help Error with Cli_spoolss_notify.c in CUPS
Hello, I am getting this error when Win XP machines print to my SAMBA server. I think it is a compile issue, if so how do I recompile or get it in place. I used RPM to 'install' SAMBA. Anyone have any suggestions? I am using SAMBA 2.2.6a with CUPS 1.1.8 on Caldera OpenLINUX 3.1.1 Error: Jan 24 11:15:34 heatconlinux smbd[4787]: [2003/01/24 11:15:34, 0]

Realm = or workgroup = ?
I think samba is cool. I'm trying to understand the relationship between these 3 options: Realm = MYGROUP.COM Security = ADS Workgroup = MYGROUP And my samba file server is a member of AD My server is W3K Nothing seemed to work until I specified the realm Do I also NEED the workgroup parameter ? Shouldn't the workgroup and realm parameters exclusive from each other ? -aaron

/var/spool/samba retention period
It seems like the files sent to the samba spool and then over to CUPS seem to stay in the /var/spool/samba directory indefinately. Is there a fix to this via a configuration, or just setting up a cron job to purge? Thanks

Samba3.0Alpha21- error on logging in to KDC
Hi all, I have just downloaded and tested with the Samba3.0 Alpha21 Release. I want to try to create the server account in the active directory, however, when I logged in to the KDC by "/usr/kerberos/bin/kinit administrator@xxx.com", but error returned as "KDC has no support for encryptions type while getting the initial credentials" , then I can't go on for creating the

How can I restart samba?
I'm fiddling with the various configuration files to try and get Samba working - after making changes to various files I end up rebooting [shudder] the box to get the settings to take. I invoke the smbd, and nmbd binaries from a root bash command line, each with the "-D" option. I can't seem to send a "kill SIGHUP" command to the PID I read from a "ps -ex"

Problems loading printer list using Samba 2.2.7a with CUPS
I am using Samba to successfully load the printer list directly from CUPS with one fairly significant caveat. If a printer is added to CUPS while Samba is running there is apparently nothing I can do to have it visibly appear when doing a list of the services in Samba (such as with "smbclient -L"). This is also a problem if Samba starts before CUPS in the boot sequence. I find that

BUG?? - Samba 2.2.8a Number of Users in a Group Maxproblem (2.2.7a works, however)
Mr. Carter, I just tried the most current CVS head and IT DOES NOT FIX the problem. Can you guys look into this? Like I stated earlier, 2.2.7a works perfectly but I need to upgrade samba for security fixes, etc.. Thanks. Michael D. Using working devmode from windows clients on samba server?
Samba 2.2.7a (built from samba RPM's) with LPRng print subsystem. I've been having troubles with some print drivers which fail to work properly when uploaded to the samba server whether devmode gets left as null or a default devmode is used. Some drivers do not leave you in a position where you can "tickle" the driver to generate a devmode with page orientation etc before

Inefficient Winbind behavior? Not sure if it posted 1 st time.
Thanks for the response, Jerry. Is there a way for me to verify this is happening? Winbindd has been running for a few days now, and I just did a netstat and the only connections to a DC are to the off-site one, the PDC. Thanks. restrictions on folder length?
Greetings all, After migrating a few dozen people to our departmental mailserver, we've run into a problem with one user who makes extensive use of folders and nesting them. I've seen as many as 8 levels. The longest resulting folder name is 113 characters, which results in a total path length of 137 characters (/var/spool/mail/******). Their old mail server handled this fine, but

log.smbd says no hosts
Hello, all. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but when I view my log.smbd file, I see the following line: [2002/11/25 08:20:40, 3] lib/access.c:check_access(318) check_access: no hostnames in host allow/deny list. But looing in smb.conf I see hosts allow = 127.0.0.1 10.0.0. Am I looking in the wrong place or am I not understanding what's going on? Thanks, all
