please reply
3rd post on this issue - it would be great if a Samba person could please reply to the list or to me regarding this issue (since no other posts on the lists relevant to mac have addressed it) - ** if you don't beleive it's a bug or think there's nothing about samba itself that can be done, please say so and we'll be done. ** if you don't think it's an important enough

os X finder wonkiness
i would bet anything someone's already asked and had this answered, but since the archives of these listss aren't searchable, and since i couldn't find the info in the docs or elsewhere on net, here goes: i've got 3 shares active on a debian box, accessing them fine from an OS X g4 and 2 win 98 boxes (the were set up and configured via the samba web admin tool from a browser

NT username/password export
Sorry for all the newbie questions... I could have sworn I saw something about a utility that exports the SAM database from NT into Linux.. seems like it is the lego syndrome, saw it while doing WINBIND searches, can't find it elsewise...anyway...could someone point me in the right direction? I want to export my users from NT to linux with passwords....if that is impossible, I also have all

sort-of fix for net rpc vampire account creation
This patch allows net rpc vampire to create accounts in the same way that smbpasswd does, i.e. it will attempt to use the appropriate account creation function for the backend in use. From reading the comments on the top of the local_password_change function, either I shouldn't be going this route or local_password_change is due for some sort of change in status. The only major caveat I've

mounting smbfs...
Hi. I've been at it for a solid week now....trying to figure out how to mount a smbfs-resource at boot. See i need to do the following; mount -t smbfs //<machine_name>/<share> /home/<usr_name>/music ...only thing is, I have to run the cmd as a regular user. The easiest thing would offcourse be to have i run at when booting, but i don't know how to do that. Any help

rpcclient enumdrivers 3 times out on NT drivers
This is puzzling me (and hampering some work, slightly): NT4SP6 + full updates server, with some printers attached. "rpcclient -U admin%pass enumdrivers 2" server gives me a list of stuff like this: [Windows 4.0] Printer Driver Info 2: Version: [0] Driver Name: [HP LaserJet 5Si PCL 5e] Architecture: [Windows 4.0] Driver Path:

NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major Hardware failure.) How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S' from the new Samba DC? Samba and Windows 2000 Password Authentication
Is there a way to configure Samba so that all password authentication is done through the Windows domain controllers? As I understand it, the variable "encrypt passwords" must be set to yes if "security" is set to "domain". This causes Samba to reference the smbpasswd file, so if the W2K user's password on the domain controller is not the same as that in the

Virus
Someone (who is on my email address list) said I sent an email with an attachment saying something about "Here is a game, I hope you should like it." If you receive any emails from me with an attachment be sure not to open it. It's a virus of some sort. smbfs + large UID's
[ I'm not on this list, so please include me on the replies! ] Hi, I've discovered (at least for me and some colleagues;-) the following problem on Linux@x86 (2.4.*): When we try to mount FS's via smbfs with the option uid=<my_uid> this uid can only be 16bits wide:-( But we have uid's larger than 65536 which than end up beeing interpreted as %2^16 --> not allowing

NT PDC to Samba PDC migration
Hi all, I read a few posts a while back from people who were trying to get this done. Has anyone succeeded in doing a transparent (or an as-close-to-as-possible) migration of an NT4 PDC to a Samba PDC? I know it entails stuff like snatching the passwords with pwdump or the like, and importing them into smbpasswd/LDAP, and toying around with RID's/SID's for the new PDC to make it look

File size limit = 2G?
Hello All, I'm running Samba 2.2.7a on RedHat 8.0. Connecting to a Windows 2000 200GB share works OK, except for files > 2 GBytes. The linux box can see the large Windows files, but does not see their correct sizes -- it reports an absurdly big size when using ls -l. Files less that 2GB show up correctly. Trying to create a 3G file on the Windows box from the linux box, using:

Authoring a HOWTO
I am in the process of authoring a Samba-LDAP-PDC HOWTO for Mandrake users that will allow cross platform ( Linux / M$ ) network user authentication. Lastnight I ran rpm --rebuild --with ldap samba-2.2.7a-2mdk.src.rpm and it produced a list of packages that I needed to install in order to compile this version of samba. I did so but I neglected to write down the list. I did the install of

Samba PDC+LDAP on FreeBSD
Hello, I am trying to use Samba (2.2.7a)+ LDAP (2.0.25) as PDC on FreeBSD 4.7. But it turned out that LDAP is not easy-going!!! Without LDAP, things seems fine. I can join the Win2000 machine accounts and the shares are all right. However, when configurating samba with ldap support, then smbpasswd couldn't work anymore. I can only use # smbpasswd -w secretpassword to add the

which ACL attributes are supported by Samba?
I've tried to determine this empirically, but have run foul of config issues that won't be resolved in the immediate future. Basically, I know that Samba + ACL + an acl-aware filesystem will allow me to assign unix-style permissions to arbitrary groups of people for a given file. However, Windows has additional permissions: delete, take ownership, and, um, I think possibly one or two more.

trouble building nut for HID-USB
It does in fact show exactly what you describe. Udev is working properly with the device file being assigned to group dialout, which the nut user is in. You were correct about my having had to install the libusb-devel kit to make 2.7.4 build, but it does build properly and everything seems to be working well, except that the driver only sometimes loads. About 25% of the time I get this: >
