pulling stage of this game right now. Having read through many of the posts, I still seem to be unable to get my samba server to allow anonymous connections ( or any connections for that matter ) from windows machines. All I want to do is have printers and one folder shared, all as guest accessable. I have made the security level = share and made the shares

proliferation of SAMBA links in W2K
Hi! I'm pretty new to using Samba and have come accross a puzzling problem that I cannot figure out with the documentation or Samba books... please forgive me if this has been discussed before in this forum, I have not seen such discussion. We have a customer that uses a script that basically maps to three samba shares, then uses the substitute command repeatedly. Every time a subst command

Samba NOT using WINS? (was: network is busy / login failures)
Ok folks, the saga continues, but this is an issue that I think should concern all Samba users/sysadmins. It appears to me that Samba is NOT communicating with the WINS server (at least not consistently) for authentication of login requests when a pc tries to get logged in and map a drive letter to a share. In smb.conf I have the following relevant entries: name resolve order = wins host bcast

Account Unknown for users with Samba 3.0.11/14
Hi, I've got a problem with a samba server I inherited which I can't solve. I think it's the configuration rather than the version because I have the same problem with a 3.0.14 and a 3.0.11 Samba server with almost identical configurations. Both authenticate against LDAP, one has an old smbpasswd file which should no longer be in use. The issue is that when I click

Security question about suspect logfile entries
Hello, in the last days I found some entries in nmb.log on one of my servers: process_node_status_request: status request for name *<00> from IP 195.232.44.19 0 on subnet REMOTE_BROADCAST_SUBNET - name not found. (repeated many times) The host on this ip is not exactly in my domain :-) # nslookup Default Name Server: localhost Address: 127.0.0.1 > set type=PTR > 195.232.44.190 Name

Strange access problems with hostname vs ip
I've recently installed and configured samba 2.2.7 on a Redhat 8.0 box. Samba is configured to use share level security and there is a single share which is public. When connecting to the machine by IP address (\\x.x.x.x\sharename) everything works fine. When I connect by hostname (\\hostname\sharename) I get "The account is not authorized to log in from this station." Things

Guest access under Win XP plus printing
Hi, I had Samba all working, but then I upgraded to samba 2.2.1a and windows from 98 to XP. Printing no longer works, and I don't think guest access works properly either. Probably for the same reason. In windows it appears that connection to the printer is ok, but when you print it goes in the windows print queue and never gets to the linux box. In printer setup it says lp on
