FoxPro's lock function over SAMBA file server
I have a very nasty problem on a small network using a linux 2.2.5-15 and Samba 2.0.3 (RH 6.0) server and two clients Win95 and Win98. I have to use a program of commercial administration made in clipper . On Novell servers this program works fine but on Samba server It does not allow that the two stations access the same file concurrently. The same problem is shown when in Fox Pro I am

[OT] Canada on Rails by ferry?
Hey y''all, Are any folks planning on taking the ferry from Seattle to Vancouver (via Victoria)? I''ve never done it before so I have no idea how much of an adventure it is. Flights are a $100+ less to Seattle than Vancouver so the price works out the same or a bit less. My plan is to fly to Seattle (from Savannah, GA) on Tuesday to catch the early ferry on Wednesday

Locking problems in 2.2.2
Hi, I am using a small network of, say, 10 W2K workstations on which I run a database application using shared table and index files on a Samba 2.2.2 server (Suse Linux 7.2). The application was just ported from Clipper to XBase++. The Clipper compiled app (it's a 16-bit DOS application) runs fine. The 32-bit XBase++ app produces corrupt index files and behaves eratically after several

Locking problem
Hi all! I am using Debian Sarge with Samba version 3.0.14a-Debian and experience a locking problem: the program is a linux port of a Clipper program compiled with xHarbour (www.xharbour.org). It uses byte-range-locking to lock a record of a dbf database. If I mount the server directory over an smbmount and start 2 clients on the server accessing the server directory over the smbmount, the

Returning to a previous view
Greetings, I have a login/logout form in a partial which I would like to have rendered on every page of my application. Currently the actions behind the partial all redirect to a single view, regardless of the view the partial was rendered on. Is there a convenient way to have the login action redirect to the view that the login was requested from? Peter.

samba 3.0.2 in production on file sever?
Hello! Do someone use Samba 3.0.2 in production on file server? When I tired to migrate our fileserver to 3.0 from 2.2.8a with only 200 (or 300, hmm, I don't remember ;-) ) users, with about a 40-50 users, which use old dos clipper based application, I had locking problems (someone can say that this was not locking problem, but I think so). Now I want to try migration to 3.0.2. But, may be

I am trying to put some DOS clients to access a samba server. I try to use the Microsoft Network Client 3.0 and the Microsoft Lan Manager. With them I can log into the samba server, and use the conection as normal. But when i use it with a high data transfer, somebody, the client or the samba server disconnect. Somebody have any experience with dos clients? Thank you in advance Maurizio Faccio

[PATCH] ./configure fails to recognize alphapca56 (R-1.1.0)
I think I reported this bug in the past. At that time, I was told that it is a bug of autoconf. ./configure does not recognize Linux on DEC Alpha 21164PC (a cheap version of Alpha EV56), so all the compilation flags were set incorrectly. I don't know the right way to fix it (I don't know how autoconf works yet ...), but the following patch fixes the problem. Thank you, Naoki Naoki

Wine : error during compilation (mandriva 2006 - x86_64)
Hi, I have Mandriva 2006 x86_64. I tried to install wine, but the binaries are for 32 bits and the result is very instable (win programs close suddenly, no internet available for those programs, etc...) So I tried to compile wine 0.9.14 from source, but I have an error during make when "searching for -lXext" : LD_LIBRARY_PATH="../../libs/unicode:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"

samba pdc with ldap backend setup problems
Greetings... I'm struggling trying to set up a samba 3.0.23c PDC with ldap backend. The server is Fedora 5, OpenLdap version 2.3.19-4. I've got it so smbd and nmbd start properly and I can use a windows box and see the domain using srvmgr.exe and usrmgr.exe. I'm then able to signon from a windows XP computer with the command net use \\pdcserver\ipc$ /user:root rootpassword Some

Pb with R.matlab
Hello, I have problems running the R.matlab package. I work with R 2.3.1, under windows (using the Rgui). It seems that, even after loading the package, the "simple" functions such as writeMat() or readMat() are not recognized. For example, the following script leads to an error: > install.packages("R.matlab") --- Please select a CRAN mirror for use in this session ---

here's a fix for Goldmine (and other ISAM database based programs) on Windows NT/2000/XP clients talking to samba
Goldmine seems to a compiled database application compiled in something likeClipper. Clipper applications record lock through ISAM like files (DBF). However, in Windows NT/2000/XP, Opportunistic locking is turned on by default in order to accelerate file transfer from file services. [Windows 95/98 did not Opportunisticly lock] However, opportunistic locking corrupts ISAM and ISAM like
