Hi I have installed samba 2.2.8 on a box running Fresco as a router and Web server. On my Win2000 box I can see the router but when I try to get in and access the shared files it asks for a password I don't know what it is I never set that up. What password does it come with by default?
I ran the command smbpasswd and get the following msg

95 and NT cannot access shares
I have file and print sharing set up on Linux (Mandrake 9.0).
It all works fine with 2000 and XP clients, but 95 and NT clients don't seem
to be able to access.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

Does 3MB/sec seem as fast as
John,
I haven't done any direct performance testing, although I am planning on
figuring that out now. (BTW, how is performance testing ran?) However, I
can say that since converting over to the Samba PDC/File Server that the
file transfer performance just feels much faster.

3 seconds login delay
Hello,
We recently switched from "security = user" to
"security = server". And are now using a NT4 server for
password authentication. This method gives less problems
with NT4/W2K Workstations and encrypted passwords.
When we where using "security = user" Samba authentication
was against the local Unix password files and login was fast
without any delay. After the

Locked files that stay open after a PC crash
Hi,
How should you deal, as an administrator/root, with
locked files that stay open after a PC crash and the
user can't access them any more.
For example:
The PC crashes and the user restart. MS-Outlook
complains that it can't open its outlook.pst file,
that is on a samba share, with the proper read/write
access and the user can't get any mail.
As root you do a smbstatus -u and you

AW: Allow copy and deny delete
Hi,
You can use the sticky bit on directories (like /tmp is setup), so you
can grant
write access for any user, but they can't remove files owned by
different uids.
But Users can remove there own files anyway.

newbie problem: can't mount win xp disk into linux (regkey is set)
Got two machines connected via a 10MBit Hub:
One Slackware Linux 8.1 with eth0 = Realtek8139 (working fine),
one WindowsXP Pro, same NIC, registry key for proper auth is set.
The Windows machine is called xerxes on which the C dir is shared, and there
is /mnt/xerxes/ on the Linux box.
The command:
# mount -t smbfs -o username=(username on win machine),password=(passwd on win
# machine)

Is there something missing?
Hello All,
I hope that you are all doing well. I have been trying to get Samba
setup and running on my Redhat 7.2 box so that users on Windows
machines can login and be connected to their directory.
The problem is that no matter what I try, I can see the Samba server
from the Windows machine, but it keeps telling me that the password
was not recognized and is the same linux password for each

I guess so do I ;-)
Using the new approach I posted to samba-list earlier today, it is not
really all that tricky any more. Watch for my reports on the list, you
may be able to implement what I've done

My Network Places not finding Samba server
I assume I am doing(or not) something extremely simple that is causing my
XP boxes to not see my linux(FC4) Samba server in the 'My Network Places'.
I can access the shares by 'Map Network Drive' and using the IP
address(192.168.0.1).
I have set the workgroup name 'DAMEN' in the lmhosts file.
192.168.0.1 DAMEN
I have set the workgroup in the smb.conf file.

script help - '3rd last field'
Hi
I need some logic to work out a value for me - this value is _always_
the 3rd last field in a string seperated by '.' but the string could be
5 or 6 fields long, e.g
foo.bar.VALUE.baz.lala
foor.bar.gigi.VALUE.baz.lala
I need to find VALUE - if this were python or something i could do it
but this has to be in shell -
Any clues?
thanks

infer haplotypes phasing trios tdthap
Dear R mailing list,
I have a dataset with genotypes from trios and I would like to infer
haplotypes for each mother, father and child. The package that I could
find that can do this is tdthap.
But when the mother is homozygous (e.g., 2/2) the haplotype is called as
not possible to infer (0); I would prefer for it to call the genotype
(2). From what I understand it is doing what I would like
